as i seem to remember it, we were right in the game in 06, and then came undone at the end, no? Kind of true for both games we played against Duke in '06, I guess. We just didn't come as undone the first time. ;D

I think it's appropriate to bring this out again, seeing as how it's time for another Dook matchup: kiki1-5.blogspot.com/ - some lighthearted Friday afternoon reading. Highlights: the Deloitte & Touche mudflaps the pinky Seth Davis and Stee Wojo catfight

A dirty little secret: The Hoyas have been floppers the past couple years as well. Sapp is probably the only guy left that tries it regularly, but Green and Ewing and to a lesser extent Wallace were big time floppers. Not as much as Duke, but it has paid off a little bit in some games. If Duke flops, we can flop too!

I just looked at kenpom.com - this has got to be THE non-conference game of the college basketball season.
Two storied programs having very good seasons, on CBS on the Saturday of NFL playoff weekend - this is a huge showcase game. And looking at the kenpom stats, across the board these are two of the best teams in the country. It should be especially interesting to see how our 4th-ranked offense fares against Pomeroy's 2nd-ranked defense.
I can't wait - and I got a good feeling about this one!

This will be a very very good game. Very tough for both teams. I feel like it really comes down to how we handle the pressure of OOC game this late, intense environment, and potential Ref perceived bias.
If we faulter ala Pitt and play that way - it will be very tough to win. If we handle the pressure well ala UCONN and Cuse and play the way we did in those contests - we should win.
Of course rebounding, running the offense (cutting with purpose) and concentrating on defense like we are capable of that doesn't hurt either

I feel confident about this game. Duke has a good defense - but it hasn't been tested, and when it has they have struggled. Their games against teams with Top 30 efficient offenses (Michigan and Rhode Island) haven't exactly been gems. They are a team that relies on open jump shots to win, they have not seen a physical, athletic team that plays disciplined field goal defense and runs an efficient offense yet. The game is being played at Cameron so I'd spot them 8 points for crowd noise and Cameron crap, but I think we still win this game.

Outside of Memphis (which subsequently became not close in OT), we haven't played any real close games this year. I expect that to change against Duke, I feel like it will go down to the wire and the final possession. I think we're the better team, but yes, it is tough to win at Cameron.
I haven't seen Duke play much this year, but they still don't scare me that much. Although a lot of the players have changed, I hope we can backdoor them to death like we did in 06 and during the first half of the game during the 07 season. As many have said already, I look for Monroe to have a big game against Zoubek.
Let's send home the Cameron Crazies to their tents in K-ville with an L! GO HOYAS, BEAT DUKE!

Average amount of getting screwed by the refs in Cameron = Hoyas Win. Slightly above-average amount of getting screwed by the refs in Cameron = Hoyas Still Win. Stroke-inducing amount of getting screwed by the refs in Cameron = Hoyas lose. I can't imagine we don't see option 3. I was having this conversation the other day with somebody: How do you as a fan of college basketball enjoy being a dominant program at least in small part due to BS calls and flopping? When gtown gets a bs call, even in a close game, it decreases my enjoyment of watching the game. Does this not affect Duke fans? Do they enjoy stuff like this:

Anyone know who is doing commentary for CBS tomorrow? Apologies if already posted. Ugh, another Cuse punk: Ian Eagle and analyst Greg Anthony will be on hand at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. to handle the call for Georgetown-Duke. Steve Scheer produces and Jim Cornell directs. To rub it in: AT THE HALF, CBS Sports' halftime studio show, hosted by Gus Johnson along with Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis, provides all the day's news, scores and highlights live from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.

That's a great decision by CBS. Let's put the popular play by play guy in the studio and send some nobody to call the game

Do they enjoy stuff like this: I am fully expecting to see the Mike Sweentey defense tomorrow on Monroe at least: get within 2 feet of him and fall down. I'm planning on swearing at the TV often, but hopefully the players can just ignore it.

www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/11268063CBS Sportsline has a preview video embedded in Gary Parrish's weekend look ahead. He has WFU-Clemson as his premier game of the weekend and, going by rankings, it is. But I think the GU-Duke game is much more compelling...while I disagree with Lappas, who picks Duke, a key will definitely be how C. Wright handles the Duke atmosphere, bringing the ball up and starting up the offense. He has shown some weakness on occasion with turnovers, so lets hope that he keeps his head and plays the way we know he can play...Duke forces a lot of turnovers so we have to be smart with the ball.

Clemson is #10!? I've got to start paying more attention. With UNC, Wake, Clemson, and Duke, the ACC must be the best conference this year, right? Right?

The DOOOKIES are currently 8.5 point favorties. To me that is a little high. I may be eating my words, but I believe that the game will be significantly closer than that.
