Defensive improvement from last season to this season and even from beginning of this season to now is simply staggering. I think Pat has now earned himself credibility with talking heads, coaching and Hoophead community and with kids. If he wins tonight, he will have earned an extension. Either way, I think you’ll see an uptick in recruiting...which could not come at a better time with a top 10ish class already inbound. Parlay this into back to back super classes, and he’ll be cooking with gas. What we saw with Marquette game and then again with SH is that Ewing is blossoming into a defensive coach with serious chops...not unlike his mentor. I think he’s always going to clash egos with some kids, but if he can get his teams to play defense like this on a consistent level, GU will indeed be back. Teach defense. Recruit athletes who can play it. Trust offense to take care of itself. One of Pops’ favorite mantras was “Defense doesn’t have off nights.” God, it would be fun to be known as “that team” again. The fear of the Pops era was just glorious. It literally seems like I’m dreaming... I have read in more than one place that Orr gets much of the credit for the defensive improvement.

This could lead to some really weird results. What if a team is in the Sweet 16 and their opponent cannot play because of COVID? I guess the only option is the other team automatically advances to the Elite 8? A nice bye for whoever can get it! Yes they said they would replace teams from the NIT I think until the first round and then after the tourney starts of a team can’t play the other team would just advance. But I also saw that teams could compete as long as they had 5 healthy players so not sure how that will work with contact tracing, testing, etc. The four #1 NIT seeds are the 4 COVID standbys. That only applies until Tuesday, after that a COVID positive gives a bye to the opponent. The crazy thing I just heard - if a team goes out with COVID by Tuesday, the NIT #1 that replaces it gets the same seed. So if Gonzaga tests positive on Monday, the 46th best at-large team in the country becomes the #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

One thing (among many) that I love about Jamorko that comes out in that clip; when he hits a shot, he doesn't flex or pound his chest - he turns and runs down court to play defense. That's a pro. Lol- I’ve wanted to strut around the house flexing like DFH (Dante freaking Harris) all morning. The Board will require pictures.

So rewatching the Seton Hall game, I wonder if removing Blair from the starting lineup was based on putting him in his highest and best use as a 6th man. Also, it is clear he has been working Tim on feeding him at the rim on drives. There have been 4 instances over the last 2 games in which Blair fed Tim within a foot of the rim. No one else has attempted this. Maybe rotations were adjusted because Blair was the best combo for Tim making him a more effective player when he is on the floor. It is not like Carey is blowing up the last few games. I think it is an adjustment in search of a marginal improvement. Of course it was. He is not still being punished. Patrick needs that spark to kickstart the offense when it struggles. Jahvon is all in on his role at this point. Oh, and he has actually struggled a little with his shot the last couple if games. So LOOK OUT Creighton, he is due for about 20 tonight.

What an uplifting, heart pounding, joyous end of the season run.
Only one thing left to do.
Dance.

My biggest concern with Pat was whether he could relate to and "reach" college men as a former NBA coach. Putting Xs and Os aside, the on-court performance of these college kids tell me he has been successful. This is true regardless of wins and losses. The effort is there. When you take into account the recent events including transfers and the pandemic it's even more evident. Bingo.

I didn't really have a preference as to who we'd play tomorrow, but I was getting a little queasy with the thought of UConn just walking back in and winning the BET. It shouldn't be that easy, and it's not. Absolutely right!

Decourcy said pretty much the same thing between games - except he has Syracuse as first team out so Hoyas will knock them out directly.

Not for nothing, but
Mike Anderson 10-10 in Big East games this season, hoping for NIT bid
Patrick Ewing 10-9 in Big East games and playing for an NCAA bid
😉😁

It could be me being caught in the heat of the moment, but that's gotta be one of the best, most complete single-game performances from a player in the Ewing era. Shut down the co-player of the year and dropped 19 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks It's not just being caught up in the moment. It is absolutely right. So incredibly happy for a young man who has worked hard and been a positive influence and great representative of Georgetown for 4 years. Hoya Saxa Jamorko.
