The Cubs hate me. I'm going to opening day, which should be good. Except Dusty mentions in the paper this morning that instead of Todd Walker, hitting .500 with no errors, he is going to start teacher's pet NEIFI PEREZ. Reasoning? With Maddux pitching, he needs better defense. Wouldn't Maddux actually like a little run support also?
You know the least favorite athlete thread? This is mine.

I just thought I would point out that the much despised Neifi Perez got three hits today in the Cubs win over the Cardinals.

I just thought I would point out that the much despised Neifi Perez got three hits today in the Cubs win over the Cardinals. That really puts me in a bind. On one hand since he is in the lineup I want him to do well so that the Cubs win. On the other hand, those three garbage hits (in his own words "lucky" because, again in his own words, he "isn't a very good hitter." Are cause in Dusty's mind for another 20 starts.

The very definition of a Faustian bargain. On a related note, is Dusty moonlighting at the Reds manager? Because that is the only explanation I could come up with for why Tony Womack is starting over Ryan Freel and depriving my fantasy team of stolen bases and runs.

i guess with the soxs (red and white) reversing their curses, its down to only a cubbies moaning thread. As long as you guys keep putting all your expectations of having a healthy Prior and Wood, don't see you reversing the billy goat curse anytime soon. They just seem incapable of staying off the DL for extended periods of time. Plus, i do recall that once upon a time they were both healthy and pitiching their way to a NLCS victory...(i shall refrain from bringing up Steve bartman..whoops already did)
p.s. Enjoy Juan Pierre out in centerfield. There is no player more dedicated to the game of baseball than that guy. He is a gem.
GO FISH!

Go away, world's only Marlin Fan.
After all these years, FormerHoya and I realized this weekend that our respective family seats at Wrigley are in the same section. I still don't like this team - Jock Jones is a terrible excuse for a #5 hitter - but I can't deny how much fun it is to sweep the Cardinals. And it's nice to see Lee get signed - now Hendry just needs to keep Dusty twisting for the rest of the year.
If anyone in Chicago is looking to blow off work/classes on Thursday afternoon, let me know - I will probably be heading to Wrigley.

I still don't like this team - Jock Jones is a terrible excuse for a #5 hitter Jones isn't a bad player if he's used right. Problem is he never has been. Gardenhire never got it through his head that Jacque needed to platoon. That, and he never got to play CF (where his defense would make him worthwhile) factor into a ridiculously frustrating player. The man likes to hit game winning HRs though. Next time he's swinging at some lefty's splitter in the dirt, don't curse Jacque, curse Dusty for being stupid enough to play him against a Left hander (especially if he's hitting 5th)

On a related note, Jones isn't a good player.

So who bats cleanup tomorrow - John Mabry or Angel Pagan? Neifi Perez. Or Jose Macias, if Baker can pry him away from the Mexican league. "You could have at least said you were from the Yankees."

The season is over. I blame Neifi. This was the same date that Nomar broke last year. Again, I don't know how, but I blame Neifi.

I blame myself, for actually thinking this might be a fun season after such a surprisingly promising start to the season.

To attract more attention to our little Cubs community here - Erin Andrews was at Wrigley tonight. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to "dugout box" seats today.
When will there be another FormerHoya sighting in section 415?
I basically called the Jock Jones homer tonight. After Murton's 2-RBI single, I turned (in succession) to my dad & the guy who sits behind us and said, "Jones has such a pronounced lefty-rightly split that he should be able to hit a righty like this bum (Josh Johnson)." --> First pitch, HR to the leftfield power alley. While I didn't say HR, I think it was close enough.

I can't believe the marlins bullpen handed u guys tonites game on a silver platter...Vargas was absolutely dominating through 6 or 7 innings. It was almost reminicint of another late 6+ run rally at wrigley field between these two teams a couple years ago...except that one actually mattered

I'll admit Gold, I absolutely didn't call it. I think I said something along the lines of, "Hey, Mrs. FormerHoya, watch this EDITED strike out."

my roommate just got a Sony 50" plasma installed yesterday. Maddux is even more impressive in HD.
