In 32 minutes, Duke made 9 of 46 2-pt field goal attempts.

What I learned tonight: Duke Sucks, UNC Sucks worse, Uconn got royally screwed. Ok so I knew 2 of those things going into the games, but still.
Uconn should send that tape to the league office.
I was trying to watch the New Mexico vs. UNLV game but the #24 TCu vs. Utah women's game is now going into 3OT

Agree - refs have made some really bad calls all yr in games I have seen. But like someone pointed out, the Providence game was reffed by those who did Final Fours, so guess thats the norm...
Watching ODU play JMU. Man, they get after it on the boards. Can see why we struggled against them since that is still one weakness we are still improving on.

Terp fans must be licking their chops in anticipation of playing Duke. Hopefully Duke continues to play better at home than they do on the road. Still a win's a win for Duke and UNC is downright terrible. Ol' Roy did a terrible job evaluating talentand simply recruited every top 20 ranked player he could get his hands on. Dyson shot 7 for 21 against Syracuse. You know maybe that was the problem with Chris Wright up in the carrier Dome. He didn't take 21 shots. Stanley Robinson was totally invisible in the second half. This is the problem with basketball when folks get excited over guys llike him. He is a great athlete but a below average basketball player. He has no skills that are worthwhile in the halfcourt. Take away the fastbreak and the dunk and he is average. But we already knew that. Syracuse shot only 42%. Good job there by UConn because the Cuse is leading the nation at a ridiculous 53% clip. Georgetown is 3 in the nation in fg % shooting by the way. Is it an injury issue or is Wes Johnson coming back down to Earth? Hasn't been as dominating the last couple of weeks. If we play aggressive, if our big guys play fearless inside (Monroe and Vaughn are more talented and more skilled; they just need to be more tough); if Chris plays like he is capable (he is better than Jardine and Triche), the Hoyas should win that game. Syracuse only played 7 guys it looks like. Someone tell Hubert.

It's at least 10 Final Fours between Cahill and Hightower* too--Statsheet only goes back to 1997 and both have been working longer than that. Cahill and Hightower worked together on the 2008 National Title game. The clear solution is the conferences and NCAA writ large need to start training and promoting a younger crop of officials more vigorously. I know everyone's an independent contractor--but these dudes ain't getting any younger. I learned something on Statsheet tonight by the way: on the "Fewest Fouls Per Game" list, Ted Valentine and Jim Burr are #1 and #3. Who knew! (*Who, happily for me, obliged by doing his bizarre "S*** I burned my hand on the stove top!" motion when calling someone for palming the ball.)

mci, Wes johnson against PC did a full flip and landed on his back after getting undercut on a oop.....so i think that may have something to do with it.

Food for thought: If Maryland doesn't beat Duke on Saturday, does the ACC enter next week with only one ranked team? Georgia Tech (#20) figures to be on the outs at 17-7/5-5 after losing to Miami tonight. Wake and Virginia Tech are in the ARV list and playing each other this weekend, so one could make a move, depending on losses near the bottom of the polls. Weird year in the Big Six, with the Pac-10 taking the year off and the ACC having a Duke + 8/9 seeds kind of year.

Why did anybody even care about this meaningless game? I got my fill of watching a top ten team (a better one at that) handling a seriously inferior no-shot-at-the-tournament conference foe on the road when the Hoyas beat Providence on Tuesday. In all seriousness, GU-Providence was of equal or more importance for NCAA tournament purposes than Duke-UNC.

To be fair, Duke didnt shoot very well, but its not like we put on a clinic at Providence either. It was a pretty good road win for them and I still think they are deserving of a top 15 spot. Maryland, on the other hand, has to beat Duke on the road for me to take them seriously. They are still yet to win a good game this season, IMO.

I don't know where else to put this, and I'm no Pitino fan, but this is low even by the standards of the carnies who call themselves Mountaineers fans: Pitino's personal issues returned to the spotlight when fans in the student section at West Virginia chanted Sypher's name at Pitino during a game in Morgantown last month. During one of the chants, which occurred during a timeout, WVU coach Bob Huggins motioned toward the students to quiet down. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4905028

That's definitely a tough chant, but I don't see how it's over the line. It's certainly not like the infamous Steve Kerr/ASU incident, and I don't even think it rises to the level of some of the stuff Twerp fans chant at the Dookies. Ricky P brought this on himself. Slick Rick: If you don't want that kind of public embarrassment, go home to your wife at the end of the night instead of banging some random crazy broad on the floor of your buddy's restaurant.

Ridiculing somebody's marriage in connection with cheering at a basketball game is disgraceful, boorish behavior. I'd question the moral compass of anyone who doesn't agree. That the guy made a bad personal decision 7 years ago doesn't qualify as "bringing this on himself." That other schools also have animals who somehow qualify as "fans," much less "students" doesn't make it any better.

That said, I wouldn't chant it - but I also believe there was an easy way for Pitino to avoid being ridiculed like that. EDIT: As for your questioning the moral compass of anyone who disagrees with you, well, that's just such a lazy and over the top counterpoint that I can't begin to respond to it.

Texas reminds me so much of UConn. If you're dumb, and run, and basically make it a game of athleticism, they can play with you and beat you. If you're smart and make them play some basketball, they have nowhere to go unless they are hot from outside. Well said, and I think that is spot on, especially in the case of Texas.

While I agree that such insults are insensitive, I have to say that Pitino brought it on himself. While I would find it totally inappropriate to rag on Mrs. Pitino in any way, I think as a prominent public figure, Rick is pretty much fair game. If he doesn't want such treatment, then don't cheat on your wife.
