absolutely, one of the better wins of the year.
I thought this was going to be one our letdown games, but they turned it up a notch. Really proved something today, IMO.

He hit it, but not in a celebratory slap sort of way. I actually thought he was making room for himself coming down.

Just got back from the Booth. Player of the game for me today split between Chris and Hollis. Chris carried us offensively, which is a decision he had to make because it wasn't falling consistently for anyone else. Just another sign of leadership from CW, who has done whatever is has taken for this team to win during this stretch. It seemed like Hollis grabbed every defensive rebound that was available in the 2nd half. He was just a flat out monster on the boards, and that had just as much to do with us winning a game as his shooting has in other recent games. Overall, I was really impressed with our guys' attention to defense in the second half after a poor shooting 1st half (especially from the perimeter). Butler and Crowder in particular were really frustrated with the defense being played against them.
We gave props to Julian for playing hurt the last few games AND being able to contribute; the same props need to go to Austin for gutting out the second half today when it was apparent he was nowhere near 100%. That is what a senior leader does, and it my eyes that puts him on another level.
We used to talk a lot about Good Brandon/Bad Brandon. How about Good Henry/Bad Henry? When he was bad today, he was really bad. When he was good today, he was stellar. Luckily, he was more good than bad down the stretch when we really needed it.
Cahill, as expected, was pretty bad today, and the other two guys weren't great either. Particularly ridiculous was the "charge" at halfcourt on CW and JV's 4th foul. For our guys to battle through an uneven game today as well as Hess at the Dome this week, that is a monumental achievement.
Special thanks to the fat- Marquette fan in 5th or 6th row of 119 who egged on the original side student section and 118 during the lengthy timeout (where Cahill decided he wanted an in-game vacation). That student section was virtually non-existent in the early going, and that one guy shooting his mouth off and challenging our entire student section actually got our students involved in the game. Big time turning point, and hopefully that guy realizes next time he should let sleeping dogs lie.
Fingers crossed that Austin heals up quick.

Nate will get called for a technical very soon if he doesn't cut that crap out. So unnecessary and foolish. He had some very nice plays today and actually turned in one of his better efforts, but he really struggles to rebound in the Big East. A lot of hard strength, agility, and quick jump work needs to be done in the off-season. The swatting and tipping basically gets him nothing.
Hollis was terrific today. He's been on a roll ever since he was placed into the 6th man role.
Wright was huge in the first half especially just keeping us in the game. Controlled the tempo and only made 2-3 bonehead plays (of course one of them was nearly unforgivable when he threw a very bad pass against the press).
Freeman with some clutch shots, but clearly off today even before the ankle sprain. A warrior to come back and play with so much passion. He was running point for large stretches of the second half.
Julian battled today with mixed success, but definitely a warrior out there and a huge jump hook late.
Henry bad first half and then really came through for us in the second half with some great buckets, passing, and defense/rebounding. One or two bad passes to cutters in the lane, but otherwise was big for us in the second half.
JC - what's going on there? I can't figure it out. He probably passed up 3-4 three-pointers that he would take if he feels confident. Maybe he shot it poorly in warmups and didn't feel he was on today. Dribbling out the shot clock was nearly unforgivable.
Markel - maybe it's time to shelve the 23 foot three-point attempts. Otherwise showing a decent handle out there.
Benimon caused me to nearly break my television three times today.
This was a great victory and takes the pressure off our visit to UConn.
Love that we are in 3rd place heading into the home stretch.

Jason seems to be rushing his shot, not getting set. He is not a guy to shoot on the move from more than 5-6 feet. He'll get it right, and that will just make us stronger!

Definitely agree that this was a typical 2nd round game we would see in the tourney. Good to see our defense and boards winning more games.

He hit it, but not in a celebratory slap sort of way. I actually thought he was making room for himself coming down. Umm... watch the replay if you get a chance. He emphatically slapped the backboard while giving out his trademark THUNDERSNOW yell. Some ref WILL call this on him... I almost hope he gets called on it before the Big East Tourney because it doesn't appear that the coaching staff has addressed it (or if they have, the message has not gotten through). That being said, I really liked Lubick's first half today. He had so much energy out there and had some great hustle rebounds.

