You know there are gonna be some homer calls. Given. We're probably a coin flip at this time of year against them on a neutral site. I think we wipe the floor with them come February/March. However, with regard to the fouls... since we know we're going to get rung up, make the fouls COUNT. BIG EAST fouls. Not ACC fouls. Make them SCARED to come into OUR lane. That, as much as anything, is important in establishing the pace and style of the game. Give someone a reason to flop.

We need early shots to fall. Let's remember we are a young team and for many of our key players this will be the most intense road game they've every played. Youth tends to permit inconsistency, which can yield offensive droughts and disorganization (see Pitt). Like 'Cuse and UCon, we need to be tight and efficient on offense and defense for the first 5 minutes. I believe that's going to be the key.

Definitely, we got to get our shots down early, take the crowd out of it, and withstand any rush or ref baiting that may come.

Does Duke even have an Athletic 6-9 to 6-11 Big Man like Boozer or Brand that can stop Monroe this year?

Some amazing stats:
Duke will put its 67-game home winning streak against nonconference opponents on the line Saturday versus Georgetown. The last non-ACC team to beat the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor was St. John's on Feb. 26, 2000. Only four of the 67 games since have pitted Duke against a ranked opponent, including a 61-52 win over the Hoyas on Dec. 2, 2006.
Even before its game at Cameron Indoor, Georgetown has already played the most Top 25 teams (six) of anyone in the country. The Hoyas are 3-3 in those contests.
Georgetown, which has the nation’s toughest schedule (according to Jerry Palm’s RPI), has played only five teams outside the top 100.

Coach K is really running his mouth in Duke's press release-"Our league (ACC) is the best league, we have been number 1. Our non-conference schedule is the best...etc." Either he thinks he's got it in the bag with the refs or he thinks our guys can't read. He is really throwing down the gauntlet.

The number from Vegas looks a bit high (anywhere from Steve Young to Fernando Torres, depending on where you look).

Duke is a very tough opponent every year... anywhere. This year more than most. And they are home. GU has a HUGE challenge ahead.
If the refs call the game pretty evenly, I would give our guys a GREAT shot at ending the Dukies long streak. LET'S GO HOYAS!
SHoot the lights out! Bench -- we NEED you guys!
And Jessie is going to continue to show the senior leadership he's displayed all season -- despite the shooting slump. JESSIE is a CLASS ACT!
GO HOYAS!

As much as I hate coach hypocritzki, the duke floppers/floor slappers, and the geek squad student section they've got down there, after a quick perusal of their message boards, I am pleasantly surprised at the collective knowledge of their fanbase and generally respectful tone in which they discuss this matchup...they seem to think the game is a toss-up and that our guards (AF and CW) are very underrated. Also, they still have angst regarding GM and think that he will be tough to guard b/c of the all-around nature of his game. HOWEVER, this is maybe the most amazing comment from one of the boards: By the way, if Monroe takes a lot of grief and ups his game, two guys to watch out for are Mr. Sapp and a little known dude, Omar Wattad (I think that that is the spelling). Sapp will shut you down and, when things get intense, he has been known to find some game on the offensive end. This Omar kid, you do not want him guarding you, you do not want him on the floor when you have the ball. I do not care who you are. And, the wilder, more intense, things are, let me put it this way--you collide with him on the court, and you remember it for a lifetime. Those two guys, along with Freeman, present a kind of physical strength, a solidness, that makes having to attack them, or going for loose balls or long rebounds against them, a very formidable experience. (emphasis added). HAHA, thought that was an interesting perspective from an opponent re Wattad. here is the link: www.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13737&page=2

Clemson is #10!? I've got to start paying more attention. With UNC, Wake, Clemson, and Duke, the ACC must be the best conference this year, right? Right? A link on K: “It just seems that people always are talking about the Big East,” Krzyzewski said Friday. “I think it’s been more of a surface-level look at things instead of an in-depth look, and I think when you take an in-depth look, our league is the toughest league. I don’t think there’s any question about it. Their league’s great–don’t get me wron–but to me, it seems easy to see. We have four teams in the top 10, and the bottom teams, thus far, are giving the top teams battles and winningsome. I think that’s what we call a great league.” And more: “From the get-go, the Big East has put out nine teams, maybe 10 teams,” he said. “You’ve never heard anyone in the ACC saying, ‘We’ve got to get six, maybe seven,’ but why wouldn’t we say that? Why shouldn’t we? I think we should. But we don’t, and we haven’t done it for a while, and we end up getting four or five. And we say we were messed over, but you can’t start talking about it at the end. You have to talk about it as it’s going on.”

His players must be scared if he has to boost up the ACC like that. Hoyas are going to shock the world tommorow.

I posted this in the article thread as well, with K quoted a bit more extensively, but the Bilas kicker: "One through 12, the Big East is better," said Jay Bilas of ESPN. "And I think if you put a lie detector on every ACC coach and said, 'If you think the Big East is not as good as the ACC, we'll let you move into the Big East right now and play the rest of the season in the Big East,' none of them would agree to it." Also some Rich quotes in there.
