I thought about the T some more this morning, and here's my take (plausibility still doubtful, though).
I was shocked last night reading that III wasn't a little angrier about the T. I know it's not in his nature to blame officiating publicly, but I thought yesterday's T was extreme and warranted a few comments from him about it.
After reading multiple recaps, many of them naming a GEORGETOWN fan behind the bench as the culprit, it kind of hit me. III doesn't want to address the T publicly and start a blame game, because it'd most likely mean throwing a family member or friend of one his players under the bus. Who knows, maybe if the fan's identity becomes public, he becomes a target at our future home games (the vast majority of us aren't crazy, but it takes just one crazy person for a disaster). III definitely doesn't want that, and now that I think about it, he absolutely made the right decision taking the high road. That STILL doesn't excuse Cahill for making one of the worst game-altering calls I've ever seen, but III wanting the incident to just die makes a whole lot more sense this morning.

III taking the high road should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone.

He should be eligible for some sort of Duke MVP award. Can he be interviewed and become famous like say, Joe the Plumber? More like Jeffrey Maier. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Maier

III taking the high road should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone. Agreed. Give me III over Coach K any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

While most posters say nothing can be done, I would expect that based upon the furor that has occurred, Mr. Cahill will be dressed down by the NCAA and possibly suspended for one game. If he is NOT suspended, this will only give credence to the fact that BCS teams are favored over non BCS teams in both Football and Basketball.

Good point, Rock.
Now, to flops.
It's part of the game; the most extreme flop that I have ever seen is a vague recollection of, maybe Gene Smith, pulling an opponent on top of him in a NCAA championship-like game. I re-call Biilly Packer clicking his tongue about it. It didn't work anyway.
And it seemed to me Rob Burke tried to take the flop on the weird technical call, pointing to himself.
It's like a player with no fouls raising his hand when his three-foul team-mate did the deed.
If you don't approve of this, you never played ball, at least not in the Bronx.

Well, a lot more people this morning do know who Jeff Xavier's brother is...including the Providence P.D.

hoops mccan, think what you want of omar's flops. They were flops. but they also were crucial calls to us staying in the game. I hate to flop. but if you can't beat em join em

JTIII will win a championship. It's destiny for a guy like him. If not, I'll still always embrace him for teaching me how to be a man and pick my battles.

rockaway - the fan who said this should have no reason to fear being outed. if he did say something that was so much worse than what the other 99% of the dookies in the arena were saying (which i find highly unlikely), the worse case scenario would be a bench T and the more logical scenario would be tossing the offender out of the arena. let's not imply that it was the fan's fault and make him a pariah - there is nothing that he could have said that hasn't been said by all of us countless times at college hoops games. whatever fans SAY, especially visting fans, should have no consequence on the game. the only person that deserves blame here is Cahill and having this fan come out and take the blame will 1) remove any doubt that it's monroe's style to do something like this, not to mention that he would not LIE about it to the national media, and 2) make Cahill accountable for a kneejerk, emotional and game-changing call that has to be looked into. unlike our star frosh center, it was Cahill who buckled under the Cameron pressure and did not let the kids determine the outcome of the game - he is a professional who is paid not to let this happen, and therefore needs to held accountable. removing any doubt that greg, or the Hoya bench, was responsible for this will ensure that the hoyas are the gentlemen we all knowthey are and point the finger squarely at cahill. nothing like this should happen again in college hoops, whether the hoyas are involved or not.

I agree. I wish the fan hadn't said it. I'm sure he wishes he hadn't said it. But it was 100% his right to shout whatever he wanted. We all yell during games. We all yell at the refs. It is the refs' job to react appropriately, and T-ing up a star player unless you're POSITIVE it was him is completely inappropriate. I would actually applaud the fan for admitting it was him. It would certainly help Monroe's image. And it will turn a lot of heads towards CAHILL. Anyone with any common sense would immediately say "What the hell was he thinking?!" NOT "That FAN was out of line."

So let me get this straight: Christian Laetner can STOMP on a guy; Henderson can PUNCH Tyler H and get him out of the game; and Paulus can annoyingly try to get tough and throw a punch at JS and they ALL are allowed to keep playing, while GREG says nothing and get's a tech. OK, I get it. It's college bb's version of the continuing BAILOUT - where the rich keep getting everybody's goods.

Just to add to that, it looked like from where I was sitting (my couch), that the ref gave Smith a warning when he was trash talking Summers while DS was at the free throw line. Would have been nice if Monroe/Fan got a similar warning before getting T'ed up.

I quick note about fans behind benches, in a lot of games we haven't always had opposing fans behind benches. There wasn't a single Memphis fan behind the Memphis bench back in December (including one guy wearing a Steelers jersey who was heckling coach Cal all game).

1984alloveragain...henderson didn't punch psycho t. He elbowed him straight to the face. I remember watching the game. I outwardly reacted over the play but didn't expect a call. Nobody should against duke.

Come to think of it - that dirty play led to my all time favorite u-tube: "THIS IS WHY DUKE SUCKS". For that - I liked it.

according to a quote i read, jtiii said cayhill told him that if one of the assistant coaches stood up again, he was going to call a technical. so, cayhill was looking to call a technical on us before he actually did. he just did it for a different reason.
