Are you getting paid six figures (I assume) to post on the internet? I wish. Heck, I might even ask for a raise! But your point still backs up my point....paid journalists get "paid" to be at the event where the action is and then inside the locker room. Dudes on the internet don't get paid because it ain't worth paying someone who is going to dissect the game in his pajamas while sitting in his bedroom. The attacks were on another board. I was just grouping all of us fans as one regardless of the site.

Do you people normally read the sports page? If so, can you please direct me to all these wonderful columns that are constantly full of insite? Even St. Barker's articles (and I love Barker) -- which were NEWS stories -- didn't always illuminate. Columns are just opinion pieces. As for those who think the internet can replace first person news, ugh. For analysis, I can somewhat agree -- like I said above, ain't a lot of groundbreaking, original analysis being done for the Least Common Denominator out there. But none of us are getting into the locker room -- and there's no press conference without the press. I suppose some in the internet community can nurture those relationships, but I don't know why we'd willfully push away any sources. Co-sign. I dunno. Many on this board could sit in a room or on a conference call following a game and ask informed questions of the coaches and players that will get out of them what the trained journos getting paid to do that are getting. Beyond that, much of what the writers are doing is stenography, unless they're failing to put things in context like Barker did. Barker wrote many of his game stories weaving in the recent history of the program and the context of the season--his familiarity with these was what set him apart. The idea that there's no press conference without the Washington Post doesn't have to be true. And why couldn't DFW or Casual Hoya or you or whomever attempt to get a press pass to attend these things? Seems to me with Barker gone, they've got one more to handout (I realize that none of you live in DC from what I understand). The broader point is that the column at the heart of this thread wasn't worth reading unless one is a casual sports fan who didn't watch the game and doesn't particularly follow the Hoyas. For the die hards, stick to hoyasaxa.com, this board, hoya prospectus, and all other nooks and crannies on the internet.

Hamilton's article, no big deal, I think it accurately sums up many Hoyas fans' feelings of cautious, guarded optimism, because of the way we finished last season.
Feinstein writing a complimentary article on Calhoun the day after his Huskies play us at Verizon Center? Inexcusable, but yes, he has a long track record of this.
I think Post Hoya Coverage was best with Camille Powell, but let's give Liz Clarke a chance. Also, attacking these writers on the boards here can't lead to more positive coverage.

In response to kc, Mr. Feinstein has 3 decades plus of anti-Georgetown writing, a situation that is decidedly different than Ms. Hamilton, who wrote her first column on the Hoyas this weekend. Discussing the column on its merits is fair game, but personally attacking a columnist is hardly the way to encourage future positive coverage of the Hoyas by her or the Post. With Mr. Feinstein, the battle was lost decades ago. And unlike Feinstein she isn't ignoring the Gtown team. Feinstein did two back-to-back columns these past two days. One on Calhoun and the one on Karl Hobbs for the Xavier-GW game. For five years now he has done his regular area college basketball columns without doing one focused on Gtown. Plus while I have never posted any comments regarding Feinstein's looks I don't take issue with Hoya fans who go after him after I heard of that widespread rumor that Feinstein made fun of Mary Fenlon's physical appearance during a gather at a restaurant with friends and colleagues. This guy is trash. A talented writer I might add, but trash nonetheless.

ps i don wonder if she even knows about eating the bannanna just curious go hoyas Did you miss this warning? Strummer: further posts making fun of your perception of the columnist's picture and your inference about her physical form will not be tolerated. Clear? You shouldn't make fun of what she eats.

Our =BUM friend wrote that Calhoun column before the game even started, then had to tweak a few paragraphs after an unexpected-to-him Georgetown win.

She really needs to stop with the Jeopardy, truck-size, and American Idol jokes. Seriously, she writes like she has a cursory understanding of an issue, a vague opinion about the issue, and a few unfunnny metaphors in her pocket. She needs to either bring some substance and be a useful source of information, in which case, fine, the jokes can stay. Or she needs to drop the jokes and write dull, short pieces that just scratch the surface of issues but at least don't come off like she has an attitude.

Talk about damning with faint praise. If that mildly interesting, immediately forgettable, trite column is your counter to her "haters," she may be even worse than we thought.

At least she's being aggressive and taking a stand - no McGwire in the Hall. Her arguments behind it aren't really impressive. I'm still unimpressed by her, but I'll keep on reading.

Wow! We point out she wrote a crappy, uninteresting, unoriginal column about the Hoyas, and you trot out a column about Mark McGwire. Way to go there. Can you please let me know when she writes a column about the winter olympics?

Come on, it was right there! I had to!

I sat here thinking to myself "that's not the transitive property, that's the symmetric property" until I realized you meant "a big elephant" the second time.
