Just wanted to let ya cub fans know that I went out to the marlins-cubs game this afternoon (it was a beautiful, yet hot day for baseball) and lets just say from what i saw, things aint looking too good for the cubbies. I aint gonna talk up the marlins, because quite frankly they are young, inexperienced, and uncapable of winning much of anything. Thus the cubs getting swept sure does say something of the current state of the team. Maddux looked pretty good till after he hit that double...I guess the heat got to him then. Btw...Cubs fans outnumbered Marlins fans by about 7 to 1, albeit there were only about 5000 fans there, if that. Dont worry tho, the few of us there made sure to remind the majority of the 2003 NLCS

I was going to ask if anyone joined you at the game. Can't they just move already? Go to North Jersey or something.

Day off today - at least they can't lose again until tomorrow.

Dear Jebus*,
Please let me be a fan of some other team. One that doesn't hate its fans. One that doesn't let .180 hitter Neifi hit in the 9th after he's (along with a little help from the "closer") blown it in the top of the inning. One that doesn'... What's that? No, I won't be a Royals fan. You really hate me, don't you.
Maybe you're the problem. Instead of switching loyalties I'll switch deities. I'm thinking one with lax opinions on sloth and gluttony. Buddha it is.
This is your fault, FormerHoya
*Note, jebus is used so as not to anger any actual deities. I need all the help I can get.

Thanks to Mr. Perez and Mr. Dempster for the gift.
Signed, Bobby Cox

I am no longer capable of thinking, writing, or speaking rationally about this team or this organization.

How should I feel about this? The Cubs finally won one, but they did so with help from Tony Womack. There is now a strong chance that Dusty will put together a Womack-Perez infield and the world (or at the very least, my head) will explode.

Ever heard the expression, "Golf is a nice walk ruined?"
The Cubs are a nice night ruined. Dinner of Beef & Sausage combo in the Stadium club. Goose Islands at same. Beautiful night. Good company. Great seats (big thanks to Gold Hoya, sorry I couldn't keep up my end of the bargain).
And to top it off, I got the see the Cubs get baffled by Eric Milton. THE Eric Milton. Even the Reds fan sitting next to me was incredulous.
On another note, through their acquisition and promotion of Tony Womack, THE Tony Womack, the Cubs were freed to trade one of their 4 2Bs. This move is an excellent way for Dusty to get Todd Walker back on the bench.
PS- what the Cubs lousy coaching has done to Matt Murton's approach at the plate is criminal.
PPS-if looking to get back to Bucktown from Wrigley, don't be fooled into thinking that the Addison bus to the Blue Line is a good idea. Suck it up and wait for the Red Line to North and take that bus. This has been a public service announcement from FormerHoya.

Imagine that, a soft-tossing lefty baffled the Cubs last night. At least the beer was cold enough at Wrigley to make my morning suitably difficult to face.

I wish we woulda lost the middle game. Winning the series in St. Louis is all you can really ask for, except when you win the first two, then it feels like a letdown...
Edit: I mean if we had won 2 of 3, I wish it would have been the 1st and 3rd. or 2nd and 3rd.

I would like to take this opportunity to officially apologize to Jacque Jones for the rough treatment I gave him on this thread in April (however, I was not among those who were actually booing him at the ballpark because at least he was always playing hard).
That said, I take back none of the bad things I have said about Neifi Perez and Jerry Hairston (good riddance, Jerry). They still stink.

It was inevitable that Jock would improve, as his April was much worse than his career averages.
However, it is also inevitable that he will fall back to earth, as his season-to-date performance is now much stronger than his career average.
Reversion To The Mean will be served.
(on the bright side, the same concept tells us that Neifi! is actually due for a few hits one of these days).
Unfortunately, I'm unaware of Jock's career mean for "% of time he loses a line drive hit right at the left fielder while on 2nd, and subsequently costs the team a run by getting picked off at 2nd as Ramirez loafs his tag-up from 3rd."

Maybe he injured it circumnavigating the outfield on that fly he misplayed last night.

Since only 3 of us read this anyway, nothing has changed lately, and this is our "home" to joke around without anyone taking us seriously, I will now comment on the "Changes to Mass" thread. (For those who don't know me please note I'm Jewish).
-- So just as I was starting to understand what was going on (as a result of attending 6 Catholic weddings last year), you go and change things again. Hopefully I'll still be able to figure out the part where I need to shake hands with people I've never met. --
(Oddly enough, during a Rosh Hashanah sermon last year, my rabbi commented that we should adopt a similar tradition).
