I thought the Big East had a 6k minimum for conference games? Is that not true?

I’d say he is deliberately running a crooked program. KU president should be ashamed of himself as well. On a side note, still pretty quiet from the talking heads at ESPN On another side note, your avatar picture is one of my favorites on the board. I love that pic. Well done.

Very frustrating loss in the 2nd round of the NIT to Duquesne. With Mikayla Venson injuring her foot in the game against Delaware, the Hoyas were down to a six-woman rotation. With Venson, I think they'd have pulled it out. As it was, they faced a 25-7 team that had a gameplan, stuck with it, and was able to prevail. For the Hoyas...well, Coach Howard put it bluntly in the postgame: "We left a lot of good opportunities on the floor from free throws to layups at the rim." Soo many missed layups, and way too many points left at the charity stripe. On the other side, it took the Hoyas too long to recognize that the Dukes (Dukettes? Dames?) only had 2 shooters and they just needed to key in on them at all times. A few adjustments here and there, and the Hoyas would be moving on to yet another rematch with St. John's. 16-16 on the season, with some notable highs in addition to the expected lows. Personally, I recommend getting in on the ground floor of the bandwagon early - this program is going places. It really was frustrating. If we made even half of the uncontested missed layups we would have won going away.

It is incredible to me that not every single poster on this board at this point cannot agree that the OOC schedule this year was a complete and utter disaster on every front. Do you really believe that the OOC schedule gave us the ability to “hang” with the schools that we choked away half a dozen games against? Choked away half a dozen games? Hmmmm. We have no backcourt. Think about that for a second. We have no backcourt. A major college basketball program that lacks a backcourt. And that is no offense to the guys we have. They are all good guys and give it their all. We have 2 guys on our roster that would start for other schools in our conference. Outside of that, the other major contributors are 2 true freshman who our coach, in a pinch, was able to land them in a brief recruiting window due to his late hire. Thankfully, those 2 true freshman were able to contribute at times during the season. That is it. The rest of the guys are role players, who most likely wouldn't see playing time at most major schools. That is what our coach had to work with. So yeah, since the cupboard is bare and the competitive self-esteem of the program is low after two consecutive losing seasons, you make a light schedule to acclimate yourself to the college game and get your players acclimated to your program and how you want to play. The fact that we were even in the "choked" games and had leads given those circumstances is a testament to coach Ewing. I thought PE actually did a tremendous job this year other than the OOC schedule, and I am very excited with him at the helm going forward. My post was in direct response to your comment suggesting that perhaps the horrific OOC was responsible for our 5 wins in the BE. My opinion is that it was not, in any way.

Do you really believe that the OOC schedule gave us the ability to “hang” with the schools that we choked away half a dozen games against? Dude....this was the expected outcome whether we played a soft OOC of not. We play the schedule you want and we are 4-26, we look like Pitt, and we won’t be able to land a single G** D*** recruit worth having. You are missing my point. I have no idea whether the BE season would have gone differently had we played a tougher OOC schedule. But I contest the notion that the OOC in any way helped with what little success we had in the BE season (whether the one good week of SH/Butler or being able to play competitively in many games). In my opinion the OOC schedule had not a single redeeming quality (and as an aside, I was at in person every single one of those games in Nov/DC - every one). I am just surprised not everyone agrees with that and there are still people suggesting the OOC schedule helped in some way or another. And you, like most schedule defenders, completely miss the mark about what I would have rather had. Not a JT III pre-BE slate, but rather just a schedule that was not a huge, embarrassing news story itself for the first two months of the season. Agree to disagree I guess.

Hopefully not. I truly believe this team suffered from not facing tough challenges earlier in the year. I know all the arguments for the powder puff schedule, but still think that it hurt more than helped these kids. It was fool’s gold. Look at Kaleb—he literally disappeared in the conference season after an impressive first 8-9 games. OOC had nothing do with it. You could make the argument the scheduled helped us to win 5 Big East games this year, given our deficiencies. Gave us the confidence to at least hang with the bigger schools in games. Kaleb disappeared because he played against better competition. Kaleb is what he is. Same with Mulmore and Dickerson. How do you explain Marcus's play or Pickett's? They faced the same competition as Kaleb in the OOC. It is incredible to me that not every single poster on this board at this point cannot agree that the OOC schedule this year was a complete and utter disaster on every front. Do you really believe that the OOC schedule gave us the ability to “hang” with the schools that we choked away half a dozen games against?

Is the five of Moseley, Mulmore, Kaleb, Walker and Blair possibly the worst offensive team Georgetown has ever had on the floor together? I think we would need to go back and look very closely at some of the lineups from roughly 1998-2003 to answer this.

Anybody still wondering why Walker doesn't play more? I don’t think since no one has called for that in a month since we started playing better.

Usual screwing by the refs. Provy can push defender off, we can't. Exactly. Cartwright pushes off with his forearm dramatically every drive

He has no inside game till this year. No hook shot, no fakes. Ewing has really coached him up down low. Turned him into s post back injury LArry Johnson. Derrickson shot 63.7% from two last Big East conference season. He had a lot less attempts though - so I am not sure I would say he had no inside game. But, there's no doubt Derrickson's down low game has gotten better since last year, and he's had a lot more shot opportunities since Peak/Pryor aren't here this year. As I said before, he's generally progressed and improved every year. It'll be exciting to see how he improves his senior year. I enjoy your posts very much and I think you add a lot to the Board. But you need to stop with this. Marcus Derrickson is a completely different player this year. The change from the last two years is astonishing actually. You can continue to suggest that he has "generally progressed and improved every year," but you lose credibility each time you say it (at least in my mind).

