my roommate just got a Sony 50" plasma installed yesterday. Maddux is even more impressive in HD. I'm watching on yahoo. I need to get back into school.

Maddux is God. 5-0, are you kidding me?

Of course, after Maddux's gem, they lose the next two by a combined 25-2.
On a related note, my softball team lost by a similar score, 24-3, last week.
Of course, while we do have several girls on the team, we don't have Neifi, so that extra run wasn't too hard to come by.

Thank you Jock. What is it about becoming a Cub that immediately makes it impossible to remember that when a fly ball is caught, you must tag up before advancing.
Maybe playing right in Wrigley makes you absent-minded.

It's not just right fielders - remember, Moises Alou played left, and he got doubled up on the bases about 50 times a year too.
On a related not, Neifi had a hell of game last night - complete with a huge GIDP while also failing to get his body in front of a throw down to 2nd on a stolen base. When he plays lazy defense like that, I have no idea what his purpose is in being on the field at all.

Not that it matters, but if this Cubs team were a horse, I would have shot them by now.
Its sad that even I can find no justification to stay up and watch a West Coast Cubs game...

Well, last night you didn't miss much. Or the night before....or the night before that....or the night before that. You get my point.
To paraphrase Rick Pitino during his much-balleyhooed Celtics tenure, they stink and they suck and they stink.

Cubs just ran smack into the runaway train known as the San Diego Padres. I certainly would not have believed 2 weeks ago that the Pads had a huge winning streak in them. I was just hoping that we would break our 5 game losing streak, and maybe find the slow road back to respectability. But I like this way better.
Sorry Maddux, but the ghost of Tony Gwynn haunts you.

You know how sometimes Lic roots for the meteor? I'm not quite there yet, but I am rooting for a rainout every game until Lee is healthy again.
Absolutely painful.
Also, Dusty, here's a little advice for you. When your left fielder is in a bit of a slump, as in not driving in runs, bit he is still your best OBP guy, moving him to 8th in the lineup isn't the answer. Try batting him 2nd for your never-on-base CF.

Mssr. Batflip doesn't play because he's on a little roll. Dusty made sure to cool that bat off.
Seriously what's the worst that could have happened, a hurt Jock means that Dusty can't start him against lefties, so we would have won on all fronts...

You're welcome. As an added bonus to you, we don't get to roll over for any of your division rivals again until August - we'll be busy rolling over for our own division rivals, and those in the NL East, for the next few months.

Nice. I feel for Cubs fans -- you know you've had a tough history when you're the one team that Padres fans can legitimately talk smack to still (1984). You've gotta get rid of Dusty, for starters. Guy has no idea what actually wins games. Bonds carried him for years in SF.

All of you Cubs fans should have rejoiced yesterday to see that Billy Bob from Varsity Blues was the Nats starting pitcher yesterday! Livan looks like he should be driving an 18 wheeler not a starting pitcher on a Major League Baseball roster!
Can you say slump buster?

Livan is not a proper slump buster. At least all of Mark Grace's slump busters were female.

Lets follow this logic here, If Livan qualifies as a slump buster, and he gets in a slump, can he bust it on himself? A gross image, sure, but an interesting question...

Livan for the Nats in 2006 = Livan for the Giants in 2001.
Whatever the dude was doing in the intervening years (eating turkey sandwiches, listening to that Elton John song about him, putting quarters in his jockstrap, etc.) he better get back to doing it.
