That would be a great move for Skinner - to a school in an actual basketball conference. He might actually be able to recruit at St. Johns.

SHU apparently is waiting to contact the Cornell AD for permission to talk to Donahue. That's a good angle to pursue.
The word is that McCaffrey has apparently dug in because SHU cannot pay him much more than the 500K or so that he makes at Siena. SHU has interviewed the coaches of Robert Morris and Iona. Mike Longergan of VT and Adrian Griffin remain in the mix according to the NY Post.

I can see Skinner jumping to SJU. He grew up in New York and he coaches at a school that simply does not care about basketball or really any sport besides the Red Sox. He ahs coached in the BE before and has been successful. This one might make the most sense of what I have heard so far.

BC fans are giddy at the prospect of Skinner leaving for SJU.

Steve Lavin would definately fit the "criteria" that AAU guys in NYC mentioned "hurts" SJU---being dirty. Would be fun having the slickster back in CBB though--and in Big East because I'd rather have SJU be "dirty" and win then UConn, WVU, etc.....
Skinner aka Dudley's Dad from Different Strokes return to Big East would also be welcomed. He runs a loose ship-but is a good coach and leaving UNC/DUKE League would give him a legit chance to compete without having to take it in shorts to those two teams.

Skinner is a class guy. It seems only right that he would want to leave those hypocrites at Benedictarnold College

Lavin seems to be positioned well for the stretch run in Queens. I like the hire for the reasons discussed above. He brings a goon back to the BE, and we need one of those with Gonzo and Creepy gone from the league.
SHU, on the other hand...They seem to be ready to get skunked. Their fans are souring on McCaffrey.

But will Springfield Elementary let Skinner leave?
Seriously, either Skinner or McCaffrey would be good choices, but SJU doesn't really have much leverage with either one of them -- watch the Redmen board explode if it's not done by Easter.
I'm wondering if Siena's early out in the dance has led McC to reassess whether he'll ever do any better there -- they had an experienced team that seemed ready to make a little noise.

But perhaps Skinner could hire Gordon Jump to train the SJU players in "Neptune King of the Sea". One of my favorite nicknames from this board is indeed "Dudley's Father"* for Al Skinner.

BC fans are giddy at the prospect of Skinner leaving for SJU. BC fans are idiots. I still don't understand how Skinner got that school to the top of the Big East conference before they left - and he won an ACC title on fumes. At the time he left he was probably the best coach in the BE conference.

McCaffery is off the board as he's taking the job at Iowa.

Am I the only one that thinks SJU (or any major conference team looking for a coach) should be going all-out to get Brad Stevens of Butler? And I don't say that only as a reaction to this year's Final Four -- Butler has won 4 consecutive Horizon league championships and plays an impressive brand of basketball.
Plus having him at SJU would be great cuz we know exactly how to beat that system or should I say, crush it.

Skinner is a class guy. It seems only right that he would want to leave those hypocrites at Benedictarnold College FWIW, one of the BC hierarchy told me a few months back that Skinner was the laziest guy at BC---maybe he's a great bench coach and has a very good staff, I'm not sure how hard he'll push with a LTerm guaranteed contract--he is coasting now at BC off his early real success.