An article was posted to ESPN.com about 15 minutes ago suggesting that there are FBI wiretaps that show Arizona coach Sean Miller discussing a $100,000 payment to secure recruit DeAndre Ayton.

Interesting thoughts. But, some of what he says beyond "other factors" considered actually does involve the non-conference schedule: "How you did against other tournament caliber teams" - If you play awful OOC teams, there is no chance you will beat any tournament teams outside your conference. "Did you win the games you were supposed to win?" - Again, if you win solid OOC games, it's going to matter. I understand his overall point, and I am sure there is merit to it. I agree that conference performance, overall, is the most important factor. Again, I think the issue with non conference scheduling arises more when your team is on the bubble. Sure, a team like Villanova or Duke could play an awful OOC and still make the tournament, but when you are on the bubble, all of these factors matter a lot more in differentiating teams. I would further add that when you get toward bubble teams, things like how you do against other tournament caliber teams means a lot. Getting a few decent OOC wins can be beneficial in that sense when the decisions are close, too. And, in the past, the NCAA has clearly weighed strength of schedule when assigning seeds (Georgetown got a 3 seed going 10-8 in the Big East in 2011, for example), and I don't expect that to change. Lastly, clearly there has been a widespread trend of high major teams to schedule better in the OOC (which is why our bad OOC was so conspicuous). When you get to the point where most high major teams have decent OOC's, it's less differentiating because they are all similar. Weren’t we a 6 seed in 2011, losing to 11 seed VCU in 1st round?

I think fans need to be prepared fr the likelihood that Ewing will follow his old coach's advice and continue to underschedule in 2018-19. And as long as Georgetown continues to absorb growing deficits in the program and payouts to every MEAC school that gets in line for a check, there's not much incentive for him to do otherwise. You'll see a road game at Syracuse, a home return with Richmond, and a likely game in the Big East-Big Ten challenge. After that, what's ahead? Many of the holiday tournaments are already filling up and ESPN won't book a Big East opponent unless NCAA tournament buzz dictates otherwise (read=Villanova). With a little creative forethought, bringing one or two of the Big East expats for a home and home (Pitt, VPI, West Va.), renewing the Memphis series, or even the long-discarded local opponents like GW and American (no guarantee check required) would raise at least some interest in a season where season tickets may decline significantly thanks to the change in the tax laws. Instead, it's Alabama A&M, Coppin State, and lots of empty seats. This strikes me as a little over pessimistic, though I have my concerns as well. That said, there is a lot of “incentive” for him to schedule differently next year - most importantly, that our team should be better next year, and if Ewing wants a good chance to make the NCAA tournament, he really has no other choice. Also, as far as the November tournaments are concerned, the major ones usually have a Big East team because each tournament can only have one team per conference. I do think that unless they already have something planned that it could be tough to get into one, but it’s really something they should aim for every year going forward. Of course, we also have no idea what Ewing himself thinks of this year’s OOC. This was new for him, as well, and it is possible he sees some of the negatives to scheduling that way from a basketball perspective too. Or maybe not and maybe he will just schedule MEAC and SWAC. I also think there’s a better than negligible chance that our 2018-2019 team could be better than 2019-2020 (depending on the 2019 class - hard to say right now), so we need to take advantage. If this team can beat Seton Hall and Butler, and everyone returns and we add a few recruits, there’s simply no reason to play 300 level opponents. The team is better than that. How dare you suggest a DFW post is overly pessimistic.

C'mon guys, think bigger! Win the next 3 home games and 6th place is in play! I will confess I have dreamt about 6th place.

Keeping tabs on the SJU/DePaul game tonight and it's a tight one - The 7-10 and 8-9 games in the Big East tournament are going to be brutal, no-holds barred, intense battles. Winners of those games (hopefully us in one of them) will be very tough outs in the tournament. Right result for us I think. We want 7th and Depaul 10th. Better matchup and not at home. I agee and have been thinking about that exact scenario for a month. I have always thought getting the 7 would have the added benefit (in addition to playing at 7 Thursday rather than noon) of avoiding Nova on Thursday. It is starting to look like getting the 7 seed may actually give us a matchup with Nova. Of course all of this is irrelevant if we don’t win Wed night.

Some thoughts: [li]I can't tell if the team is just playing better or Ewing is adding complexity to the offense or both, but offense looked like it had added wrinkles today. The Derrickson pass to Mulmore was a perfect example. While we have been working all season to create good post up position, we saw multiple times today movement to create opportunities out of the post up. Before, the offense was often static when the ball would get dumped low. That's how you punish a double team, and while Derrickson and Govan haven't made those passes much this year, I also don't think Mulmore and other players have made that cut much before. [/li] [/quote] The Derrickson pass to Mulmore was my favorite play of the game. It struck me as something that was planned / thought about (in a general way) and not a fluke, which is really exciting and encouraging to see. I actually thought the defense was better last night - at least for the first 30 minutes or so. No?

Did the post count restart when the board moved over in 2004? I think we all need to pump the breaks a bit in our praise of Dan. This could be controversial.
