Just remember to lead everyone in cheers if/when Bobo gets his 1000th point. He only needs 7 points. I want to see a goddamn standing ovation and wild cheers when he hits the mark. Hell, I want a young, nubile coed to run out and give him a big kiss during the next stoppage in play...

Somewhat related... I went to a game at Maples Pavilion my junior year while visiting a friend at Stanford. They had a pretty great system in place, at least I thought it was great. Basically, to sit in the student section you'd have to get your ID scanned. scans received point value...early season crap games were worth tons of points, big games like UCLA not so much. the more scans you accumulated during the season, the better your seats would get as the season progressed. ie if you went to every game from the season's beginning, you'd be guaranteed great seats to the Cal game at the end of the year . it ensured that all the diehards would be rewarded properly...EXCEPT on senior night...where seniors got the primo seats. unfair? maybe. but, whatever, it's only one game, and, really, what's the difference b.t sitting in rows 2 thru 5 or 6 thru 10. courtside is a different story, but after that..
for the record, i never sat in the front row at a hoyas game. though i did get robbed in the fan of the game contest at the 4OT notre dame game...didn't get the memo about chugging a beer on camera, unfortunately.
- borat
*edited - i lied...i sat in the front row for the NIT finals vs SJU.

You were robbed Borat. I remember that all too well! It was a travesty...as it certainly was the most entertaining FOTG moments ever.

Instead, I made my point quickly and in very few words. Bong.

007 and others, See this as a challenge and an opportunity to get others involved in the team. Don't view it as a personal slight. We are all Hoyas and you should embrace the influx of new fans. Lead them in cheers. Lead the back of the pack in cheers. Make noise and have fun. This isn't about you, this is about Gtown as a whole. Smartest thing I've heard all day! I've always believed in two basic rules about being in the student section. Sometimes I don't follow them as well as I could myself, but I still think they're good. 1. NEVER make blanket accusations about who is a "good" or "bad" fan. They come in all shapes and sizes--and they sit all over the place. 2. Always ask yourself: "is what I'm doing making the student section better?" If it isn't, figure out what you can do to make it better.

I am a senior. I went to the first Temple game by myself. I now have over 20 friends who make it to the game. I have people who want to get up close so come early with me. I am happy about this. I don't think we should get the first rows, but giving us 5-10 or whatever is cool. It sucks that I have to say this but my class probably has had the worst run in Hoya Bball history so it is hard for us to get pumped about the games (collectively). Giving us a chance to get close I think will help A BUNCH in getting us back for games post-graduation. We don't DESERVE rows being held for us, but doing it for a game doesn't really hurt that much.
That being said, I am not going to be in the Senior section (because it sold out 5 days ago, how is that for excitement), I will be closer and dressed in 80's Hoya practice jersey and tight shorts.
GO HOYAS!!!!!!!

Ok, sox and watsonry, I can understand that you dont have to have face paint on and all to be a great fan, but why do you have to go the complete opposite way and start claiming that someone is an idiot and not a real fan if they do that stuff. You guys can think you're too cool for face paint or whatever, but I dont understand the mentality. How does someone look like an idiot for supporting their team that much at a basketball game?

Honestly, having the front row fans scattered around for one game is probably a good idea. I agree that it will suck for them, but maybe it'll help the student section coordinate their cheering better. If there's one thing I hate at the games it's when the front and the back of the student section are cheering different things at the same time.

You want to have the front rows be made up of the most die-hard fans who are always there and are going to make the atmosphere the best it can possibly be, especially when the game is being televised nationally. It's general admission. First come, first served. But wouldn't it be better for the atmosphere of the whole student section if the most die-hard fans were in the middle to back? That way, people can hear them?

I hope the seniors get rows 1-10 tonight, they've earned it with their years of suffering.
I hope HoyaBlue reserves rows 11-20, and say 40-50 in future games to get the whole student section cheering.
I hope 007 sees the light and doesn't sit in the front row ever again, but leads a renewed student section from the back, until 2007, when he sits in the reserved front row. On senior night.

As much as I appreciate Hoya Blue's energy and spirit in the first row, it makes it really hard for the kids in the back sections who feel stupid being the only ones cheering. Maybe some of the craziest ones can move back to coordinate a better and more cohesive sound from the entire student section. While it's cool to be on tv with your best friend, it's even cooler when they can show the entire student section in sync. Plus it scares the hell out of the other team. The job of the craziest should be to pump up the whole crowd, not just those lucky enough to get there first.

