It is nice and fun to have great depth but having reckless defenders like Gaylord King and offensive stiffs like Yarou & Sutton in your rotation do not help you much in an NCAA tournament game. That being said in the BE tourney and the NCAA tourney moments arise when seldom used players have to step up. Just like in the 2007 regional final versus NC when Vernon Macklin came in and gave some very solid minutes. While it's far from ideal I can picture Henry Sims and Vee Sanford providing some solid play if need be.

Watched Villanova-WVU last night. Was not impressed with either team. Villanova fouls a ton and doesn't play defense. Just like their game against us. They are also small (contributes to no defense) and have no inside presence. They run and shoot and are athletic. But that is their whole game. That kind of one-dimensional team is a bad recipe for the Tournament. Those kind of teams without balance and defense are constantly losing early.
As for WVU, Georgetown would pick apart their 1-3-1. They also don't have a ton of poise on offense and were willing to run and gun with Villanova. Not that worried about them either.

I was actually impressed with WVU. The shot the ball terribly, but they are extremely long and athletic. I am worried they could give us some difficulties.

WVU is so long and athletic, I wouldn't dismiss them for a second.
They have length at almost every spot, and that kind of team can give us trouble. That being said, they have nobody that can come close to guarding greg, unless they want to try Ebanks on him. And they don't have anyone that can deal with Austin.

Not sure I agree with that Purdue blogger's argument about their relative merits versus us and some other teams ranked ahead of them that someone posted here earlier (pretty poorly argued article), but Purdue looks pretty good at MSU. Johnson is pretty good. Moore's a great outside shooter. Hummel didn't seem good enough to the primary scorer in the past, but this year, he seems smart enough to defer to them and as a second or third scorer, he's pretty tough.

I was actually impressed with WVU. The shot the ball terribly, but they are extremely long and athletic. I am worried they could give us some difficulties. You do realize they were predicted to be one of the two best teams in the Big East and a top ten team overall? Of course they can give the Hoyas difficulties. Its a no-brainer. South Florida gave the Hoyas difficulties. Now with that said can we all stop saying this about every Big East team? I think we all realize by now no game is a lock for the Hoyas to win so there is no reason to keep bringing up this point. And WVU's shooting from the outside terribly is typical. The 'eers lack reliable shooters and lack point guard play. Those are their weaknesses.

Best game I saw part of last night was VCU-George Mason, in which GMU came back late to force OT and started to pull away after Larry Sanders and Peschal...however VCU's center spells it fouled out. It wasn't exactly FULL at the Patriot Center but the atmosphere was off the charts. That's pretty much the marquee CAA game year in, year out these days and it's fun to watch.
The Rutgers score is just straight up sad. I understand they (hopefully?) put it in low gear and played a bunch of people, but when a 3-19 D-II school is within a point in the second half? Jeez.

Perhaps it was a trap game for Rutgers and they were looking forward to their next opponent.

An unheralded important game tonight: Richmond @ Rhode Island
Both 7-2 in A-10, even in loss column with Xavier & Temple and one game behind Charlotte.
Richmond is 18-6 overall with wins over Miss. State, Missouri, ODU, Florida, and Temple. URI is 19-3, but with fewer quality wins.

^^Cold weather will do that to folks.
Win or lose UConn has gone to the Carrier Dome and played like men, The Hoyas played like scared little boys.

Richmond beat URI and Dayton is crushing Charlotte, so the A-10 standings:
Charlotte 8-2 Xavier 8-2 Richmond 8-2 Temple 7-2 Rhode Island 7-3 Dayton 6-3 St. Louis 6-3
Maybe 4 of those teams make the NCAA tournament.
