I know we're not knocking down shots, but it's clear that other Big East coaches have us and our offense pretty well scouted at this point. Seems like they see our sets coming a mile away.
Plus, if you notice, when the other team is on offense they are running the shot clock down and looking to break us down with 10 seconds or less and shorten the game --- ND, SJU, and WV all did this. Pitt also happens to excel at this.
Bottom line is we really need to make some adjustments to keep other teams off balance a bit more.

This looks like a very depressing game right now. So of course I expect we will play out of our minds and come away with the upset. Then lose our next 2 to Rutgers and Seton Hall. The Pepto-Bismol Hoyas.

Gilbert Brown will look like Michael Jordan--that guy kills Hoyas each time out.

My gut feeling is that we will look like a NBA finasl team for this one and go back to an A-10 for the next one.

Bad team to play right now. Not only are they physical inside, they have smart guard play and will shred our token press. The best hope we have for this game is if it becomes a track meet where we are on fire from the field. That's not to say that isnt a possibility. Games like this have definitely happened for us, especially at home against good teams. Villanova, Duke, for example. If can get this one, and then use yesterday's defense against RUT, SHU, SJU, I think we are going to be okay.

Listen we are a wounded animal right now and were going to react in one of two ways either: 1. were going to come out and attack and win this game
2. Were going to cower, bleed out and die.
I want to go on record and think were going to play a solid, crisp game. Now the only down side is we can play our B+ game and still lose. I know how badly we played and dissapointing the seniors have been But I think we are going to win this game. Just my two cents...

In order to win (which I feel we definitely can) we need to come up with a few wrinkles which the other team has not seen and had not practiced for.

OK.
Confession time at Dahlgren.
I was heart-broken, and Editeded off, and screamin' for III's head, and excoriating II for the way he walked out years ago and left us with a CE-led mess, and even verbally spoil-bratted the Seniors (how dare they, the ingrates), and wished I'd matriculated at (and given $ to) DeVry Air Conditioning Institute, and.....you get the picture.
Take it all back.
The Prodigal son just threw in the Blue and Gray towel...publically for all to bear witness...shameful plus tail between legs...chastened and repentant...and heaven-knows, after WVA...realize those damn Hoyas need us more than ever.
Why so?
"Cause I’m inexorably know-much-better-than-to-be addicted to these kids--right down to the walk-ons--and Jesuit St. Ignatius has taken note of a campus-wide dismay…and Hell, dear Ignatius, this is the Queen of the Ignatian way… and its only decent to promise that you'll try (best efforts) to get us back on track. Saul became Paul when that bolt from the sky knocked him off on his ass...and (voila) thusly changed an arrogant bastard to a fresh-born bloke reincarnated for and dedicated to greater aspirations. Of course, good old Ignatius is not God's Vegas-based handicapper…at least not yet…so, realistically, it's a bit down-list the on the favors-asked-for petitioner's (read PITT) prayer incantations.
Gotta' tear-your-heart-out for those eight-ball , impenetrable Hoyas...cry with the bald, thick-about-the-middle guy who voluntarily left Einstein's campus and tutoring kids in penny loafers and "let them eat cake" intellectual attitudes while they spent extracurricular time in the tree-shadowed library with some mathematical muse of second order differential equations explicatory of split atoms and back door cuts.
Dictum: Let's try the improbable. Split the atom with the Princeton offense.
Go Hoyas...I'm prodigal-son chastened and renewed in the spirit of Ignatius (and Iggie's cold shooting streak).
If all that means "wait'll next year"...just point me to where the queue quietly takes shape in anticipation.
Things ain't pretty.
But it's home.

I know we're not knocking down shots, but it's clear that other Big East coaches have us and our offense pretty well scouted at this point. Seems like they see our sets coming a mile away. You're probably right about this, but what about the other side of the coin? Shouldn't we know our opponents' offensive and defensive gameplans inside and out by now too? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Irish want to get Abromaitis going offensively and that WVU is looking to get Casey Mitchell shots. This is an indictment of both the players and the coaching staff for not recognizing the one or two guys on the other side who we don't want to let beat us. We're going to need to do a much better job in terms of preparation to make sure guys like Gibbs/Wanamaker are accounted for at all times. JC referred to a lack of effort after yesterday's game. Obviously, effort level has to go up by a mile on Wed. for us to compete on the boards. Guys who aren't seeing their jumpers fall can't get discouraged and let it affect their play on the defensive end. Otherwise, this will look a lot like the 2009 beatdown we took at home from them. Richfame, you are absolutely correct in saying that this is a scary game because a B+ game by us might not even get us a win. That's the difference between playing a Pitt and a WVU/SJU, and what makes its even more maddening that we have dropped these games recently. Our losses have had everything to do with what we did not do, not what we could not do. On a positive note, we're getting the students back for this one. Come early, come often, and come loud.