The first two rows and the blue wigs and the facepaint are not intimidating - GUHoya2007, do you think that Craig Smith is really afraid of you in your blue wig? Come on man, that dude would eat you for breakfast and use the rest of your friends for lunch and dinner. What rattles a visiting team and shakes the rafters is the section as a whole, which is done no good by all you people racing to get to the front. while you do what you do for fun, it doesnt help the concept of the student section that much.

I think a new tradition of seniors getting reserved seating up front on senior night is a great idea, we all want to see more traditions flourish at GU so I dont see why this one would not be good. As for people getting there early, consider this story. You are a big hoya hoops fan drenched in school spirit but alas you came to the hilltop during the dark years.
You are a Georgetown Senior and have paid over $100,000 for the priveledge to say that, and that is just in cases of Keystone. You have had a job all 4 years to offset this expenditure which does not allow you the ability to get to the games early enough for anything better than row 20 for most games and row 40 for Cuse & Villanofun. Wouldnt it be nice to get to sit in one of the front rows with your classmates?
This is the type of community building idea that GU has been so lacking for so long, things like senior night seating can help create the bond with GU going forward as people leave the hilltop and become dreaded "real people"
btw, someone said early that there is no senior week now. If that is the case i should stop payment on this years donation to GU. That can not be true. Where is the grassroots effort to save senior week.
First they came for the tailgate and no one fought it, then they came for the block party and we were too drunk to stand. Then they came for champs and we didnt have an ID so we didnt care. Then they came for senior week and there was no one left to fight, or something like that, you know how it goes.
also, stop jumping all over guhoya2007 and his band of face painters even if they are media sluts, he may be wrong about not wanting to give up the front row but people like him should not be discouraged from their mania about hoya hoops no matter what form it takes!
How about an annual Old Skool night like tonight, and you cant sit in the first 10 rows if you arent appropriately dressed? too much government red tape though, but i digress and should get back to work and stop rambling, this is probably longer than all my posts put together.

just to let you know senior week still does exist, beach week just does not exist in between so that should end that confusion. As far as most of your post I agree with it although I find it a bit wierd that you parodied a quote written about the Holocaust to refer to the taking away of block party. I think that block party should be brought back, but one less day of 4 hours worth of boozing wasnt something I necessarily feel was lacking in my college career although I did get to attend the last block party which was cool. Anyway, go seniors tonight. Fill the stands and get loud.

Good arguments here. One thing that probably should be corrected is any mention of 007 and media slut in the same sentence. You can't argue with the hard work that he's put forth with the t-shirts and his effort to get them to willing alumni.

Whoa whoa whoa, four pages of insults and mudslinging, and I haven't even gotten anything in. That's...different. If we had a REAL student section, a seniority system would be a great idea. Seniors in the front, juniors behind them, so on and so forth. The problem is, we don't have a student section - we have a section of the arena where the students sit. There is a difference. If we had a real student section, it would be between 500 and 1,000 kids for EVERY GAME. They start out in the back as freshmen, learning who the players are, who the opposing players and coaches are, and getting involved in the chants and cheers and jeers, and having a good time while watching the game. The next year, as sophomores, they move up a little, and help get the new class of freshmen involved. By their junior year, they're 100% bona fide fans, bleeding blue and gray not just on game nights, but over break when the team is playing cupcakes, they're checking the BottomLine every ten minutes, and not leaving for parties until after the game ends in DC (or elsewhere). As seniors, they've now worked their way through the ranks, earning their spots courtside. Now, there are only 15 or so front row seats (less if there's a damn couch there), so there would have to be a civil manner in which those fans with the best records of service (trust me, by senior year, those who are at all the games will know each other, and can police themselves) can all alternate between the first couple of rows. After graduation, they all seek jobs in the District in an effort to make as many future games as possible. That's the ideal system, if you ask me. Of course, this means we need a REAL student section, which means we need our own building. But that's a debate to have at another time, in another thread. And 007, TBird...welcome to the "Premier Level of Douchitude". It's a realm that I believe only I have inhabited, and there is plenty of room for more. There can be much honor in Editedness. Congratulations.
