Great, Great, GREAT WIN! Today was just about being tough--and finding a way to win the tough game is so important--Chris Wright was outstanding today--just carried the team in 1st Half along with Nate---and then Austin/Chris/Hank/Hollis did the damage in 2nd!
Love the show of team sacrifice from players--and Jason Clark/Hollis are who I'm looking at in that regard. Jason has sacrificed some offense for defensive performance that is needed and his deflections/hustle plays late along with clutch FT shooting were just as important to winning as anything---although please listen to teammates/coaches when the shot clock is running down (although it's a complete joke that Bubba Sparxxx is allowed to participate in the game and Hoyas needed to inbound ball due to him getting a "warning" 38 min into the game). Hollis on the glass--cannot say enough--great job!
Back to Chris--he carried the team offensively in 1st Half and did a nice job of altering his game to fit what was needed in 2nd. His defense/hustle were also great and to keep the streak alive-he got screwed on a terrible charge call in a John Cahill game--what a shocker.
This is a game this team wouldn't have won the past 2 years--and it's important to start winning these type of games not just for now-but so the young guys on team see how you keep getting after it--especially when things aren't going well early and shots aren't falling.

hollis completely changed the game with his hustle and insane rebounding display in the second half. offensively, i thought we stunk (other than chris) the entire game. the difference was we decided to actually defend and rebound the second half. like RDF said, this is a game we lose the last couple years. this team showed me something.
clark has to stop relying so much on the 3. half his shots are 3's. he's making it easy for defenders by being so one dimensional. put it on the floor and go to the basket. he's either going to score or get fouled most of the time.

Great game yesterday.
loved the student section getting all over williams about being on the floor
loved the student getting all over 1 fan dressed in a yellow shirt in the lower section
loved the marquette couple sitting near us that had to leave because they were so frustrated with the way their own team was playing
loved seeing most marquette fans in the upper deck
loved hearing some marquette fan tell me in the bathroom that gtown was cheating because we stuffed all marquette fans in the upperdeck
the crowd was great
great to see freeman come back
great tape job by the trainer
all in all a great time
GO HOYAS!

Agree with RDF, it was the defense that won this game. In fact it is the real reason for the 8 game streak. Both Beoheim and Buz talked about not being able to score as usual. That was because of the great help defense by the Hoyas. They kept Siva out of the lane and held him to under 10 pts in Lousville game. They kept Fisher and Waymans out of the lane in Nova game and kept Stokes from going off from 3pt land. Yesterday for the most part they kept Marquette from scoring inside in 2nd half. On another note can someone explain the "out of the box" game stoppage by the ref. It was not so much the stoppage, but the failure to reset the shot clock. There were only 20 seconds left when he stopped play. That penalized the offense for the opposing coaches mistake, especially an offense like the Hoyas.

If you dig back in the annals, there were discussions on this board five years ago about whether we could sustain putting students under both baskets (it used to be YAs under one). That and a desire to make GU less a great travel destination for opposing fans.
It is enjoyable that there's finally a home court advantage for GU.

It is pretty nice that we've reached the point that we can expect the lower bowl to be mostly Hoya fans. But it's also strange that opposing fans (especially from places like Marquette and Cuse) seem to think it's their divine right to get seats wherever they'd like on the road, when they would never put up with that at home.

I hope that the reason Nate didn't get minutes in the second half was not attirbuted to hitting his head on the backboard after his monster slam and pull up on the rim. Looked like it must have hurt.

My guess would be that it had more to do with Hollis's freak show on the boards!

I think that once Gardner fouled out, JTIII wanted Hollis's quickness to defend against Marquette's quickness. Worked out pretty well - the guy may know how to coach a little bit!

Kudos to the the team for winning a game with defense.
Oh, and Marquette fans are continuing their tradition of being the whiniest bunch in the Big East.

You know, Marquette fans give Syracuse fans a run for their money. Not their coach, but their fans.
And yes, you are correct.

Did any notice that on 4 occasions when Marquette fouled us away from the ball, the Hoya shooter took a 3 point shot and on every instance, the ball went in. Was I the only one who noticed that? ?

Yeah Nate swished a 3, then clanked one a few minutes later when it counted. Maybe we need to work on hearing internal whistles before we shoot, take the pressure off.

My guess would be that it had more to do with Hollis's freak show on the boards! He was a man amongst boys in the second half. Even when he didn't get the ball, he was in perfect position. As for the game itself, they need to take note of specifically whatever they did at halftime, and do it everytime. It was almost like an attitude of focus on the team when they came out from the locker room. Also, was it just me or did the color commentator -- Clark Kellogg, I think -- seem to favor Marquette on all the close calls. It wasn't just that no call on the collision about the 3 minute mark or so ... and maybe I'm making too much of it, but for whatever reason, it seamed like his comments were that of a Marquette sympathiser.

Len Elmore. I usually like him, but yesterday I noticed a lot of what you mention above.

Announcers were off. They had a bad game.

Announcers were off. They had a bad game. Patrick shows up--Hoyas usually stink--and he seems to take great joy in seeing that. Elmore-was once a very good announcer--wonder what happened because he's had wood against Hoyas for a while now--maybe it was that beatdown of Terps in Orlando 2 seasons ago--but he's been a real clown since then and his announcing (not knowing who was on court--said Hoyas ignored Julian and he wasn't even in game, etc...just stupid mistakes) was horrific.

According to the Marquette post game quotes The reason for the tech was that DJO said count it Expletive deleted! This after the refs specifically warned the teams in the captain's circle that they would not tolerate such language. Perfectly justified once you know the context.
