And if Duke goes zone, they have to contend with the Ultimate Zone Destroyer.

Key to game is going to be playing solid, disciplined defense which we have not done consistently recently and hitting our open shots.
There's a reason Cameron is one of the toughest places to play in the country. We are going to need our A game and a little luck. I think a lot of the posters are underestimating Duke by saying that we would win by 15 points a game on a neutral court. We would be lucky/fortunate to walk away from Durham with a victory.

I think that has more to do with how we match-up with them than anything else. Also, considering we aren't hurting for a signature win and this isn't a Big East game, this game is hopefully going to be extremly benefitial. For one we get to play in possibly the most hostile enviornment we will face all season, which will be great for our young team to expierence. Second of all we get to play against one of the best defense's we will face all year, again, great for our young team to expierence. Thirdly, we are (most likely) going to face a lot of adversity when Greg and Dajuan get into foul trouble and/or we are playing 5-8, which will be another great learning expierence for this young team. The best part of it all is we are almost in a situation where we have nothing to lose. I mean, yea if we lose it stinks, no one likes losing, especially to Duke, and we should want to win this game just as bad as every other game. BUT if we DO lose, it really doesn't hurt us, as 1) its not a Big East game and 2) its at the number 2 team in the country and we aren't expected to win anyways. I expect a hard fought game, that will teach the Hoyas a lot about themselves, no matter the final result.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as neutral court when Duke is involved. I think we match up really well against this team, but winning in Cameron is TOUGH. I hate that the Duke student section is good, but it is pretty good. I like this matchup, but I could see a similar outcome to the ND game if DaJuan gets in foul trouble and the bench doesn't play like they did against 'Cuse. I do think we will manage to keep it close and it should be a fun game to watch.

Yeah but it is hard to deny that a win AT duke could make this team truly believe they can beat anybody anywhere. Sure we beat Uconn at Uconn, but I think Duke is an entirely different animal.

Absolutely. They beat Duke in Cameron, they at the very least won't be intimidated by much the rest of the year.

the more important game was won last night...that said, if we stay composed and get around the same number of ft's we'll be ok. duke never plays zone. they man pressure the ball and overplay the passing lanes. AVOID SILLY FOULS EARLY. the refs will call everything short of us breathing on them.

I'm just looking forward to watching Hypocritzki, Wojo, and Collins the Cheater impersonate the See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil statue all night.

There is no pressure on the Hoyas for this game. It won't affect conference standings and will have minimal impact on national rankings, win or lose. Having said that, it would contribute to continued confidence with the youngins. Good opportunity for Sims, Vaughn, Nikita and Omar. With a big national audience, Greg and DaJuan have a big stage to showcase.
GO HOYAS!!!

i agree that the game means little in the win loss column, but i think it does mean something for the visibility of the program. gtown is back as a national player and games like this one matter when it comes to reputation and recruiting.

I bet the staff is studying the Michigan-Duke game. Coach B outcoached Coach K using our type of offensive system, plus a lot of penetration and mid-range shots from the Michigan guards. I will go with our guards over the Michigan guards any day of the week. We need our guards and DS to penetrate and shoot the mid-range as often as possible.

the match-ups im worried about is Nolan vs Chris, cause of the history with them. Chris is 3time all met if Nolan doesn't leave St. Johns. Scheyer is a tough guard cause he can play off the dribble really well. As long as DaJuan doesnt get into too bad a foul trouble guarding Singler we should be alright. Watching them play Georgia Tech. They still overplay on man and extend it out, which G.T was beating early but the guards eventually always wear down and get sloppy. If we stay focused i thinkwe can win cause this Duke team tends to go thru stretches where defensively they dont work hard, and their 3pt shooting isnt dead eye knock down this year. Yep, the Wright/Smith matchup worries me too. I did not think anyone was equal to Chris until last night, when I saw Flynn go where he wanted against Chris. Smith getting in the lane like Flynn will cause foul problems for Monroe and Summers.

I think this is spot on and makes great points. While people say they aren't worried about this game cuz its not the big east is somewhat short sited. Yes it won't help us in the Big East but a win vs the Dukies is definitely a profile raiser for us. Lotta people are gona be watching that game. A loss is obviously not devastating to us but a win will certainly be VERY nice

oldhoya,
Flynn is the best pg in college basketball right now. He's going to get where he wants off the dribble. He's that good.
That said, Chris was saddled with foul trouble last night, which limited how aggressive he could be on defense. That and we did a good job on Flynn, considering how good he is. We won't see another pg like him again....that is until feb 14, when we go to the cuse.
Point is, no need to think any less of chris. He's fine and will be fine against smith

The point I was trying to make is that there is no pressure on the players - they should be able to respond and do well - like beating Duke? As far as the stature or "profile" of the program, these are not the Esh days. Pomeroy has us as #7, ESPN is what, #12 and Ap is #13, all likely to go up whether we win or lose at Duke . Believe me, JT III has us on every opponent's and more importantly, every recruit's radar.

Flynn may be the most talented point guard, but he will not be the best until he knocks off the showboating, and especially until he stops trying to make spectacular plays when solid ones will do. Way too many silly turnovers for a player with his ability

As for Duke, we match up very well, with height, strength, quickness and intelligence. Absolutely no reason we cannot go in there and put it to them, as long as we stay focused for 40 minutes and play our own game. Take good shots, make controlled passes, and play tough D and the Crazies will be morose and moribund on Saturday.
