I just arrived in Milwaukee as well. I will be wearing navy blue tomorrow. I am also enjoying my first Miller Lite in Milwaukee. Very nice. Have an awesome weekend Johnny! Thank you! Here with my son and nephew. Two years ago we did Indy / Butler, which turned out really well as you no doubt remember. Last year we did Omaha / Creighton, which was almost a special night. Hoping for the best tomorrow. Win or lose, great weekends / memories for all. For me, memories better after a W.

So I am definitely not wearing the same shirt to Fiserv tomorrow that I wore to Winstrust! Along those same lines how about wearing navy blue? We’ve only worn them three times this year. Please, no aqua. I just arrived in Milwaukee as well. I will be wearing navy blue tomorrow. I am also enjoying my first Miller Lite in Milwaukee. Very nice.

I just went through all of this manually and Hoboken is correct that as long as Nova and Creighton win, we get the 6 even if we lose. All of the potential 8-10 teams (us, Xavier/sju loser, SH and Butler) all split with each other. So it comes down to who beat Nova. We did and the Xavier/SJU loser did but the Hall and Butler did not).

Texas is 33 at 16-14 Florida is 35 at 17-12 i don’t get that at all Texas is below.500 in there conference and has 17 wins and is predicted to be in the tournament. There's a good reason. They have played a very tough schedule (partially because the Big 12 is so good this year), and beat some very good teams (as follows, by KenPom rank): UNC (6), Purdue (10), Kansas State (25), Kansas (17), Iowa State (13), and Baylor (33). Many of their losses are "good" losses, to teams ranked: 8 (twice - Texas Tech), 13 (Iowa State), Michigan State (4), Kansas (17), and Kansas State (25). So, bottom line, Texas has played a much, much tougher schedule than we have. That's why a team with 17 wins and below .500 is projected as a tournament team by some. Exactly. People seem to be struggling to understand that your overall record and even your conference record don’t really matter. You need to look at who teams beat and who they lost to (and to a lesser extent where - and unfortunately for us it seems the “when” doesnt seem to matter anymore or as much).

OK, I vowed to stay away from this thread because I viewed it as a joke. I still view us as a real longshot. Like that filly that won the Herecomesthebride Stakes at Gulfstream Saturday while the 1/5 shot Breeders Cup winner from last year ran fourth. But then I saw a projection today that actually had us as a 12th seed, along with Seton Hall. I still don't see that. Lunardi having us in the second four out seems more realistic. If we win both games this week (unlikely) and one BET game, I think we have a pretty good shot. If we win one game this week and make it to the BET finals, I think we have a pretty good shot. If we lose two games this week, we have to win the BET (obviously). As the great dTRAIN said moments after the SH game Saturday, "we need to win 3 more games" I agree with you and him.

How could this be? Hoyainla has told us many times this year that James and Mac should never be on the floor together?

Anyone with a thought of posting to this thread in the next few months please be mindful of the near heart attack you are causing me (and I suspect many others) in seeing a fresh post to this thread. Peace and love, JohnnyJones
And to clarify: I understand this thread is about guys who have already left - but just the word itself upsets me right now,

Will be interesting to see how Ewing handles Mosely and Pickett the rest of the way. I think Pickett maybe a better start against Strus/DePaul and Mosley against Howard/Quette. I agree, but would be surprised if he takes Jagan out of the starting lineup Wednesday.

Got back late from the game so just catching up on the Board. Where is the love for Leblanc? 17 rebounds when everyone else was busy looking around or waiting for the ball to come to them. Govan played the worst game, in regulation, that I ever saw a Hoya center play. He was stuffed on his first lay in attempt and you could see he spent the rest of the first 40 minutes looking over his shoulder and rushing his shots. If there was any doubt that he will not be drafted this game should clear that up. I do love the way Mosley is coming along and I really look forward to him next year when we have some real rim protectors and he can do an even better job of jamming up shooters. LeBlanc was tremendous. I'm sure everyone agrees - and maybe there aren't as many comments on that because people are coming to expect that kind of performance from him, which is pretty amazing for a freshman. Strange comments on Govan after that game, especially considering you were there in person. No mention of his performance in the OTs, including some huge putbacks and rebounds in traffic against those same guys he was "looking over his shoulders against" in regulation. I have been hard on Jessie at times this BE season as well (in the privacy of my own mind and in private conversations with friends), and I understand you reference regulation and first 40 minutes, but just seems like a strange public attack on our senior center after such a great and exciting win in which he finished so strong. Watch the podcast interview with Andy Katz after the game. Good stuff. I agree on Mosely. I said this half a dozen times last night, but it was the best defensive performance on a guy who scored 35 I can remember. There was a lot of discussion a few weeks ago about how opposing stars often go off on us. I reminisced about what Dwayne Bryant and Mark Tillmon did to Dana Barros in the 1989 BET quarters. Our plan last night reminded me of that. When Jagan was guarding Powell (and Pickett for short stretches as well), he was face guarding him the entire time - barely watching the rest of the court. It was really fun to watch - which I know sounds crazy since the guy went for 35. I am going to Milwaukee next weekend and I am really looking forward to him trying to do the same on Howard.

