While it hurts to lose another recruiting battle, I am not too phased by this one. In 2012, we will have a huge roster, with all of the guys below being 6'8 or above:
Lubick, Adams, Ayegba, Hopkins, Bolden, Whittington, Thompson, Benimon
Our frontcourt is going to be alright. In my opinion, we should be working on high profile guards because Starks, Trawick, Bowen and Sanford is not going to get it done.

Is Ochefu? He doesn't play AAU ball, and his high school squad loses to Jabril's team when Jabril is playing center!
I'm not saying the kid isn't a stud - but it's hardly set in stone that he'll be better than our guys.

Gotta go back to lurker mode again.. I can't - this off-season will be brutal on all boards HOYA related. It will only get worse from here , see you when the Kenner starts up.

It's not the end all folks. I like Ochefu--seems like a nice kid and has values--and choosing Villanova it's not like he chose a clown school where he'll never go to class, etc.....he did what he wanted to do and it's his life. He's also a class of '12 recruit--so there is plenty of time to recruit other players--and I just hope someone other then III and Kirby can do something. Makes you wonder the worth of Brennan/Hunter on recruiting trail--specifically Kenya Hunter who hasn't done anything special since being hired.
Good luck to Daniel-except against the Hoyas of course-and onto the next one--whomever that may be.

PS---like I said--NEVER TRUST a big man from Philly who lists Georgetown as his favorite school--they NEVER come. I'd not even bother wasting my time there anymore.

With all the big guys we've been recruiting, and the graduation of Freeman and Wright, I could see NOVA making the argument that they have the guards to get the ball to Ochefu and who knows who will be at GU.
Whatever argument they made, it was effective. Man, I really want to see JT3 pull in another couple of top kids - and one has to be a PG.

“I have made my college decision,” he said. “I am going to Villanova.”
“The Nova campus is nice, they have a great coaching staff and I have enjoyed my visits there. I feel like Nova will be the best situation for me.”
The Westtown product becomes the third member of Villanova’s tremendous 2012 recruiting class. Jay Wright’s class features three elite Pennsylvania products, including Ryan Arcidiacono of Neshaminy and Savon Goodman of the Academy of the New Church.
He made the decision with his parents and his longtime coach, Seth Berger. Ochefu wanted to find a coach who could help develop his skills and potential in order to drive him to the NBA. Jay Wright has produced several NBA prospects.

Jay Wright has produced several NBA prospects. Of them, only one was 6'8 or taller

In sports, I find that during moments of painful loss, the lows a fan experiences really aren't as bad they seem to be in the moment.
I feel that is the case here. Ochefu would have been a great pick-up, but no single recruit is guaranteed of being a prime-time, immediate impact player. In reality, this team needs more help at the guard position when you look at the projected roster after this season.
Perhaps we can focus on getting the best 2012 guard available, whether that be Kyle or someone else.
For those dissing JTIII's recruiting ability, we had two McDonald's All Americans signed from class of 2007. JTIII successfully recruited the #1 national POY, DC POY, B-more POY from class of 2008 (and took in the 2007 VA POY as a transfer). The class of 2009, probably his weakest class, still had Hollis a Top 50 player who has developed nicely, and a sleeper in Vee. And last year's class had a Top 50 recruit in Lubick and a Top 75 recruit in Starks.
Next year's class has Top 50 talents in Hopkins and Adams, and two sleepers in Trawick and Whittington.
The man works extremely hard on the recruiting trail and has brought in legit, BE talent.
You might quibble with the team chemistry, lack of beef, lack of athleticism, and/or lack of complementary talents, but on a raw recruiting basis, the man is not a failure and has closed on top level talent repeatedly over the past several years.
Everyone take a breath. This too shall pass.
We need a PG anyway. Honestly, probably best that this didn't muddy things up.

We desperately need an elite player in 2012 - can't go 4 straight classes with just "solid" players.
So hopefully Anderson works out better.

Guys--dont hold your breath on Kyle Anderson. I'd love for him to come--and he'd be a great fit--but odds of that happening--I don't like nearly as much as others who seem to think he's coming or that Hoyas are even a co-favorite.
Ranch Dressing made some outstanding points--and agree---thing is--if you are in an industry that relies on acquiring the talent of teenagers and young men--then you have to know what they are looking for/appeals to them basketball wise. Georgetown name gets into most living rooms/guys pick up phone--but noticing the trend of guys who reportedly are "heavy leans" to Hoyas stalling/waiting to pull trigger? Why? What makes them hesitant? If you mention the number of NBA players a coach puts in the league--and are a frontcourt player--as a factor-then something else is taking place as to what is turning the kid off.
Think we all know what that "something else" is--and whether we agree or not-it's what the kids think that matters if you want to bring in elite talent over course of your tenure. It comes down to getting talent--it's much easier to compete over long haul when you can get big time talent on a yearly basis. It's harder to sell to your fans that you are a championship contender with a "system" as focal point.
So what will Hoya program do? Stick with their guns and hope they find some gems and system puts them in position to compete for 2-3 years and then repeat cycle? Or adapt to what kids want in terms of style of play--change to accomodate that--and start bringing in better talent over longterm and be in contention more consistently?
Want to emphasize by "talent" I'm referring to NBA caliber athletes/players---not what scouting services rank these guys. Never go off that--but for all the bashing McDonalds All American process gets--a lot of NBA players come from that game--so you are best to keep going that route if you want to compete at highest level over longer term.

I guess it's good to get all of this bad news (VCU loss and Ochefu) out of the way all at once.
That's all I got.

This is absolutely atrocious. I understand losing some of our top recruits to programs like Duke, UNC, Kentucky, hell even Syracuse, but Nova?! Nova is basically GTown-lite in every imaginable way; Georgetown is better than Villanova by all standards. If you ask any Villanova student where they really wanted to go to college, they would say they wanted to go to Georgetown, but couldn't get in. The fact that we are losing so many recruits to Nova is a reflection of the state of our basketball program and the recruiting abilities of our coaching staff, period. If our program was where it should be, this would not happen. We are "Big Man U" for Christ's sake! Furthermore, we have two big men committed to us (Hopkins and Bolden) who have "bust" written all over them. I've seen both of these guys play in person, and saying they were unimpressive would be an understatement. The recruiting job this staff has done is shameful. I'm not one to panic, but too many things have gone wrong for this program over the last 3 years to not see the writing on the wall; we are in serious trouble.
