Just back from the Garden - phenomenal atmosphere with a loud and vocal pro-Hoyas half of the crowd. The only downside other than the final score were the 3 yahoos from WVU who plopped themselves in the open seats in front of me and tossed F-bombs all night, punctuating the win by tackling each other and diving on top of us. It is a good thing my daughter got stuck in Philly because of all the Amtrak trains getting stopped due to switch issues in Newark because she'd be in jail now for murdering those idiots.
Loved the fight in the team. WVU's defense won the game, but the Hoyas' defense almost did the same. No shame in that loss. There are dozens of bounces that could have gone the other way and changed the outcome.
Oh, and Austin's shot is back.
On to the real tournament... one game at a time.

We all knew WVU was going to outrebound us tonight, despite our best effort. Sometimes you just have to recognize that their biggest strength is our biggest weakness. We never backed down, never gave up and got beat by a tough shot by a great player. I hope the guys will see that all Hoyas appreciate their effort, desire and fight on display. We play with this intensity going forward and we win many games in the NCAAs. We will NOT see a better defensive team this season than WVU, they are the toughest match-up for us when the refs let the guys play.

I said before the BET that winning this was harder than winning the NCAAs, because of four games in four days for us. Since we mostly play seven (eight now with Vee) and Austin's problems (and maybe illness for some of the others), the BET was going to be a struggle. Well, guess what, we almost did it, falling two points short to a very tough team. Now on to the NCAAs and win the whole thing! GO HOYAS!!!

Echo what everyone else has been saying - I am so proud of the team. Thanks for an awesome week.
Butler is an all-american and first team big east, and he just made a ridiculous shot for the second time this week. So while the loss was painful, there is no shame in the defeat. The Hoyas hung tough and gave the rest of the country a heckuva show.

For a game where we had nothing going for us (tired legs, no second chance points, no ability to run the offense under the basket, no breaks to be had, having to play at the other's team's speed etc.) our guys made an incredible effort. If we do this in the tournament, no one is going to be able to beat us. Love the HOYA Heart!

The simple fact is we have never advanced to the Final Four in years we don't win the BET. Or you could at like this. Everytime Georgetown's won 3 games in the BET they have advanced to the elite eight.

Proud of the guys. It was clear who the fresher team was tonight, but our guys battled down to the final buzzer regardless. Tonight was a flat out war, and the winer was going to be the team who could be more physical, crash the boards and dig out those 50-50 balls. WVU did, and they deserved to win. Forget Cuse's zone... that was the best defense I have seen played against us all year. I agree that that last play was defended poorly from a strategic standpoint. Greg should have never been the guy following Butler to the perimeter (it should've been Austin or even Benimon). Why were you so worried about the 3? Guess what, if he gets it, fine. How often is he gonna bank it in like he did vs. Cinci? I will take a three any day in that situation rather than allow a drive into the paint. CW's intentional foul with the score tied was a pure mental lapse for sure. But it didn't cost us the game. He more than redeemed himself by tying it up again with the layup. Had he not fouled intentionally, they would've ran the shot clock down all the way anyways, or taken a timeout late to set up a final shot. Had no bearing on the outcome. And CW was courageous all night. Listened to Butler's postgame at the end. Classy kid. I know we all hate WVU fans (and rightfully so), but I've got no problems with the kids they've got. They played the game the right way and deserved everything they earned tonight. This one will hurt, and I know a trophy was on the line, but the one thing that we questioned through much of February... EFFORT... could NOT be questioned at all tonight. The guys left it all on the floor, and I could not asked for any more. Time to regroup and start getting ready to dance. If the guys can improve as much as they did from early February to now for the next 2-3 weeks, it will be a March to remember. Just keep focusing on what got us to this point: defense, taking care of the ball, and maintaining an attacking mentality on offense. The rest will take care of itself. Couldn't agree more. I too was so proud of the effort and place no blame on chris....the kid redeemed himself the very next play and play balls out all game. 4 games in 4 nights and it looked it. Other than Hollis, all our 3's were falling short. As far as Butler's last shot, I actually think we did a good job defending him. Three guys collapsed around him, we almost stripped him as he went up, and while bobbling the ball, he threw it up and it bounced in. I actually thought he forced it and was hoping to draw the foul....it surprised him and everyone else that it went in. If we continue to play with the same intensity that we displayed the last 4 games....we'll be playing in Indy. Great run fellas!!

Apologies to anyone who I have run into on the last half hour. Yeah, it's a pretty low feeling right now and I cannot help but be really steamed over this, but rather than take up additional bandwidth, I'll vent via e-mail.

that foul by chris... that's a killer. have no idea what happened on that one. great effort by the guys, but some poor execution. im proud to be a hoya tonight, but this one gonna hurt for awhile. Ridiculous. He made up for it 15 seconds later. By trading baskets I feel better about the end game scenario, less time for them to get an o board and work the defense. Yes, in the moment, it was a bad mistake, but ignoring what came exactly after is absurd. That play was not a killer at all.

I'm proud as all hell of our guys. I didn't know until tonight that we're a better team than WVU. Obviously, tonight we weren't. That bodes well for us in the tourney.

This team has shown tonight everything that we have criticized them for before. They showed guts, focus, determination, heart and smarts. Unfortunately, they lost there legs to jump for Off Reb. Instead they were tapping the ball, hoping that someone Blue and Gray would get it. Unfortunatley, WVA was there for them instead.
Agree that refs called two different games, but let's face it. If we rebounded only a LITTLE better, we win this game by 6-8. Refs blew Awesome's 3 AND 1, they blew JV's drive AND 1. The JV's call turned into a 5 point turnaround.
Have to give kudos to the entire team. They played well in 2nd half and if a couple of 3s fell in 1st half, they are Big East champs.
I agree that Butler's last drive seemed like O Foul on Freeman, but they aren't calling that at that time of the game.
This team proved that they can beat anyone. No one above them wants them in their bracket. Remember, they get 4-5 days off now and then another one before weekend. Providence or Buffalo, here we come.
Great tourney by GM, CW and JC. Awesome has a week to get stronger. Should be the assassin come Thurs/Fri. Hollis looking better too. Go Hoyas, beat everyone.

He had a great game, and played with a passion and grit that we can all be proud of. he made a big mistake, but noone here and certainly not me is piling on in any way. thats just a mistake u dont make in a closely contested game. with that said, im already moved on from it, and ready to see where they sending us for the big dance.

Disagree on the CW foul. First off, he did make up for it and there is no difference. Second, you could more argue that it was a GOOD foul as Mazzulla is not a good FT shooter. Let it go. It had nothing to do with how the game ended because Chris made his layup quickly.

Congrats to WV. Huggy and the 'eers won a classic Big East Tourney final in high style. I feel great comfort knowing that the Hoyas made them earn every last bit of their big victory. Gtown knocked and knocked, but WV just never let us in. A great, great game. What can anyone say. It needs to be said, however, that despite the loss, this is as good a time to be a Georgetown Hoya basketball fan as there has ever been. What an incredible show put on this week by the Hoyas. They truly play beautiful basketball, and I think it's safe to say that they will be one tough out in the tourney. Tomorrow, let's wake up, attend to those matters that we've ignored during these momentus days at MSG, and we'll hook up after the tournament selection show and ride this all the way to April.

This probably belongs on the recruiting page, but if Moses watched this game and saw the heart his future teammates played with tonight despite being outrebounded by a taller and deeper team, he could not help but be excited about what he could add to this team next year.
