A few things: 1) I don't care about the march. notice I didn't address it in my post, at all. 2) When did I or SFHoya call you stupid or disparage the academics of GW? 3) I don't think you're stupid. Just infantile. After all, you seemingly are in your 40s and are starting flame wars on the internet. As I stated in my post, I never once thought of GW in my years on the Hilltop. The only reason I give them any thought now is because folks like yourself are trolling here and your fanbase can't stop clamoring for a game with us. Not to mention proposed marches on our campus...to serve what purpose, who can say? 4) We'll have to agree to disagree on Syracuse, I think they'll make the Big Dance. Regardless of our opinions on the Orange, we have beaten Duke and Pitt, 2 definite NCAA tournament teams. what NCAA tourney teams has GW beaten this season? if we should be embarrassed by losing to a non-tournament team, surely you shouldn't feel a great deal of pride for coasting through a schedule full of such teams. done with this thread. good luck to the colonials in the rest of their season, elrod. maybe we'll see you guys in March and can settle the on court debate. Exactly. I really don't understand why people like HoyaSox are arguing with Elrod about basketball. I think it is pretty established that a) GW has a good team and yes, it is hard to tell how good because b) they haven't played anyone. Good enough for everyone? The point of this article wasn't basketball. It's the fact that apparently an entire university full of kids looks to us for validation! I've never felt so powerful. You know, you should read my first post where I agreed that the march was stupid. Am I stupid because I agree with you or because I went to GW? Or just because I think that my team is better this year. And Syracuse is not going to the tournament this year. If you lose to them what will that say? peace out, morons.

Syracuse has a better chance of going to the tournament than any other A-10 team outside of GW. Don't know how you can dispute that, Elrod.

Someone other than WG will win the A-10 tournament now that Pops is out. Mark it down, 2 A-10 teams in the dance this year. St. Joe's, Xavier, and Temple all could beat the weakened Colonials now.

Eh, I doubt it. Pops is a nice player, especially in the A-10 where there's a huge lack of quality big men aside from him. And St. Joe's and Xavier certainly could pull off an upset. But I just don't see the loss of Pops as gigantic in that conference. No one plays inside there, so while they'll miss the offensive mismatches he creates, it isn't like they have to worry about a huge defensive hole that someone else will take advantage of.

Cuse basically solidifies an NCAA berth with a win against us tomorrow. A team like St. Joe's/Xavier still has to win 5 more games (including an undefeated run in the A-10 tournament) to make it. SJU isn't even over .500 in their own conference at this point, and Xavier's RPI is 87. I can't see how Syracuse's chances of an NCAA bid are less than any other A-10 team. But you're right Jack, it's not impossible. It's just very unlikely; the odds are not in their favor.

True enough that none of those teams are very good, and I agree Cuse's odds are better than any single A-10 team, but if you want to give me even money that no one other than WG will make the field, I will take your bet every time. I am also certain that Cuse would have a higher seed than any non-WG A-10 team.

We'll just leave a box to collect their transfer applications. March 1 deadline, boys and girls. THAT would be hilarious. You just know this vignette would happen as the march came to an end. Now our intrepid marchers are heading back down "O" Street. G-dub: "Great march, huh?"WG: "We really showed them. Too bad nobody was around. Nothing but squashed oranges littering the circle around the statue of that priest guy." G-dub: "They must have been scared."WG: "Um. I think I dropped a contact lens back there." G-dub: "Yeah?"WG: "Over by the gate." G-dub: "Oh. You know I think I dropped, uh, a contact there, too."WG: "Dude. You're wearing glasses." G-dub: "Oh. Yeah. I guessed I dropped something else then. Yeah. I could swear I had a penny in my pocket a minute ago."WG: "We'd better go back." G-dub: "Okay. Did you happen to notice that stack of papers by the gate?"WG: "Yeah, I did." G-dub: "That must have been before your contact lens fell out."WG: "Well.....yeah. Of course." G-dub: "Since we're going back, I might grab one of those things--applications for something--I think."WG: "You know. I think I saw a box to collect them in, too. With my good eye." G-dub: "Wow. They even left pens for us. Those Hoyas really are nice aren't they?"

