anyone has any idea who the big kid was sitting behind our bench saturday? he was really cheering the team on during the comeback. I was wondering as well - he was wearing an argyle sweater.

I'm assuming it was Mikael Hopkins. He was reported behind our bench cheering for us the whole game, he was sitting a few seats from Markel some reported.

If its the same dude with the sweater I'm thinking of I believe that was Amadou. The guy was definitely too old to be a high school player and certainly didn't look like Hopkins (although I've heard Hopkins was there).

Pretty sure Hopkins was there but yea, the guy right behind the bench wearing the sweater was definitely AKD. How quickly we forget Explains why he was cheering so hard, eh?

Remember this kid was dominated by a player who is averaging all of 8.0 and 6 boards a game at Long Island Really? One game? So, the Hoyas must be recruiting that kid who averages 8 and 6 since ONE GAME over the course of dozens, means so much when evaluating a player.

"I'll always feel with good coaches like John and good systems like Georgetown, they'll get their player in the right spots," Calhoun said.
The above is a quoate from Calhoun in the Hartford Currant after the game. It always amazes me when these coaches belittle and berate JT3's system when they are talking to recruits behind closed doors,. but when they get their butts whipped by that coach and his system they publicly tell the truth of why they lost(good coaching and players executing a good system). Also in this same article, Calhoun threw Kemba Walker under the bus as being the reason the Huskies did not play well in 2nd half. Even though he had the power to replace him at anytime he wanted to just like he did with Dyson at beginning of game. I cannot see JT3 doing that to one of his players, especially a 19 year old sophmore. I wish Roscoe well and I hope he has thick skin when his HOF coach with a 3 year extension on his $3mil/yr contract puts blame for Huskies lost on him not living up to his potential rather than the coach and team having a bad day.

He is very inconsistent, an you will find him to be alot like Stanley Robinson was his first year. I know his game, you are going off internet chatter. I was hoping we didnt get him the whole time. if you sift through this board ive been consistent on that. As with all high school recruiting you dont know what you get until he gets on campus. I know they thought he was a player they thought they could make into something, We recruited a bunch of players liek that under jt3 who have left so I'm not saying georgetown knows talent better thna uconn, If you had seen the Maryland playoff game you wouldnt be so big on your boy trust me. he plays soft alot IMO. Oleswere parlyed that game into a look from us....he killed Roscoe that game. Oh and as Dickie V said if he is the best shooter in the country...man the country must have very bad shooters. He can hit the 3 yes, but he isnt what i'd call a knock down shooter. Thats what I'd consider the best shooter in the country

yeah i was very surprised when Dickie said that. I thoght to my self wasn't one of the things about roscoe was that he was an inconsistent shooter? maybe the ESPN guy saw one of his good games and that was it.
One of the most interesting quotes I've heard from JTIII was about how you never really know what type of player you're getting until you have them on campus and can start to coach them. We like to think that it should be so easy for a coach to recruit players that fit a style of play and avoid busts, but with the limited time they have to see and interact with kids, I realize it's a lot harder then I first suspected.

First of all, Dyson has been UCONN's backup PG. Otherwise it's Beverly, who has played limited minutes in the past behind Price and Walker. He wasn't going to throw him into the mix of Saturday's game. Exactly where did Calhoun throw Walker "under the bus as being the reason UCONN lost" ? Was it this line: "He has got to find open people and stop challenging everybody in the world," Calhoun said. "It's not going to work out that way. It's not working out. It hasn't worked out."
That's it? Come on. Otherwise, please highlight the quote from Jim Calhoun. www.courant.com/sports/uconn-men/hc-jeffcol0110.artjan10,0,901642.column

alexd do you spend all your waking moments lurking the boards of every other Big East team? congrats on Roscoe -- I wouldn't trade that commit for Saturday's W, I'll tell you that.
maybe you should spend your time breaking down tape on how UCONN can beat Gtown -- obviously Calhoun needs your help of late. and before you bother typing out a response about UCONN's success, nothing will convince me you guys don't have one of the dirtiest programs in the country up there, so I for one wouldn't trade places with you at all.

Since we don't seem to be able to discuss the subject of the thread (Roscoe Smith), we might need to lock this one up as well. Stay on topic people. Nobody here cares who the UConn backup point guard actually is.

Lock it. Roscoe's gone. It's like having a Dashonte Riley thread.

Re-watching the UConn game on ESPN360, and a quote from Dan Schulman struck me. It was toward the end of the first half, when it was starting to look like UConn was starting to run away with the game, and he and Vitale started talking about Roscoe during a break. Schulman said:
I think Schulman just reported a pretty clear recruiting violation (talking about a recruit before he signs an LOI) and didn't seem to bat an eye about it. Say what you want about how serious a violation it is, but I'm pretty sure that I have never heard a peep from JT3 about any recruits before the LOI.

I'm not aware of the rules, but do you know: Does the rule prohibit publicly discussing recruits in the sense that a coach can't confirm or deny a commitment? Or is the coach prohibited from even discussing the player's skills generally? Like if someone just says to III, "Hey whadya think about ____?" is it a violation to just say "He needs to work on X, but I think he has potential, blah, blah."?

You can't say anything, including commenting on IF a player verballed. That's why people say things like "Help is on the way."
That said, the spirit of the rule is that coaches aren't recruiting in the press, "Well, if we get Roscoe Smith, who is amazing, we'll win a National Title!"
This may be a technical violation, but who cares? Furthermore, I'd bet that EVERY coach comments to some press members about recruits off the record, and I think it is possible that the announcer didn't realize that Roscoe only verballed.

Going after Calhoun on this would be kind of like prosecuting Manson for trespassing, no?
