Perry was a different era... he ... endured... the Esh era.
JT3 is a totally different guy, different reputation, and probably knows Hurley from Princeton and NJ connections long before GU.
I don't think Perry's GU experience impacts this at all.

I thought he played for Pops.. At least that is what I remember... He committed to JT2, but I think he only played a half season for him, since JT2 resigned during Perry's first year he was eligible to play.

From ESPN:
"Kyle Anderson (North Bergen, N.J./St. Anthony) 2012, SF, 6-8, 200 pounds Villanova, Miami, UCLA, Pitt, Virginia Tech, LaSalle, Depaul, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Xavier, Kentucky and Florida are all on the trail of the skilled combination forward that can also be considered a point forward because of his ballhandling and passing ability. Anderson is a tough matchup on the high school level and that should continue once he arrives on a college campus. Anderson did his damage inside the arc with drives from the wing and by posting up, where he drew multiple fouls and made excellent passes out of the post when doubled teamed. He was also terrific on the glass pulling down 10 rebounds (five offensive), while scoring 23 points and leading St. Anthony's to a 62-50 win over Gill St. Bernard's. Anderson must work on extending his shooting range, being more explosive around the rim and defending on the perimeter but what makes Anderson successful and productive is his size and skill level."

According to ZagsBlog, Coach Brennan was up to see Anderson this weekend:
"St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin arrived with assistants Tony Chiles and Rico Hines to watch St. Anthony junior Kyle Anderson and Gill St. Bernard’s sophomore Jaren Sina. Kevin Willard and the entire Seton Hall coaching staff were there to watch the duo as well. Rutgers coach Mike Rice and associate head coach David Cox were on hand to see the young stars, as well as incoming freshman point guard Myles Mack of St. Anthony.
Georgetown assistant Mike Brennan, UMass coach Derek Kellogg, La Salle coach Dr. John Giannni and Cincinnati assistant Darren Savino were in attendance, too."

I am thinking of a more offensively gifted Jerome Williams facilitating offense at the top of the key, posting up smaller players for buckets, and passing crisply out of the post against bigger defenders within JTIII's offensive sets. This kid could flourish in our system...I hope he also sees it that way...

I'm not sure a Jerome Williams comparison makes real sense. The guy is tall, but has guard skills. More guard than Jeff Green, and Jeff was more guard than Jerome ever was.
He's a unique player. Frankly, offensively, our system is ideal. He can play SF and not have to guard the Chris Wrights of the world but still get to have the offense run through him.

I had thought Greg was the perfect prospect & passer for this system. Kyle might have him beat.

Yeah you don't want to get your hopes up about landing a kid this highly rated, but it would seem like our offense fits his skill set perfectly, and vice versa. He'd be playing for a great program in the best conference in the country close enough to home for a system that would highlight his abilities (provided he can shoot). Don't honestly know why he'd look elsewhere (granted no one should, but especially not him).

SF - Jerome was not used frequently as a guard under JT, Jr., but I do remember being stunned after he arrived at how well the 6'9" PF could occasionally lead the break with a better than advertised handle, vision, and passing skills. Dude was a really impressive, skilled player. He was a guard until he grew 6 inches in Community College. With 4 years in JTIII's system, Jerome Williams would have been called on to display his handle and passing skills frequently and I think he would have been used as the Point Forward as much as Jeff Green was.
So, not trying to be argumentative, but I see Kyle with similar size and skills that will actually be used and developed in JTIII's system. Jerome played with Ivey-O, which of course meant that he really didn't need to handle or facilitate on offense too frequently.
In any event, I covet Kyle. I hope JTIII does too.

There's no doubt Rome had some skills, but he had no outside shot in college, and he was that sort of skilled for a PF type. From what I've seen, Anderson is truly guard skilled (though his shot is weaker than some) and not just "nice for a forward." I think Rome had a nice handle, but he didn't have Jeff's vision or shot, IMO.
My point was less to blast the comparison than to point out how unique Anderson is -- and how perfect for the system.

St. Anthony's and presumably Kyle Anderson are playing in the Boston area tonight at Newton North in the first game of a doubleheader against Catholic Memorial at 6. Newton North and South play the second game of the Garden City Holiday Tourney. Nice piece on Coach Hurley in today's Globe with a passing reference to Anthony Perry.

Did anyone catch Kyle's performance vs. DeMatha on ESPN? I got pulled away unexpectedly and missed it. Would appreciate an assessment. Thanks!

Saw the first half and have never seen him before. To me he seemed like a high basketball IQ, smooth but very very slow player. I wonder if he could do the things he does in high school at the college level being so slow (if true and not just my impression).

If he were slow and small I'd be worried, but his 6'8 size gives him an advantage in some ways when combined with his skill set. He'll be a 3 by definition, but he'll play all over and fits hoyas to a tee. Put him on the floor with better athletes/finishers/shooters and he excels cause he'll get the ball to all of them.

Now, that said, he could stand to improve his stamina which would allow him to be quicker.

Plus, I'd bet that he's 6-9, maybe even 6-10 by the time he gets to college....he's only a junior
