I think this guy just heard something wrong. In fact, later in the thread he suggests he might have. In any case, I had to pass this on: www.gatorcountry.com/swampgas/showthread.php?t=147780Someone later suggests it was St. Johns. Anyone heard anything about that up your way?

Maybe they meant that Urban Meyer will be taking a lower stress position as the head football coach of Georgetown. I'm not sure which is a less likely scenario.

All reports indicate St. John's is making a run at Billy D.

All reports indicate St. John's is making a run at Billy D. I approve of this. Good for the conference to have a good team back in New York.

I'd be fine with having Donovan be an assistant coach at Georgetown.

All reports indicate St. John's is making a run at Billy D. I approve of this. Good for the conference to have a good team back in New York. Plus, BONUS: someone we already hate! It's win-win all around! Seriously, I think we all respect SJU a lot more than our other rivals, and we all want them to be good again, but isn't part of that reason that it would feel good to hate St. Johns again? Forget the Mullin era, think about all the others. Remember when we hated Ron Artest before the rest of America learned to hate him? Remember when we all knew Jayson Williams was a bad seed? Can you ever hear the name "Boo" anymore without wanting to throw up just a little? I could keep going..... Anyway, this would be good, but it'll probly never happen.

I'm disappointed because for a brief instant reading the title of this thread I was excited for Billy Dee Williams to become a Professor.

I don't know a lot about St. John's as an institution. Do they have the backing to come up with the perported $3.5 million?

This guy turned down Kentucky and the Magic and people expect him to choose St. John's. Really?

The institution definitely does not have that kind of jingle to throw around indiscriminately but it has been reported that a group of influential hoops alumni are raising money specifically in an attempt to woo Donovan. Remember, Calipari was begging for the job when they hired Roberts.

"On campus" being the key phrase, I presume.
Incidentally, it's officially St. Johns. I still doubt anything will happen. I would think that IF Billy wants to leave, he can find quite a few more attractive targets -- college and pro. Although, I think there is some ridiculous buy-out that Billy agreed to that applies if he leaves for a pro position.

FWIW, the "buzz" down here is that St. Johns may very well loft a trial balloon in the air, but it will likely be met with little more than polite interest. Personally, the future is fairly bright. With everyone returning except Dan Werner and with Patrick Young and Prather signed for next year, the likelihood of a consisten top 15 or 20 team is high. Also, Florida is in the running for 3 marquee point guards -- Brandon Knight being the gem of the class. Although I expect Knight to go to Kentucky after John Wall announces he's leaving.

From what I've read, one of the influential SJU alumni in the mix is the guy who started Vitamin Water and has made a lot of coin in the beverage industry.
Not sure how that translates into a big offer for Billy D., but Father Harrington is getting a clear signal from all sides that he has to at least try to make a run at someone with wattage. Then, if he ends up with a guy like Tim Cluess, fine.

Apparently, they found the money -- or at least close to it -- somewhere. On the noon news, Billy was interviewed and said he was "flattered, but happy where he is." The Johns offered "over $3 Mil. a year." They didn't say "$3.5" and then the commentator pointed out that Florida currently pays Billy $3.5 million a year. In any case, it ain't gonna happen.

St Johns has moved on to Paul Hewitt from GT. Seems to be his job if he wants it. Interesting choice if true. PH has NY ties and has had some success at GT but fans there are about ready to have him move on.
