Solid recruiter, questionable game coach. Decent choice, could probably get talent to St. John's and get them back in the NCAAs.

Here's perhaps a forgotten tidbit - Robert Burke was on Hewitt's staff at Siena. I wonder how much folks in the Siena community still give Hewitt credit for the program's successes of late.
SHU is focusing on Mike Rice (head coach of Robert Morris) and Fran McCaffrey of Siena. Their board suggests Rice has the inside track at this time. He would be a typical NJ hire - strike iron while hot but throw him under the bus when the iron is cold. I give it the life of the contract to materialize but no longer.
It sounds like DePaul is standing pat and will take their search to the upcoming coaches meetings.

SJU should hire MARK JACKSON. He supposedly wants to be the Knicks head coach so Jackson should go resurrect his alma mater for 5 years and then be ready to actually lead the Knicks. You know SJU would get a lot of NY kids if Jackson was there. I know Mark is comfortable commentating but I believe he is a competitor at heart and if they can scrape together big $$$ for Donovan why not Jackson?

Hewitt a good coach...though probably not the program changer that Jonny fans are hoping for.

I think they would settle for spectators in the seats and players on the court. Jackson would give them those two and a veteran x's and o's assistant (where's Brian Mahoney?) could guide the grease board.

From what I've read, one of the influential SJU alumni in the mix is the guy who started Vitamin Water and has made a lot of coin in the beverage industry. 50 Cent?

I think SJU needs to face reailty, they are an average academic commuter school with limited facilities and very high fan expectations. Given their limitations, Hewitt would be a very good hire if they can lure him away from a comfy spot in Atlanta. He is a GREAT recruiter and that cannot be debated. He is a poor Xs and Os coach, but let's face it, in NYC having the big names is usually almost as good as winning.
For us, this is a hire I can be supportive of. I want SJU to do better but I do not want it to come at a cost to GU's own success. Seeing as Hewitt will likely be focusing on NYC's talent, it should not effect us much besides giving us back a rivalry to watch when the Hoyas visit MSG.

NCHoya, St. John's has made a considerable investment in their facilities, don't minimize their commentment to improve their program.

It's Hewitt's job if he accepts. Tech boosters will go after Tubby Smith.

Hmmm.... not so sure Hewitt is the guy I would open the vaults for. He has had only minimal success at Georgia Tech despite strong recruiting classes. He has the Final 4 appearance to his credit, but he also only has one winning conference record (9-7) in 10 years there. He can probably bring the Johnnies to the level of respectable in the Big East, which would be a nice step up, but I don't think he is the man to bring back memories of Walter Berry and Chris Mullin.

I think they would be fine with respectable especially if he can recruit from the top of the NY scene. Also he coached in the incredibly difficult ACC, 9-7 is like 18-0 in the Big East ;D

Mark Jackson would stack that roster. Players that excelled in the LEAGUE carry serious weight with recruits. That carpetbagging scumbucket Isiah Thomas is pulling kids to FIU for crying out loud. I hope they do hire someone like Hewitt because SJU will not be a powerhouse. You put Jackson in there and SJU would be TOUGH.
