I think the reserving schollie question is complicated if you think you have good chances at landing players the caliber of Kyle and Ochefu... If you think your chances are low at landing Kyle and Ochefu, then you take the bird in hand if Porter wants to come and figure out the rest later. I thought we had a good/great chance to land Roscoe S. and Rakeem C. and look where that ended.

According to eric bossi:
Otto had 31 pts., 11 rebs, 11 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks thru 3 quarters. He was pulled from the game at that point. Coach Kirby in the house!

I don't care the level of competition. That is a ridiculous stat line for anyone anywhere anytime.
Coach Kirby is working hard.
Noticed recently, too, that JTIII is relying quite a bit on Kirby during game/timeout situations as well. I've also noticed that one of our assistant coaches (I think Brennan) is basically assigned to sit next Markel all game and provide coaching/instruction. This must be in preparation for next year when he is going to be asked to run the offense.

doing some digging it appears we had Kirby out there on January 14th as well. (and maybe more since then?) If we lose out, it won't be due to lack of effort.

Was just thinking that if Porter signs, the Hoyas incoming 2011 class could be:
SG - Jabril SF - Porter PF- Hopkins C - Adams
That's a nice balance of highly regarded players. You would also think that we would need to target a PG in 2012 or 2013.
If Porter signs, we can't get both Anderson and Ochefu from Class of 2012 unless someone transfers.
With Duke on Anderson now, perhaps Ochefu becomes our top target. And I guess we hope Markel can handle PG duties with a little help from Vee, Jabril, and Aaron. Seems a bit risky to me, but in JTIII I trust.

Porter will be tough to pry out of Mizz but if we do, huge coup for the staff.
As for Anderson, I don't understand why everyone is so worried about Duke just because they are involved in his recruitment. I would be more concerned with some schools further north.

Scout's Brian Snow suggests Porter had an argument for the McD's AA team and that he expects to rise from his current #49 ranking:
"Porter is one of the most interesting test cases of the class. He was seen by virtually nobody until his senior season, and before it is all said and done could finish as a top 25 prospect. Porter did not play AAU basketball and only plays for a small high school, but in a big time matchup against Chicago (IL) Simeon early in the year, which is one of the top teams in the country, Porter dominated with 20 points. Currently Porter is No. 49 in the Scout.com top 100, but he is in position for a big bump up the rankings.
Quite simply very few of the McDonald’s voters have actually seen Porter play live, and at the end of the day probably was what kept him out of the game as much as anything. A good kid with great grades, Porter simply didn’t have enough evaluations from enough people to get the votes needed on the roster."

There is another way we can free up a scholly for both of them in 2012 that doesn't involve a transfer and that isn't that out of the question - an early departure to the NBA. The more I watch him and considering his potential I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hollis jumped early after next year (and before it inevitably gets mentioned, he could earn the credits to graduate by coming back over the summers like some of our past players).

It's also not out of the question for him to graduate next year, since he'll have had 3.5 years of classes. That, of course, assumes he blows up on the court next year.

ESPN.com: "Uncommitted senior forward Otto Porter finished with a triple-double (31 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals) in just three quarters in win over Oran on Friday night.
According to KSDK Channel 5 in Scott County, Georgetown had an assistant coach in the building to watch. Porter is also being recruited by Missouri, Memphis, Murray State, Missouri State and Southeast Missouri State."

Hes coming out of the same area the Hansbrough boys did so i wouldn't be worried! Kid is the real deal I'm gonna watch him play next week! Anyone know when hes gonna make his decision? I just don't think he fits in at mizzou like he does georgetown! Don't forget that memphis is closer to home for him than mizzou!

Fact that he gets good grades bodes well for g'town. Why wouldn't Otto want to play at the best school with the best program. It's the perfect fit.
As for Hollis, kid has NBA talent but will be a 4 year kid. He still needs to be much more consistent, needs to work on his handle, needs to get stronger, needs to adjust to be the number one option. Plus, he's still really young.

MissouriHoya - I think the board would really appreciate a report from you after you seem Otto play in person. Very very few people have seen him play live.
Not sure when Otto is going to make his decision, but it has to be pretty soon. I'd really hate to lose this cat to Memphis. Missouri I can sort of understand, but Memphis would be a little bit of a gut punch.

MissouriHoya, what game are going to watch? I am planning to make the trip back home to see them play Maplewood-Richmond on Saturday. If that is the game you are coming down for, let me know and we can meet up.
I was down for the game on Friday. Otto really put on a show, including a nice one-handed windmill in the second quarter and an 80ft buzzer beater to end the first half. Sadly they aren't on the highlight video because the camera crew had already left. I had the chance to meet Coach Kirby after the game who is a really cool guy. I didn't realize that he started his career at Three Rivers CC, the local juco about an hour away from Sikeston. He arrived there the year after Otto Sr. left for Southeast Missouri State, but has known him since that time. I'm willing to bet that is how Georgetown was able to hear about and get in on Otto Jr. before many others were who are outside the state of Missouri.

GREAT to know that KIRBY is on this one, and that he has another connection to Otto Sr. Will be very interesting to see how this one plays out. After getting Tyler to decommit from Duke to choose GU, I won't say anything/anyone is out of reach for this guy!

Crash, thanks for the report but I believe it's against regulations for coaches to talk about unsigned recruits to boosters/fans/reporters. Please think about editing your post accordingly.
