MissouriHoya, what game are going to watch? I am planning to make the trip back home to see them play Maplewood-Richmond on Saturday. If that is the game you are coming down for, let me know and we can meet up. I was down for the game on Friday. Otto really put on a show, including a nice one-handed windmill in the second quarter and an 80ft buzzer beater to end the first half. Sadly they aren't on the highlight video because the camera crew had already left. I had the chance to meet Coach Kirby after the game who is a really cool guy and spoke very highly of Porter. I didn't realize that he started his career at Three Rivers CC, the local juco about an hour away from Sikeston. He arrived there the year after Otto Sr. left for Southeast Missouri State, but has known him since that time. I'm willing to bet that is how Georgetown was able to hear about and get in on Otto Jr. before many others were who are outside the state of Missouri. Thanks Crash. GREAT to know that KIRBY is on this one, and that he has another connection to Otto Sr. Will be very interesting to see how this one plays out. After getting Tyler to decommit from Duke to choose GU, I won't say anything/anyone is out of reach for this guy! They are gonna be playing a local high school team i believe its on a tuesday night!

Crash, thanks for the report but I believe it's against regulations for coaches to talk about unsigned recruits to boosters/fans/reporters. Please think about editing your post accordingly. Hey no problem, went ahead and edited for ya. However the discussion wasn't about Georgetown's recruitment of him, but rather Otto's skill set.

Missourihoya,
They are playing Scott City, a Class 3 school in their conference, on tuesday night. It will be ugly (like a 50pt blowout) but with their game against Maplewood coming up on Saturday I imagine the starters will play at least 3 quarters.

Porter got picked for the Jordan Brand Classic. Only undecided player in the game.

Porter got picked for the Jordan Brand Classic. Only undecided player in the game. Maybe Otto was lamenting how he wasn't on the national radar to JTIII and then a certain member of the Board of Directors of Nike took it upon himself to be sure that Otto was included in this game! If so, I'm sure that it happened in strict compliance with all rules and regulations

Eric Bossi of Rivals.com was asked about which HS recruit might make the biggest jump when their final recruit rankings are announced. His reply follows (Excerpt only!) For me, I think I have to go with Otto Porter, the near 6-foot-9 forward from Sikeston (Mo.) Scott County Central. He's currently a four-star and ranked No. 97 nationally, but there's a good chance that he could make a push for a ranking in five-star thanks to his unique blend of size, skill and fluid athleticism.

Getting Otto would be the cap to what would be an amazing, and what looked like 6 months ago impossible, 2011 recruiting season.

Honestly, he seems like a great catch but we really need guards. If we take him we only have 1 scholly left for 2012 and would probably need to spend that on a ball handler
I know its weird saying this but we seem to be set in terms of our front court but we need more ball handlers. Jabril will be a valuable addition for even just his energy but I'm worried about how quickly he will be able to fit into the offense.

Hometown, while I may be inclined to agree with you; there is no way you turn down Ochefu if he wants to come. As someone said earlier, the schollie situation will work itself out and always does. Even Kyle gets the ship if he wants it, but he'd be that guard/forward that's needed. Obviously Hoyas are serious about Otto or they wouldn't be trekking to middle of nowhere Missouri to see him. That leads me to believe that they'll take the kid in a second and worry about 2012 afterwards.

I don't like this "schollie situation will work itself out". I'd rather have to find another recruit if someone leaves rather then over recruiting and "forcing" someone out. Really who on the current team would you want to make it "work out"? JB but I doubt he is unhappy enough to transfer.

Such is the nature of the beast. This is not intermurals ...this is Division 1 brother. If this kid wants in you take him and worry about it later.

I understand that bronx...you always want the best talent. But when do you just take the talent you have, coach them up, and recruit to fill up any holes? How do you know that '11 Porter is more worth it then '13 Sumrandom Dhoood? Or even that a '11 Porter with no knowledge of our system is better then a Benimon (bad example i know) or Sims or even Moses with experience in our system?
If all of the top 5 Centers from '13 commit...you don't take them all and replace Sims/Moses/Lubick
I guess the real issue with Porter is are we happy with our bird in hand for next year? If so then we hope for the two in the bush, if not then I'd say go for it.

Yea, I don't know exactly how this is going to work either, but I think we need some more fire power in this class and every report is so damn positive when it comes to Otto.
We need another PG. It really is too bad we didn't get Tyrone Johnson. Everyone see that report on ESPN today about how he can do everything and will be a "beast in the big east?" Who knows, maybe he would have challenged Markel next year.
I guess I am saying all of this because Chris has been so amazing this year and next year we enter into a year of uncertainty with our starting PG--with no true backup PG. Not great.
Again, not sure how this is all going to work out, but I just hope it does.

A bird in hand.....plus if he is going to shoot up the rankings that is a good way to get our name out there. Talented kids win titles. Get a lot of them and JT3 will become a even better coach. When it comes to recruiting, a "bird in the hand" is worth MORE than two in the bush.
As for "schollies will work themselves out", we have no way of knowing what coach and staff know about which kids want to stay and which may not. (and even if we DID know, the mods wouldn't let us post it!) Doesn't mean anyone is being "forced out". Does anyone remember Cornelio Guibunda? He was a Frosh JT3's first year, never played, then left --- for AU I think. Was he "forced" out? Or just didn't see a future here? However it happens, kids leave. Some we'd rather have stay (VM, JR), assuming they had the right attitude to go along with their talent. Some we'd just as soon wish the best and don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.
If Porter wants to be a Hoya.... welcome him with OPEN arms!

Take the best players- period.
Starks will play the point for several years. Vee is a combo who will see a lot of minutes. Trawick is also a combo. We will be fine at the one.

Yeah I'm comfortable with who we have at the 1 for the next two years. Markel is a very strong combo and I think Vee is more than capable of giving us minutes spelling Markel. The issue is after that, in Markel's senior year where we would probably having a freshman backup if we don't sign one in '12. But hey, it's been fine this year.

The other issue is that if Markel or Vee get hurt, are in foul trouble, or for some reason aren't available, we will be down to one ball handler. I also don't love the idea of Vee having to handle the point if the SG (Bowen, Trawick) has an iffy handle.
In spite of that, though, we clearly should take Porter if he wants to come here - it isn't the last scholarship and obviously a Porter commitment is much more valuable than a chance at Ochefu or Anderson. It becomes tougher if Porter commits and then we need to decide on taking another guy that isn't a PG.

I really covet Porter. I think the future for Georgetown's roster is 1-2 point guard types (Markel Starks), 2-3 Big Men (Lubick, Adams) and 5-6 players with length that can shoot, pass, and slash (H. Thompson, Trawick).
I love these guys that are between 6'4-6'9, provide length on defense and can play both at the rim and outside the three point line. I believe that the Princeton system is at its most dangerous with these types of recruits. That's why I'm all over guys like Porter and Kyle Anderson. Their versatility makes them so dangerous in the Princeton system.
