While there will be plenty of mismatches with the recruited players, still for Christmas, I'd like a speedy guard. But that's me being uncharacteristically selfish - but one thing i noticed is that a lot of the good tourney teams don't necessarily have exceptional guards, just good ones. Maybe trawick can do the trick. But back to Henry and the other recruits, all of these guys can do one thing: handle the rock pretty well for their size. And that's something GU has been lacking. If Vee and Clark can work extensively on their handles, then I'm cool with the recruiting focus....

No, unfortunately, it won't, because over the past couple of weeks we've learned: - JTIII can't recruit talent - JTIII can't develop talent - Georgetown doesn't get good athletes - Georgetown's system is too easy to recruit against and no good player wants to be limited by it We are destined to return to Esherickian mediocrity and doomed to mid-major status. Is that being said or is it being said that this is what is PERCEIVED by recruits and you have to change if you want to keep getting players--which it's pretty obvious is taking place this year--look at size of the players and more athleticism is obviously being addressed and needs to be. Now whether you want to believe what many people who do talk to people involved in the sport are hearing--then you have every right. Just remember--same things were being mentioned by people the past 3 years and how did things workout? Coaches can coach--but it's always about the material they have to work with that makes them look better. You look at III's initial roster and the last 3 years and go watch the games in past and then watch this year. If you don't see a major difference--then we agree to disagree.

I agree. Def. see a difference between the Green/Hibbert years vs. Wright/Freeman/Monroe years. If you think about it, Last year was this year's team with a better post man. But there was no added beef such as Nate. And we know there was little depth.

blog.northstarbball.com/2011/03/26/leaders-emerge-for-jarion-henry--dominique-mckoy.aspxNorthStarBball: Jarion Henry, a 6'8 small forward, is not in the NBE Post-Summer Class of 2011 Top 150, but there is a strong chance he will break into the rankings on the final list. A versatile athlete out of Kimball (TX), Henry is another one of the best uncommitted seniors. Georgetown, New Mexico, Oregon, Marquette, and USC comprise Henry's college list at this point. "That's like the ones I'm interested in," he said. Other schools have made an attempt to get involved with the Lone Star State standout, but he has opted to just go with that group of five. "Texas Tech called the other day, since they got the new coach," Henry said. "There were a lot more, [but I] told my coach, 'No.' [Schools like] Baylor, UT [Texas]." Henry, who said "probably April" when asked when he plans to commit, has a pair of schools that are standing out to him the most. "Right now it's Georgetown and New Mexico," Henry said of his leaders. While he has not taken any college visits yet, that may well be changing soon. "No, next week I'm gonna be setting up some visits," Henry said. "Probably Georgetown and New Mexico." You can watch McKoy and Henry as well as 16 others in the Jack Jones Shootout on Sunday at 1:30pm. The game will be shown by High School Sports Network, and I will be doing play-by-play for the broadcast. Other standouts in the game include top 50 prospects BJ Young, Nick Johnson, Rashad "Ky" Madden, and Hunter Mickelson.

If we're still pushing hard for Otto, it's no surprise that we would be pushing hard for this kid, too. And I have a hunch our chances are better with Henry than with Otto, so let's hope for the best.

I think Otto will end up at Kansas. I don't base this upon any particular knowledge, it's just that Kansas has a great program and it's not too far from his home. I figured he was going to Missouri until Anderson left. Maybe I'm just a pessimist in this case.

Sorry, did not realize you had to have a log-in id. Here is an excerpt:
Texas high school standout Jarion Henry says he is planning an official recruiting visit to New Mexico next week and is strongly considering signing with the Lobo men’s basketball program this spring.
“I’m very impressed by New Mexico, and I’m looking forward to the trip,” the 6-foot-8 Henry told the Journal on Tuesday. “I hope to come out there next Friday (April 8).”
The status of UNM's Emmanuel Negedu (left, shown with teammate Demetrius Walker earlier this season) is up in the air for 2011-12. Henry (first name is pronounced Jerry-on) says the only other official visit he has scheduled is at Georgetown the following week, and “right now it’s between those two schools. But I’m definitely planning to sign this spring.”

Not sure if this was posed but I just bumped into this article on Rivals for a week back that ranks the best remaining unsigned recruits for 2011. Interesting to see that they have Henry ahead of Porter. Here are some excerpts.
5. Jarion Henry School: Dallas (Texas) Kimball The Buzz: As a senior, the 6-foot-8 forward who ranks No. 84 overall in the class of 2011 helped lead Kimball to a state title. A slender athlete with quickness and versatility, his recruitment seems to be up in the air. He's yet to set up any visits and has a constantly changing list but USC, New Mexico, UTEP, Georgetown, Oregon and others have been involved at one level or another this winter.
6. Otto Porter School: Sikeston (Mo.) Scott County Central The Buzz: The skilled 6-foot-8 forward is a sure bet to make a huge climb up the rankings from his current spot of 97 when things get adjusted. Over the weekend he won his third straight state title and became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Missouri Final Four. At the moment, he figures to be a very heavy lean to Missouri but Georgetown has been putting in work and he's recently added Kansas to his final list of schools

New Mexico has a real logjam with its scholarships right now and may have only one available for next year. They already have two commitments, possibly a third, depending upon whether this 7'2" player reclassifies to 2012. Sounds like Henry is really down to just the Lobos and Hoyas, although some mention on sports talk in San Diego that SDSU may try to get in now. Henry was originally from here in Southern California.

well seeing as we have 0 scholarships available at least officially it seems like that shouldn't hurt them too much.

Descriptions of Henry's game sound similar to some of the SDSU guys...White and Leonard come to mind, in particular. Would love to have somebody with the athleticism of guys like that.
