Well that's how we took down Capone. Son of Sam was parked in front of a fire hydrant.

. . . and I think it is possible that the announcer didn't realize that Roscoe only verballed. Actually, he did. In the lead-in just prior to the part I quoted, he was talking about what a great weekend UConn was having, with the big lead (at that point) over us and the fact that they had just received a verbal from Roscoe. And as for whether a coach should be punished for talking about a recruit, I don't think it's any less serious than the stuff that Kelvin Sampson got busted for. The rules aren't in place because there is something inherently evil about talking about a recruit or about sending a recruit a text message. The rules are in place to establish limits, arbitrary that they might be, beyond which it is determined that a coach establishes for himself an unfair advantage.

Wrote something similiar in the Calhoun thread but I felt even if Calhoun was healthy Roscoe would be considering his options anyway as long as UConn kept losing. Anyway I feel the door with Georgetown is closed.

If he is rethinking, we don't strike me as the sort of program to really get involved in jumping back into the recruiting of a kid that has verballed. Am I completely wrong about that?

completely right tas.....JTIII doesn't like to re-recruit players Well, III had no problem going after Chris Wright after Wright chose NC State and then decided to go elsewhere when Sendak (sp?) departed. But I have a feeling there was less hard feelings when Wright committed to NC State than when Roscoe committed to UConn. I don't have any evidence to back up that view however.

Also wright officially decommitted due to a coaching change. 1) I think smith may look around first while still committed and III doesn't play that and 2) leaving because the coach who you committed to left is different then leaving because you now think you didn't make the best choice.

I also think it would be pretty classless to exploit a coach's medical situation to poach a recruit. Sure, most coaches would probably do it in a heartbeat, but I like to think that III has higher principles than that.

I think Roscoe burned his bridges here. If UConn dropped its program tomorrow, I don't think III would jump back in.

I hope Roscoe calls JTIII to say he made a mistake and would like to commit to GU. I also hope JTIII sends said call straight to voicemail.

We do well enough in recruiting that we don't need to pander to children.

But these kids are children...imagine when you were choosing colleges, how hard of a decision was that? I'm sure there was 1-2 intangibles that made G-town stick out over some of your other choices. Even if you knew that you were going to Georgetown from the time that you were 2, it still wasn't an easy decision. Now imagine you have to include playing Div 1 athletics (not only Div 1 but an excellent Div 1 squad). Now you have to decide which location you want, what team you want to play for, what coach you like, what players you like, if that team is really as good as you hoped, if you are going to be able to keep up with the academic rigors of the school, if you like the student population, and even things as minor as if you like the food from the cafeteria.
There is a lot to decide upon and I am sure that the wants of a team's fan base is not one of them. If I had a choice between 2 schools and I choose one, something changes in that school (which influenced my initial decision), I would hope that my second choice school (which was probably VERY close to being #1) would still want me for the same reasons they initially did.
IDK about you guys but I haven't seen anything happen in this season that would change any recruit's thinking about us (except maybe the potential of the guys we will still have).
If Roscoe still wants to come here and won't be doing it half-heartedly, I would love to have him

Surely they must see that we're much more up tempo and we run more. Why are people still holding onto old beliefs? just look - it's there! We hardly score in the 50s anymore or even milk the clock!

what organic said plus the fact they're seeing that last year was a fluke and not a trend.

I think that last year was a fluke, rather than a trend, but I think it's still too early in the season for everyone to buy into that notion.

We don't recruit well enough?
The three McDonald's All-Americans, plus the one would have been McDonald's All-American, plus the Met player of the year all say hello.
Nate Lubick says how ya doin? Markel Starks says don't forget about me.
We don't recruit well enough?
Hogwash!
