Those are some solid players, nothing wrong with 4 year guys. Jordan O would definitely be a project, I like Katenda, and Reischel and Mbargorba are intriguing

What's crazy about all of this is that Georgetown loses an assistant (Cox) who was openly mocked by people who follow the program as a hindrance more than anything, yet it seems like his departure may lead to the program bringing in borderline Big East talent in 2011.
Yet, Maryland of all programs loses an assistant (Driesell) who was solid on the trail, replaces with him with an assistant from Xavier yet already has a commitment from Sterling Gibbs, and is preparing to have an in-home with Nick Faust tomorrow and is considered the leader for his services. They also look like the favorite for Greg Lewis, and real contenders for Adjehi Baru and Johnny O'Bryant who they recently had in in-home with and who is scheduled for an official in the near future.
Never thought I'd see the day a Gary Williams-led program was outhustling Georgetown on the trail.

gibbs was committed before the change in assistants at maryland.
And I'm not sure it has anything to do with out hustling. I don't think our recruiting is an indication we're not working hard enough. Perhaps not working smart enough, but it's not an issue of effort.

I'm pretty sure Mbargorba has officially re-classified to 2012.
Also, I think it's important to note that we didn't lose just Coach Cox, but also Coach Burke and Matt Henry pretty recently. These are guys that I would imagine played a pretty significant role in formulating recruiting strategy.
As for Maryland, we are definitely being out-hustled. Bino Ranson is a fantastic recruiter and is the reason Maryland is probably going to be the choice for Nick Faust and Greg Lewis. He used to run Baltimore Assault, and the Terps will be the choice for B-more studs I'd imagine for the foreseeable future (who choose to stay in the area). Additionally, Ranson is also the recruiter that Johnny O'Bryant personally identified as being the reason Maryland made his list.
Bino Ranson came to Maryland from Xavier. We brought in a guy from Xavier as well, unfortunately, we haven't seen similar results. Where are Coach Hunter's ties anyway? Sounds like Kirby has some good connections in the South, but why do we never hear any recruits mentioning their relationship with Coach Hunter? Not trying to throw the guy under the bus, just curious...Cox took a lot of heat from Hoya fans on the various boards and Coach Hunter seems to be free of fault for some reason...

Technically speaking, Gibbs committed on the same day that Driesell took the job. maryland.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1078889Gibbs first called Driesell, ironically, on the same day he accepted the job as Head Coach at the Citadel.
"I heard he got that job, and I am happy for him," said Gibbs. "He was my lead recruiter, but I am still close with all the Terp coaches. However, I wasn't trying to imply his commitment had anything to do with the coaching change, just stating it as matter of fact. However, since the coaching change, they have become major players for guys like Baru, Faust and O'Bryant. You could be right about it being a matter of working smarter instead of working harder, however this quote from O'Bryant stuck with me as to why he was considering Maryland all of a sudden: maryland.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1114821"Well, Coach Bino (Ranson) has been working me hard all summer," said O'Bryant. "He's just a really persistent coach and recruiter, and I liked what he was saying. He told me about how the Maryland system is great for big guys, and how the system runs inside-out ... like I said, I really like Bino, he's worked as hard as anyone recruiting me, and I thought that Maryland deserved a real chance to recruit me ... they did the work, and so I am considering them along with the other six schools."

Again maybe it's a matter of semantics, but in my mind hustling has to do with amount of time out of the trail or in contact with recruits. I think Bino has better contacts and maybe is doing more with that contact, but is he going to more open gyms than our guys? Watching more games? Making more phone calls? How are we being out hustled? Not saying your wrong, but it seems like we're out on the trail as much as anyone else. We're being out recruited, but I think it's more about skill and strategy than effort, but I could be wrong.

Re Vince Van Nes, the 7-footer, ESPN says: Bottom Line: A highly skilled big man who is most comfortable facing the basket, Van Nes would be an ideal fit in a Princeton style, or comparable, system. While he still needs to get tougher and more comfortable playing through contact he has undeniable tools with his size and skill. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/102226/vince-van-nes

Without saying names some of our assistants have no personality. You need a coach that can relate to get kids now days.

Without saying names some of our assistants have no personality. You need a coach that can relate to get kids now days. You also need a pulse. Agree--this program is like a stale SBD bomb in the grocery store--it can make you laugh, but damn does it make you sick how you walk into it, and have no idea who is doing the damage. Does everyone know that Sydney Johnson made Desmond Hubert's final list of schools but Georgetown didn't? So a guy who can't give out a scholarship has outrecruited Georgetown--that's a credit to the staff III initially hired and what they are missing. Kirby or "Curby" as Tony Parker tweets--"Get it done". This poor guy is responsible for everything apparently.

i mean the hiring of kirby clearly is in response to this....yes you need someone who can relate...seems the cox was very effective in this respect but it seems only later in his gtown career and was hindered by things with his connections with DCA and gtown. Unfortunately for us this change came at a bad time. I think the addition of Kirby is going to be a great thing but its unfair to expect him to come in late while he's been pitching a completely different school and expect results right away. i honestly wish i could explain whats been happening but don't really know anymore than all of you...

I played my H.S ball in the Shore Conference and a couple coaches I know down there say The kid has come along way and is focused on getting better daily. When asked if he's B.E material , they all said by the time he's a soph. he'll be ready. I haven't watched him play yet , but I'm interested in seeing him play vs. real comp. www.cuttingdownnets.com/2010/09/16/jarelle-reischel-interview/

If we could get this kid and a few more project bigs, it would be a salvageable class and then ramp up with some marquee talent in 2012. I don't think the Kentucky model works as far as winning it all where the MSU model is the one we should follow due to some of the programs inherent limitations (ie..facilities, size of alumni base).
