2) Until Redskins fans kill their coaches dog, Packers fans retain their status as the most wretched NFL fanbase The "crazy Packers fan killed Dan Devine's dog" story is a myth: www.classicwisconsin.com/features/dandog.htmlBut even if it were true, this is hardly sufficient evidence to support your ludicrous claim. Redskins fans are insufferable. I'd paid no attention to that franchise until I arrived in DC for college, and for the next six years that I lived in the District, I hated them more than just about any other team. No fan base is as delusional about their team's prospects. Every year they thought they were Superbowl contenders, every time they'd go crazy with excitement when some new big name coach came on the scene, and every year the same old pathetic spectacle of mediocrity (rarely) and utter failure (usually) would play itself out. Turner. Schottenheimer. Spurrier. Gibbs. 'Nuff said. Seriously though, the Packers fan base as wretched? You must be a Vikings fan.

I'm straight out of Jersey and strongly dislike the majority of the state. Georgetown actually does well in terms of picking the flowers out of the dirt. To take something completely out of context: a tree grows in Brooklyn. It is shocking how few horrible NJ people slip through when you compare it to those who go to UMD

I don't let such things get in the way of my hatred of fanbases.

I grew up a Skins fan, so I may be biased, but I don't think we're any worse than most other fan bases. I live in Philly now, and Eagles fans seem like the most obnoxious in the world (accd to the press here, they were supposed to be 12-4 last year). I'm sure if I lived in NY I'd feel the exact same way about Giants/Yanks fans, and if I lived in Boston I know I'd feel the same way about Pats/Celtics/Sox fans. Fan bases for pro franchises suck pretty much in the same amount, with a few exceptions. That's what you get when you have a cross section of society rooting for a single team: they'll look pretty similar everywhere. College populations, however, vastly differ in sophistication, and, therefore, some fan bases are clearly more obnoxious than others (see Syracuse).

Basically agree, although I think Philly has to be the worst. Consider the following: 1) they booed Santa, 2) They cheered Michael Irvin's career-ending injury, 3) they threw batteries at JD Drew, 4) they booed a dog that dropped a frisbee during a halftime show, and 5) they booed a new Phillies call-up when his first MLB pitch went for a ball. No way is there any fan base that's worse. Come on, they booed Santa!

So we have the notoriously tepid Californians and bougie skybox Westchester kids as our fans? Great. Don't forget pseudo-Southern/fake m Editeds combinations. As a true, dyed-in-the-wool M Edited, I second this analysis. Those fakers give us a bad name.

No way is there any fan base that's worse. Come on, they booed Santa! Total favorite Philly story. Almost twenty years ago (wow, I'm old), the Eagles played the Cowboys at the Vet. The fans took to pelting the Cowboys with snowballs. Now, the fave. It's possibly apocryphal, but ... apparently the guy that started that snowball barrage was Ed Rendell, a local lawyer. That gained him notoriety that he used to become mayor of Philadelphia and eventually governor of Pennsylvania. That's right - if you want to get ahead in Philly, throw snowballs at the Cowboys' bench. Hee hee.

Let's not forget Kerry's more embarassing blunder of giving praise to the mythical Red Sox great, "Manny Ortiz."

The moral of the story is, all of your hometowns are clearly inferior to the DC metro area. That's why you lot come here and never leave. And if you're from the DC area, you are blessed.
