How does he compare to Sam Thompson? Would he be a good alternative if Sam doesn't come through?

Couldn't find any game tape on him...but found this little interview. He is ranked at #85 in his class from ESPN for whatever it worth. Insider went on to say that Hood is a smooth small forward who can lead the break in transition or initiate offense for his team. He is a very skilled ball handler driving by defenders off the bounce or dropping off nice passes to teammates. Hood keeps defenders honest with his stroke from behind the arc.

From ESPN's Paul Biancardi at LeBron camp:
"Rodney Hood (Meridian, Miss./Meridian) 2011, SF, 6-foot-8, 190 pounds Hood is a long, athletic forward who shows range and accuracy on his jumper. He is comfortable knocking down mid-range jumpers and extending his distance beyond the arc. He uses his jumper to stretch the defense and set up his dribble-penetration game. When paired with his ability to score from inside and outside, his size and length could make him a mismatch for defenders down the road. He also has quick hands and feet which allow him to defend multiple positions and can cause deflections because of his active hands and alert mind. Hood definitely has the ability to be a productive player on both ends of the court."

According to Scout:
Rodney Hood lists Florida State, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Georgetown, Ohio State, Mississippi State. The Hoyas, according to Hood, are coming the hardest.

ESPN article from LeBron camp:
"Rodney Hood (Meridian, Miss./Meridian) has had a great week of camp and games. The left-handed, versatile forward lists FSU, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ohio State and Tennessee as schools he's interested in."

Rodney Hood, SF, MBA Hoops- It's been a very good summer for Hood and he had another nice outing on Wednesday. He's always had great size for the wing, but now that he's developed a consistent jumper and learned to mix it with his game off the bounce, he's reached a new level of play.
The MBA Hoops Elite wing tandem of LaQuinton Ross and Rodney Hood drew a nice crowd of coaches. Among those checking them out were Marquette's Buzz Williams, Florida State's Leonard Hamilton, Paul Hewitt of Georgia Tech, John Thompson from Georgetown, Alabama's Anthony Grant and Arkansas' John Pelphrey. There were also assistants from Mississippi State, Ohio State and Louisville amongst the crowd.

From Rivals article in Orlando:
"MBA Elite is a team that has a chance to go a long way down in Orlando, and the play of wing Rodney Hood will probably determine how far they advance. Hood is a very skilled 6-foot-7 player who is unique and difficult to defend when he has it working.
Hood did have it going on Wednesday for MBA Elite, and he carried them to a win in the second half. After a fairly quite first half, Hood decided to take over, and he did it using his mid-range game.
A super smooth player, Hood is able to get by his defender, and from there he has a unique ability to score in the mid-range. In an era where the mid-range game is a lost art, Hood has a two dribble pull-up jumper that is absolutely pure. He hit several of those jumpers from 15-17 feet in the half, and just proved to be able to get where he wants whenever he wants on the basketball floor.
Along with being able to knock down the mid-range shot, Hood also attacked the rim off the bounce, and used his athleticism and length to score inside. Mostly a perimeter player, Hood has a skill set that most prospects his size don't possess, and when it is all clicking for him he is one of the best in the country.
Rodney Hood has offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Miami, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Georgia, and Louisville. Also he is hearing from Missouri, UTEP, and Florida."

Chep, I think hes a longer, bigger player then Austin...but if he could get Austin's skills in that body that would be incredible! He seems like one 3 I would consider for '11...don't think he will end up a Hoya though.

MaxPreps article from Las Vegas had this about Hood:
"Rodney Hood, MBA Elite: Hood torched the Michigan Mustangs for 27 points in the morning. The Meridian (Meridian, Miss.) wing looks all of 6-8 and has developed a dangerous jumper out to the arc. He was also great off the dribble and paired with Ross to give MBA Elite two towering primary ballhandlers. Hood ticked off Florida State, Georgia Tech, Marquette Michigan State and Seton Hall as schools that stood out. According to Hood, all have offered."

Officially down to 7: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgetown, Louisville, and Ohio State. Unfortunately, a lot of people saying he is likely to follow LaQuinton Ross to Ohio State. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1114973Does have some really nice things to say about the Hoyas, however. I still like our chances.

would think that Ross's commitment would knock them out of the running/they wouldn't need hood at this point. But what do i know...
hopefully Kirby and JTIII can make something happen

In latest Scout article, Hood notes that he has set up two official visits in September: Georgia Tech and Florida State. Also notes that he has developed the best relationships at this point with the staffs at Georgia Tech, Florida State and Alabama. louisville.scout.com/2/993693.htmlNot great news. Hopefully we can get him on campus for Midnight Madness, but I personally think it will be difficult to overcome an early September football weekend in Tallahassee.
