From The Juice
I’ve never seen a Big East game called that closely, and it greatly benefited the Hoyas. Rick Jackson was called for three offensive fouls, two on charges. Credit Nate Lubick and Julian Vaughn for some fine acting in the post, flailing to the floor when Jackson bumped them with his shoulder on the block. Is this what this rivalry has come to? Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning must be shaking their heads at the Hoya “big” men.
“I didn’t really think the refs would go along with that strategy,” said Jackson following the game. “It hasn’t really worked all this year. And a rivalry like this – Georgetown, Syracuse – you don’t think that it would work. You’d think the refs would let you play. They blew the whistle a lot. And I mean what can you do? There’s nothing you can do.”

If Jackson had anything beyond one offensive move, it would have been no issue. The stunning thing is that he's been able to get away with the one clear-out move all season.

Well I'll whine right back at them:
THE PAINT AREA AT THE CARRIER DOME SHOULD PROBABLY JUST BE A PARKING LOT CONSIDERING HOW MUCH TIME RICK JACKSON SPENT THERE ALL GAME.

Wasn't it the case that neither team made it to the bonus in the first half? The refs had a couple bad calls (the two reach-ins against Syracuse weren't exactly shining moments in refdom), but they were hardly calling this one tight. Maybe he should ditch his fullback shoulders and learn the smooth baby hook from our boy JV.

If my recollection is correct, fouls were 8 for GU and 5 for Cuse at half. Saunders made the comment that neither team made the bonus in the 1st half, but I think he was wrong.
In any case, if they are whining about calls in a game where they had 5 fouls in the first half (and 2 in the first 11 minutes of the game) and got virtually every single 50:50 call on balls knocked out of bounds on the baseline, they are completely delusional.

We got our fair share of weak charge calls called against us too (Freeman and Clark on perimeter)

First, you have to remember that Whining 101 and 201, tauight by Professor Boeheim, are required core courses for all Orangeboy players in order to remain eligible. Second, Saunders was in fact wrong, we did have 8 fouls; in fact I thought jerrelle's best play last night was fouling jackson when he got the ball in position down low, sending him to the line where he promptly missed the first shot of a one-and-one. And since jackson has absolutely no offensive game outside of 2 feet, he desperately needs that shoulder slam to try to get off a shot.

It also comes straight from their fans. I love the guy over on their Scout board who claims we "cheated' and that JTIII used "dirty, filthy" tactics by having our guys "flop" to get jackson out of the game, they would have won easily with him, they are the better team, blah blah blah. And they wonder why other fans detest them so much! That being said, there are a number of posters over therre who are honest and fair in their evaluations - and usually get slammed by others for it!

Jackson has solid touch but no moves. Frischilla was right when he said as a player, you have to develop a countermove. For all the crap we gave the team about not shading on players strong sides in that SHU game, they definitely had it down with Jackson.
Whatever, let them whine. If they actually think that was the difference in the game, that's their own problem. Their juggernaut wasn't exactly lighting us up before he got his 4th anyways.

Jackson's an idiot he did the same exact thing twice. What did you really think the refs wouldn't call it a second time. Lubick's was a bit of a flop, but we had Jackson scouted perfectly and knew exactly what he was going to do and stepped in and took the charge. Did lubick sell it? Yes, but so what it's called playing smart. It worked. Play smarter cuse.

The 4th foul on Jackson was bogus - he and Hollis were a little tangled but not even involved in the play. However, the bigger issue is that Jackson played 31 minutes and never fouled out of the game and shot 1-6 when he played!! So what is there to complain about? Max he plays another 5 minutes and shoots 2-9?And if he doesn't know how to play with a little bit of foul trouble, that is his problem. Even if you disagree with some of the calls against him, he and Boeheim are solely to blame for him not being as big a contributor as they would have liked. Had he fouled out of the game or played less than 31 minutes, then maybe you can debate whether the refs had an impact. But I'd love for them both to keep whining, because it will only cause the refs to hate him more and more calls will go against him in the future.

Yeah, the officiating was pretty equal both ways --- there were good calls and bad calls on both ends in equal measure (and nothing as atrocious as that call at the end of Rutgers-Villanova), not one sided in favor of the Hoyas. Chris got called for at least one completely phantom foul when an SU guard was driving the lane late in the game, e.g., and the charging calls were called equally; SU just didn't pick up on how the refs were going to call the game and so they committed more!
I disagree that our guys flopped. There's a big difference between establishing position and taking a charge from a shoulder shove than sliding under a driving guard or someone who's already airborne, especially once you learn how the refs will call the game.

Didn't Julian pick up his 4th foul with about 9 min to go? That's just a few minutes after Jackson got his 4th...

Just nate went down a little easy with the contact. but it's still a legit move.

I thought the game was called a little tight as well, but those charges on Jackson were legit. Agree with DHall - the 4th foul on Jackson was garbage. But the fact remains that Jackson has one move in the post and has never diversified his game. He could certainly step to the right and drop back to the left with a short hook shot and would probably be successful.
One aspect of Vaughn's game which is easy to appreciate is his ability to go left or right which makes him an effective post player.