Good point, Jack. I wouldn't take that bet either. I was just merely comparing Cuse's chances with any non-GW A-10 team's chances. I think Cuse's chances are a little better than 50-50 at this point, especially with SHU falling into a funk and the committee seemingly less worried by the day (and rightfully so) on how to put 9 BE teams into the bracket.

Right now I'm worried about their mechanized infantry. They have an engineering school will solar powered cars. All we have is a solar powered building. Lets sacrifice the ICC. Call in Chuck Noris to blot out the sun, and leave them powerless. Also if we can get some troops to come in through the metro tunnels we can attack from below. I will be setting up baricades in my apartment in Foggy Bottom. I will then go to my neighboors (GW students) who played loud music last night at 3:00am and make them examples, by placing their heads on pikes outside.

By the way, Pops tearing a knee ligament...out only 2 weeks? I don't care how slight it is...I would be surprised to see him at all the rest of the season. GW Hoops may have crafted this '2 weeks' idea so that on Selection Sunday, the powers-that-be will not subtly slide the Colonials down in the seedings to a 3 seed (maybe even a 4).
"He's fine! Um, I swear."

Posted by elrod64 on Today at 9:48am:
The lowest seed we will get is 7th. Sorry that the A10 is not as good as it has been in previous years - you could say the same for the Big East, but you would probably not admit that regardless of fact.
New member here, so I'm pretty psyched to make my first post. It was either the ballroom dance board or this board, and this board won in a sqeaker (kind of like the 64-62 triumph the Colonials scored over St. Joes).
Elrod64 seems to be getting into the relative merits of the A10 and the Big East here. I, like most Hoyas, am quite happy to enter this debate. Let's dispense with the slander and go straight to the stats:
According the latest NCAA RPI update (http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/rpi1.html), the Big East has eight (8) teams ranked above WG, leading the A10 charge at #33 on the RPI. Not one to take anything away from the Colonials, though, I admit that this is a 3 spot jump over the week before; the NCAA will always give just reward for big wins over UMass (RPI 116, 3 point win) and Richmond (RPI 188).
So alright, Elrod, I guess it's pretty clear that Georgetown is playing against a supposedly depleted Big East (a theory about as sound Lamar A. Thorpe's major is legitimate). But with almost half (1/2) of our league sporting an RPI superior to that of GW, and fourteen (14) of its teams in the RPI top 100 (fourteen (14), by the way, is four (4) more than ten (10), if you were interested), then I'm pretty sure that in this "down year" for both leagues, the Big East is still at least eleventy-billion times more difficult than the A10.
Oh God, I cringe at the thought of an "up year" for the Big East...
PS: I include the numbers in parens just as clarification, so no one gets confused.

Guys, Elrod may have a point about academics...I have no idea what an opprobrium is.
And as for the costs of Operation Blue and Gold Dawn, will the $250 billion affect our bond rating positively or negatively? And if it's negative, do we turn the remaining forces against the bond raters (because we KNOW we will have leftover forces)?
I am firmly behind the "flood the Metro tunnels" strategy. Huzzah!

This guy in the article in The Hoya got it right. I heard that they misquoted him though and that he said "nice little run" and not "nicer run." And this is kind of off topic but he is really handsome too. Michael Segner (COL ’08), personnel officer for Hoya Blue, disagreed and said that the competition is a “pathetic and one-sided rivalry” stemming from the fact that many students at George Washington were wait-listed at Georgetown. “GW has had a nicer run so far,” Segner said. “However, we barely acknowledge they exist, let alone care if we play them.” link: www.thehoya.com/news/022406/news3.cfmI also heard that a similar quote might appear in the Washington post this sunday.