Yep. People do realize that we have played WVU like 3 times in our last 10 BE games. If everyone knows our offense, I am pretty sure we would know Huggins defense and offense.
That being said, III doesnt do anyone any favors when he says the same thing all the time. Personally, it's getting a little old hearing, "This is the BE, our opponents are familiar with us, every game is a tough game and tough win."
We all watch a lot of BE basketball, and I certainly dont see a lot of the elite teams not taking care of business when they are supposed to. As I said after the SJU game, sure, SJU is a disciplined team, but I bet good teams would destroy them by taking it to them. ND destroyed them last night.
We need to play our game and stop worrying about this adjustment baloney.

Dixon is one of the best coaches in CB and, like other good coaches in the BE, knows us well. JT3 has his hands full with this game. At the beginning of the game and looking at our recent perimeter stuggles, Dixon's strategy will be the same one used by the rest of the BE: packed the lanes to protect against the backdoor, go one-on-one against our center, have their best or tall defender on Austin, let CW shoot the 3 until he starts making them, and watch to see if we get hot from outside; adjust when needed. Who guards 6'6" G. Brown? What about Gibbs and Wannamaker? Can our guards guard them? Who stops their #3-ranked rebounding? If we knock down our shots like in the OOC, we do not have to worry about the rebounding% disparity, and that GU offense will force their offense to keep up. Our defense will look better if Pitt is feeling the heat from our offense. Defending with good offense... But, what happens if the shots don't fall? What happens if the starting guards are not guarding effectively? Will JT3 assign one Hoya to guard the hot hand or will he stick to waiting for that Pitt player to miss because in the long run he will? If it comes down to the wire, who guards the hot hand? If we play as instructed and light it up vs Pitt, 30-footers and all, will the coaching staff feel redeemed? Will the previous games be considered an anomaly or will they learn from them? If we light it up, it will be an interesting press conference for strummer to prepare.

Villanova is playing Cincy at home, which is really akin to us playing WVU at home. And, they are just abusing them. They are playing physical, which is their game, and taking the game to Cincy. I highly doubt Jay Wright went into this game thinking, "I need to be ready to make adjustments since I have been coaching Nova for so many years and everyone is going to know how I play."

There're really only two ways I see this one going: terrible or sensational. Hate to say that the former looks likelier than the latter at this point.

12-4 with 14 games to go. I'm ready to forget the past two weeks. A win against Pitt would be a great way to start that. Recent play has been ugly but I'm not ready to give up on everything. Learn and improve and this will all be a distant memory in March. One pass, one defensive stop, and one win at a time. Keep finding the open person and the shots will start dropping.

No. What is there to adjust? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I bet he would adjust, and he has before, if it wasn't working. Right now they're the #7-ranked team. They are an experienced team and 9 players got 6+ mins. Their upperclassmen are playing like upperclassmen. Plus, Nova was playing at home, a tough place to win for visitors. Cincy hadn't played a top 25 opponent this season. From ESPN.com: "Big East games are so intense, and I think our seniors kept us together," Wright said. "We did a good job defending the perimeter." Guess what Jay Wright has in store for the GU game at Nova...

I'm glad this next game is against Pitt. Will show us exactly what we are made of rather than some game against Seton Hall or Rutgers. If we win, we are right back on track in the league and hopefully with some confidence back to go on a roll. We lose big, then I have to think that even JTIII will bring some dramatic changes. The worst possible scenario is a close loss since we'd probably just see more of the same junk from this past week for at least another two or three games.

Watching this game in Pittsburgh might be the worst experience I have as a Hoya fan since Greg Oden barreled into a well-positioned, feet-planted Jeff Green and went to the free throw line for it.