My 2c game analysis:
- Crowd was ridiculously late arriving. I can't imagine, especially after the dramatic wins we've had recently.
- In the first half, we were beaten by repeated 'quette offensive rebounds and by what seemed a ridiculous number of FT opportunities for them.
- Chris kept us in the game with heart. I am so going to miss him next year.
- I died a thousand deaths watching Austin crumble to the floor and struggle just to get up and limp off. Annoyingly, the guy who does all the commercial promotions was doing one, loudly and obnoxiously as always, as Austin lay writhing.
- Vee came in for his usual 1:30 or so at the end of the first half, never to be seen again. The logic of that remains a mystery to me.
- In the second half, I thought some of the iffy ref calls that went their way in the first went ours. Finally.
- Agree with everyone that Hollis was huge today. There was a bit where we had my favorite lineup - Austin, Chris, Hollis, Nate, Julian - but JV soon picked up his fourth and that was the end of that.
- Henry played really scrappy during that stretch after JV had to sit for a long time.
- Austin definitely wasn't himself in the second half but still made big contributions, including bringing the ball up (as someone else noted) at times.
- Our inbounding leaves something to be desired.
- Jason remains money at the line late.
- I've never seen a team run so many players in and out so quickly and as much as Marquette does. Even UNC doesn't do it that much.
- Game ball to Chris, with a nod to Hollis.

The replay at the Verizon Center clearly showed that he hit the backboard with his head - more specifically - his face. Aside from any T's what about knocking himself out? ? Anyone venture an idea why he didn't play about the last 15 minutes?

It's time to end this ridiculousness about not showing replays at games. Someone will probably tell me the legitimate reason and that it's out of our control, which it may be, but the the whole idea is just laughable to me. I still have no idea why Johnson-Odom was tee'ed up. Are riots going to ensue if replays are shown?

Anyone venture an idea why he didn't play about the last 15 minutes? I thought it was just because of the lineups Marquette was throwing out there. When Gardner was in foul trouble 'quette went a little smaller so it made more sense to have HT in there over Lubick. Given HT's performance on defense and on the boards, I don't think we lost any size/hustle with Lubick out.

He made some sort of "3" gesture, but unless he also said something, it didn't seem particularly T-worthy.

Best effort I have seen from Henry. If he can give julian that kind of support, this team can go a long way. Fine leadership from 1-5 and chris as well

A post over on the Marquette Scout board says that Willliams said that the ref told him J-O said "count it" as he made the sign; I have to think there were prior gestures/talking by the kid before and this was the last straw for the ref. If not, seems a little harsh.

We are getting it done in the endgame time after time - exactly what you need at tourney time. Have to have confidence and not panic, we are showing those traits over and over again.

A fortunate break that went our way. My feelings on Nate slapping the backboard: I like the aggression, throw it down, young man! Until he gets T'd up for it, which some of you think is inevitable but I'm not so sure, I will continue to like it. ;D

Thanks. Yeah, it didnt seem like much happened, but I thought we got hosed on some calls, too. I've never seen refs call BE games as tightly as they have this year. Maybe that's for the best because we are going to have to get used to that in the tourney.
I see Nate's play both ways. The obvious reaction is that he's slapping the board, but to be honest, he goes so hard at the rim, I almost think he is just pushing himself back from nailing his head into the backboard. I dont see it as that much different from hanging on the rim. A lot of time hanging on the rim is just to stop your self from flying off.

Normally I don't mind Len Elmore, but working next to the insufferable Mike Patrick seems to bring out his worst qualities. I totally agree with this. Usually I prefer Elmore to any of the other BE regulars save maybe Rafferty. But today its like he's watching a different game than the rest of us. Maybe he's done too many ACC games lately or something? I think that's why Patrick is calling for ticky-tack fouls all over the floor. Mike Patrick is by far the worst PBP announcer working for Disney/ESPN. I hope that someday soon he will hug an intern in an inappropriate manner, or perhaps use profanity when speaking to a co-worker. The Hoyas, on the other hand, certainly showed that they are not "soft under Thompson," playing big and tough this afternoon. I love it when Georgetown wins ugly, grinding Big East games. Coming from behind only made the victory sweeter. BEAT UCONN.
