Great game. We played them tough, and lost a close game. You have to be proud of this team.

Proud of the guys. It was clear who the fresher team was tonight, but our guys battled down to the final buzzer regardless. Tonight was a flat out war, and the winer was going to be the team who could be more physical, crash the boards and dig out those 50-50 balls. WVU did, and they deserved to win. Forget Cuse's zone... that was the best defense I have seen played against us all year.
I agree that that last play was defended poorly from a strategic standpoint. Greg should have never been the guy following Butler to the perimeter (it should've been Austin or even Benimon). Why were you so worried about the 3? Guess what, if he gets it, fine. How often is he gonna bank it in like he did vs. Cinci? I will take a three any day in that situation rather than allow a drive into the paint.
CW's intentional foul with the score tied was a pure mental lapse for sure. But it didn't cost us the game. He more than redeemed himself by tying it up again with the layup. Had he not fouled intentionally, they would've ran the shot clock down all the way anyways, or taken a timeout late to set up a final shot. Had no bearing on the outcome. And CW was courageous all night.
Listened to Butler's postgame at the end. Classy kid. I know we all hate WVU fans (and rightfully so), but I've got no problems with the kids they've got. They played the game the right way and deserved everything they earned tonight.
This one will hurt, and I know a trophy was on the line, but the one thing that we questioned through much of February... EFFORT... could NOT be questioned at all tonight. The guys left it all on the floor, and I could not asked for any more. Time to regroup and start getting ready to dance. If the guys can improve as much as they did from early February to now for the next 2-3 weeks, it will be a March to remember. Just keep focusing on what got us to this point: defense, taking care of the ball, and maintaining an attacking mentality on offense. The rest will take care of itself.

Tough loss for sure. But, its clear that if we can play the way we did against USF, Syracuse, Marquette, and WVU in four days, we can play with anyone in the country.
On to next week, boys. Cant wait.

I agree with the posts on the officiating. Clearly the Big East wanted to protect the seeding (revenue) of West Virginia and were going to give them everything they needed on the margins to win. This game was won the first half when Monroe was mugged on every play and we weren't able to get a lead. West Virginia was able to control the rhythm of the game and at the cruciall moment-the kick out to Jason for the side open three-the refs quickly came to WVU's rescue. I hope this is intended as a joke...because it definitely made me laugh.

Full credit to Sean McDonough (did I say that?) for editorializing against the very poor game the refs had tonight. I think it's fair to say that we had a case if he is our advocate. Overall he did a shockingly good and impartial job of calling this tournament.

The 1 seeds are absolutely dreading Georgetown in their corner of the draw.

we fell a bucket short of another championship. Heartbreaking. we got killed on the boards, a crazy last 90 seconds, and Butler wins it for them again. But they never gave up. not for a second. 4 games in four days against teams that had already beat us, and all heart every game, especially Chris Wright. never prouder of them.

Sorry organic. Open wound and all.
I actually think even more of our team tonight than even the past 2 nights. We had so little going for us tonight and we still could have taken this one. I wouldn't have thought that 2 weeks ago. This team has a ton to be proud of and I'm concerned for my own health as my expectations shouldn't be this high but, damnit, they warrant it. Get your rest gents. You've certainly earned it. We CAN beat anyone when we play well. Let's do the damn thing. HOYA SAXA!

I feel bad for Vaughn, who was fouled out on a charge, two off-the-ball plays and a bogus block -- all in about 30 seconds of court time. It just sucks for him. The young man is reported to have th flu so you can't fault him a whole lot,but he was a step slow all night. The only foul called on him that I questioned was the last one. One silver lining from this game was Smith a small forwards ability to keep Monroe out of the paint by himself. the pro scouts will tell him that he needs to add more bulk and strenght to play in the NBA. An NBA PF would push him out to the top of the Key. Needs yo come back for one more year of seasoning like Jeff.

Congrats to Chris and Greg on making the all-tournament team. Well deserved. Hoyas did themselves proud this week.

The simple fact is we have never advanced to the Final Four in years we don't win the BET.

Macro-level, this game was lost because of WVU's strong interior D not letting the Hoyas get good or even any inside looks, bad shooting from the outside for the first 30-35 minutes (2-12 on 3's), and strong offensive rebounding by the Mountaineers. That's a danged good team. The Hoyas are, too, and if only two of those three happen, it's probably an 8-10 win the right way.
Did anybody else think Butler could've been called for an offensive foul on the game-winner, barreling into Freeman? I know Austin was bailing out a little, and the call a minute earlier was worse, and a ref would have to have onions to make it, but still...

The simple fact is we have never advanced to the Final Four in years we don't win the BET. Chris Wright scores in single digits when I wear my Alaska t-shirt. Superstitious nonsense that means nothing for 100, Alex!

Watching the last play again, it seems like Freeman and Monroe switch on Butler and Kilicli very readily when both guys come toward the inbounder. Would have liked to see Austin on Butler and make him shoot a longer jumper rather than getting into the lane that easily.
Tough loss. Time to start thinking about Thursday/Friday.
