The Fans were pathetic tonight. Flat from the start. The players feed off the crowd. The booing has to stop. I'm sorry if you have been a fan of the redskins the last decade and got accustomed to booing your team, but this is not a professional team. Shut your mouth if you have nothing positive to say. How can you possibly place ANY blame on the fans? A sellout crowd, on ESPN primetime, and we come out and lay a turd. The effort was pathetic.

It's one thing if the team isn't trying, is quitting on themselves, then I don't think booing is unwarranted when they ask you to pay a pretty price to watch them play. But when they are putting in the effort but just aren't producing, yeah, the booing is neither appropriate nor productive. You can always vent here instead!

The sad truth is that Pitt is a much better team than the Hoyas at this point in the season. More athletic, more disciplined, much better defenisively.

I wasn't there and maybe you were, but the crowd was chanting "Hoya Saxa", etc... when we were down by 15... so it wasn't all booing. I understand the booing when the fans continue to see half-ass effort on defense and a lack of composure on the offensive end game after game after game. What are they suppossed to do? Pity clap? We've hit rock-bottom, I think. Something has to change. They were booed off the court at the end of the half. It was pathetic. Was I Editeded that Vee blew a defensive assignment, sure, but I am still there to support the *players*.

This was very predictable. We really had no shot to beat Pitt tonight unless we did a complete 180 from the way we've played since conference season began. Totally s ucks, but if this proves to be the low point of the season (and i predict it will be) then the recovery starts tomorrow. Let's not lose faith yet.

Three or four students attempted to start a "Fire Thompson" chant. They were quickly informed that such behavior was unhelpful and could lead to an instance of vigilante fan justice. They decided to stop and drink more beer instead.

My only complaint about the fans tonight was the fact that the students started leaving with 12 minutes to go and the student sections were only 1/3 full by the end of the game.
I don't care how poorly we played; that was pure disrespect for their classmates. And it was the first day of school - its not like anyone had anything important to rush back to campus for

Scattered, well-deserved boos, i might add.

Yes, that's tough. Fans are frustrated as much as the players.

Don't have the advanced stats, but in my opinion:
1) Our rebounding was great and the team should be praised for doing great work on the boards all game.
2) There were a few lapses in defense especially towards the end of the first half, but overall I thought we played good defense. Pitt was hitting a lot of contested shots. In the second half they hit a little less of their contested shots and that helped.
3) i'm sure it's been harped on but we hit our free throws in the first half and don't dig ourselves such a hole. We would've had a good shot to win this game.
4) I was very encouraged by our second half come back. we basically had it down to 12 down the stretch but for several reasons weren't able to come all the way back.
5) The refs. I don't think they cost us the game in any manner. They weren't good, but they went in our favor more than pitt. It was just frustrating how inconsistent they were. The refs helped us by calling the game fairly tight, it's just if you're going to call it tight, call it tight. Don't call it tight in spurts and the loose in spurts then tight again.
6) Hopefully we've seen now that pressing the entire game is what's best for this team. And we do it for the whole game against teams that try and slow the game down against us. I'm not convinced it's the best plan against all teams, but it will be and would've been the best bet against teams like st. johns, ND, Pitt, and WV.
7) The Students were awful. They were there in great numbers and were there early that was great. But they had no clue what they were doing. Cheerleaders on the band said had no clue what they were doing. Cheers need to be started immediately. Then students started leaving half way through the second half. Disgraceful. They got loud during our comeback and that was good the alumni sections did a very good job. We kept pitt in the 400s for the most part, so that was great. They only got loud at a couple points despite being up all game. Students have to be better. I shouldn't have to be starting cheers from the young alumni section when the students are in session.
8) I'm encouraged going forward. Schedule gets easier now. We have a very good chance to be 4-4 going into the Nova game.

I don't care how poorly we played; that was pure disrespect for their classmates. And it was the first day of school - its not like anyone had anything important to rush back to campus for Lizzie, I would have stayed til the end, but I cannot blame those students who feel like their classmates are not putting in the effort on defense, are showing ugly body language, etc... and decide that they can also take their effort somewhere else.

See, I disagree. As a student, I stayed every minute of every game. You are there to support your classmates, and when they are playing poorly they need their your support more than ever. During a game like today, I expect every other fan to leave early. But students are held to a higher standard in this regard.

"Pitt took advantage of Georgetown's interior defense to score all seven of its baskets in the paint during the first 8 minutes of the second half. The Hoyas made only four of 14 free throws in the first half -- generating boos from the faithful -- and 14 of 25 for the game." scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=310120046When the national media picks it up and comments about it, then you know it was bad.

The free throws could have made it closer, but Pitt did anything they wanted against us until they started to lose interest with a big lead.

The crowd was great during the competitive portion of the game. Unfortunately, that ended shortly after 5-5.

Agreed. This game was over midway through the first half. Not much else we could have done to dig out of that whole. Free throws would help, but don't get you there. The field goal percentage has to improve if we want to at least keep things close going forward, because any team can score at will on this defense.

Seriously - the way this team plays defense, any deficit of 10 points or greater is just about insurmountable. I can count the number of actual "stops" this Hoya team has forced this entire season on one hand - against quality opponents, the only time the other team hasn't scored was (for the great majority of the time) when they missed an open shot. We don't really even play defense at all - we just hope the other team misses.
