WVU has a great RPI profile, and wins over Purdue and others on their side. I think they'll pick off a couple of the home games and finish 9-9, making the tournament as a 7 or 8 seed. That's how bad the tourney field is this year. Probably true -- the win on the road against GU should help some. But both WVU and Marquette look like they are running out of gas. I'd give WVU the edge down the stretch because they have a better home floor and Huggins will squeeze something out of them. Not sure what to say about Marquette after last night.

Marquette is out at this point. I dont see any credible argument for them. They will have to beat UConn on the road or go deep in the BET. I am not sure they are even going to beat Seton Hall 1 of 2 times. Although, I will say it would be fun to see a game a BE team play on the first 4 Tuesday - like Marquette-Michigan State. Dead on , Marquette is out as of now. This brings us to 10 teams, but as ive been saying i think its going to settle at 9 big east schools dancing. Cincinatti as of now is in reality an NIT caliber team. These next 2 weeks are going to be so interesting. Anyways and most importly lets hope for a big win tonight from the hoyas!

I think Marquette still has a shot (even as of right now) simply because if you go around looking at all the bubble teams, you'd still be hard pressed to find one that has 3 RPI top-50 wins and no bad losses. Not to say they are deserving of an NCAA berth with the way they've played as of late, but you can't really say that from a resume-standpoint they're definitively below a lot of the teams that they're in contention with for the last few spots.
Cinci, on the other hand, is in big trouble.

15-11 and ranked in 60s RPI-wise? Why should they get any consideration? Obviously, I am on in island in this thread (except maybe for lurker), but I think people are way overrating the Big East. If you play 13 games against good teams and you win 2 of them, both at home, why should I think you are tourney worthy? I always hated that the lower-tier ACC teams made the tourney, and I dont see the BE this year as any different. It would suck if Utah St loses their tourney and doesnt get in because Marquette went 2-11 against good teams...

To be fair to Marquette, they'd have exactly two more wins against good teams and two fewer bad losses than Utah St in that scenario.

So does Maryland. So does Seton Hall. You should have to win your games to make the tournament. Just MO.

I think Marquette is now squarely on the wrong side of the bubble. They end Seton Hall/@uconn/Provvy/Cincy/@seton Hall. 4-1 gets them to 10 conference wins and probably gets them in unless they lose on Day 1 of the BET. But I'd say they have their work cut out for them.
Can't say I'd shed a tear if a 10-8 Big East team got in over a team like Utah State. Shed the sentimentality. Just look at the games against us - Utah State didn't look like they belonged on the same floor as the Hoyas. Marquette took us down to the last few possessions.

I have a feeling that the committee is going to be very wary of the perception that the extra teams are solely intended to give the power conferences more teams, although the relative weakness of some of the better mid-majors this year may still result in mediocre major conference teams getting the spots.

Fair points by both of you guys, but it's just my opinion on the tourney. I would rather not see 11 BE teams in there. Put it this way, we better not get hosed by matchups and region because the committee has to accommodate our dregs

I think we can all agree that the BE has 9 locks now. SJU's definitely in after today even if they lose out, and I think WVU's numbers (RPI: 19, SOS: 4, 6-6 vs. the RPI Top 50) gets them in even if they lose out and finish 8-10 in the BE.

I was looking at MU's profile just the other day. They've played the compettion, they just don't get the wins. The only way they can complicate things is to finish 10-8. At 9-9, I think they don't show enough to help themselves considering that would mean a loss to UConn and Prov/Cincy/SHU and 5-5 in the last 10 heading into BET. Sure, they have 3 decent wins, but hell every team in the BE is going to have at least 1-2 solid wins a year.
Cincy is probably going to be out too, IMO. Knock on wood, but between us and UConn, they should end up 9-9 as well with only 3 wins. Cincy, at least has a chance here though. Theoretically, they can go 3-1 with 2 huge wins in there to finish 11-7. They do that, they're in.
WVU is interesting. They could easily finish 8-10, but let's assume 9-9. That'd be 4-6 heading into the BET with only 3 real wins. I'm figuring they go 2-2 down the stretch here though.
If the discussion is really between these 3 teams, WVU certainly looks the strongest as of now. At least one of these teams will be a .500 or below team. We're looking at 10 max, and I'm gonna stick with 9 unless Cincy does something crazy.

Rich - what kind of a low-class, fleabag of a resort are you in that they would allow Syracuse fans there? lol Hope they didn't ruin your stay - just let them know you will be thinking of them when we sweep their boys Saturday.

The only NCAA bid that really matters is ours, and I'm just so happy that we are at 21 overall wins, 10 conference wins, #5 RPI, and #3 SOS. We are IN, no matter what happens, and it's so nice that we are just playing to preserve/improve seeding. No bubble talk around here. Coming from 1-4 in conference, that simply is an amazing turn around. Well done, boys!
