Providence is scoring 82.3 and giving up 79 on average. Providence doesn't give up TOs and gets ORebs really well. On the other hand, their D is abysmal (esp. their 2pt D), and they stink at shooting 3s. Should be an interesting game.
This one's going to either be high scoring or, if the Hoyas' D takes over but the O can't hit, so painfully low scoring that we'll be wondering how Temple got to Rhode Island and into Friars jerseys. Could be close, could be a blowout. Another Big East road game ....

I hate playing at Providence. That place is a Hoya graveyard. Keep up the momentum Hoyas!!! Meh Sure under esherick, but we've only played @ Providence once under JTIII and we won. I don't look at the esherick years to see how we normally do against opponents or at certain venues. Only stuff under JTIII matters since the coaching and strategy/make up of the teams are completely different.

Pops had his troubles up at Providence too. I'm pretty sure our record up there through the entire 90s was sub-.500.
But your point is well taken and I hope the guys go in there focused and determined. If that's the case, I am confident of a win.

On D, box out Peterson (tough), keep Curry from turning the corner (tough), don't lose the off-ball shooters on the outside (easy -- help-D shouldn't be needed from the wings) and don't body up for silly fouls (easy -- this shouldn't be needed with our height advantage). On O, feed Monroe/Vaughn (easy, as long as we don't force it), drive near Dixon with our guards to draw fouls (relatively easy, though they have to keep in mind that Dixon is a shot blocker and dish if he isn't off-balance), and don't make lazy outside passes that can be easily picked off for a layup the other way (should be easy, but occasionally difficult for some reason for us). Win.

bottom line -- if we want to get a double-bye, can't afford to drop either of these road games this week -- these are games we should, and must, win. if shooting is off, we need to find another way to get it done...amp up the defense and take it to the friars. just go in there and take care of business. grind out the win and on to the next one. survive and advance. <enter sports cliche here>

Hoyas have arrived:
AFree_15 Landed safely in Rhode Island on the way to the Hotel 2 hours ago
At this rate, they should just stay in Provy and drive down to New Jersey on Saturday.

Ok looking at the providence roster and box scores this year our post players should have a good time. Providence has 1 guy over 6'6" in their rotation.
Hayward went for 28 and 22 in their two meetings Onauku went for 20 Gavin Edwards went for 17 Famous went for 17 and his team mate fitzpatrick had 12 depaul's little used back up center went for 9pts while koshwall was out. Ndiaye went for 16pts Sammuels went for 17 Browlee of st. johns went for 14pts harangody went for 19pts
basically any big man is going for double digits against providence. yancy gates and cincy are the only team not to have forwards/centers have big games
They play ND style defense( 200th in the nation) and are the 7th fastest paced team in the nation. Could be another 100pt game for us.
240th in opponents eFG% giving up over 50% 290th in turnover% so they don't force turnovers 295th in opponents off rebounding% mean while they're 7th in crashing the offensive boards.
giving up over 50% form 2pt range reinforcing my earlier theory 274th in the country. they're only 227th in 3pt FG%
We have to box out and play tough defense. If we don't guard they can beat us cause they score a lot. No team in the big east is terrible. I've learned my lesson about underestimating teams. Let's hope the team has too.

There is no excuse for the Hoyas in the next two games. Both are favorable match-ups to our strengths and regardless of if they are on the road, the Hoyas must win these games to be a legit team. The shots may not always be falling for us, but we need to find ways to gut out wins against lesser opponents. I still maintain USF is not a bad team and neither of these two (PU, RU) compare, but still the guys must show real focus on the goal, which is first round bye in the BE tourney.

I remember several years ago (I am constantly reminded by a PU alumn in my family) when they rained 3s down on us and won in Providence. That is my largest concern and I just feel kind of sick about this one. That may just be Chinese from last night.

I'd like to see the team look comfortable here because it wouldn't surprise me if we wind up playing first/second round NCAA games at the Dunk if we can keep our head above water and retain a top 4 seed.

I would adopt calling PC P-U except that Pops went there so it's hard to get too much dislike going. Plus the city of Providence has totally been renovated and does not smell too bad any more.

Note also that the Hoyas are looking for their first BE road win since the DePaul opener third road win of the conference season for the third time now. It would be difficult to have a lot of confidence about walking into Freedom Hall or the WVU Coliseum and pulling out the victory if we can't survive the Dunk.

I agree with your general point, but we did beat Pitt on the road since DePaul.

Strangely, the Hoyas played at Providence only 3 times the entire last decade. JTIII was 1-0, Esherick 0-2. Overall, Georgetown has lost 7 of the last 10 games between the two teams in that building.
Can anyone tell I'm terrified of tonight's game?

Does PC have an active board other than the Scout board? Sadly, I think that's it, and we're limited to gems like this one: "G-town plays a short bench and could be worned down by the end of the game. Run them ragged with a 10 man rotation in the first half." forums.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=425&f=1323&t=5594722