This would be huge for our chances to finish solo third. Of course, it also shows that DePaul on the road will be TOUGH. My thoughts exactly as I have been watching this. Although I feel like Strus cant possibly do this two games in a row.

To those who focus on Akinjo’s shooting stats to conclude he didn’t play well tonight, you have forgotten how difficult it was for us to break the press in past years. Not anymore, largely due to James. I was at the game so havent been through the whole thread but are there actually people criticizing James in this game thread?

Mosely actually was doing a good job on Powell. He hit two long 3s (one that was tremendous D). He is our best chance on Powell.

Holy crap we beat Ohio State with only 4 guys scoring?! I think the win over Ohio State is one of the underrated wins of JT III's tenure. Everybody remembers the win over #1 Duke at MCI that season, but, in my mind, beating the second-seeded Ohio State in Dayton in the NCAA tourney was an even bigger deal. I agree. Someone made a comment recently about watching III's teams wasn't fun - and this was the first game I thought of. That game was a lot of fun. I'm pretty sure Ashanti Cook was at the game last night (sitting courtside next to Alonzo). I was disappointed they didn't put him up on the big board (unless I missed it).

I disagree. While never publicly, I have killed Kaleb for 3.5 years for poor play and, in particular, trying to do too much (usually ending in a turnover). I cant remember when exactly the switch flipped, but I would say for at least the last half dozen BE games, he has been a huge + and made a number of important contributions. He now knows his role and is a very important part of the team and our recent improved play and success. I'm really happy for him that things have turned this way. No doubt the result of a lot of hard work on his part. The post you quoted was from a year ago I agree he has contributed this year. Ha! My bad.

Seems we are struggling to find something positive about his contributions this year. Reminds me of what Marv Albert used to say about Marvin Webster, who he thought was useless. He said Webster was the best in the league at contesting the outlet pass after his man beat him to the rebound😁 I disagree. While the front page has no doubt had a negative tone for many years, and often innapropriately so in my opinion, I am pretty stunned to see these attacks on DFW. While I don’t know him personally (we have met at a few BETs), it is my understanding that the guy has dedicated a significant chunk of his life to Georgetown University and hoyasaxa.com. In addition to the commentary on the front page, there are also links to information and statistics regarding the history of Georgetown Basketball that you cant find anywhere else. It is incredible - and I believe DFW has pulled it all together over the years single handedly. And finally, for anyone confused about it, this message board is part of hoyasaxa.com. And it is incredibly well done (since 1996 I believe - I joined in late 1998) and in my view one of the best managed college team message board out there.
So I agree with the unfortunate negative tone for many years on the homepage, I would nonetheless say a hearty thank you to DFW for all of his efforts over the decades to make this board and hoyasaxa.com what it is.

I thought about this last night as well. I was sitting across from our bench and Mac was clearly agitated the last 10 minutes. I noticed him a few times almost trying to get Ewing’s attention on the bench. J Wallace patted him on the thigh a few times in what seemed like an attempt to keep him calm.

I am likely in the minority on this, but I am most disturbed by the non-sensical player rotations used by Ewing. I can live with the close losses. But, I want to see some stability from my head coach when it comes to playing time. How does LeBlanc play only 19 minutes against a Creighton team he should be able to match-up with physically? Why does Mourning get any minutes at all? Blair with 15 minutes and a completely empty stat line with the exception of 1-4 from 3. Blair literally had no rebounds, assists, steals, fouls - hell, he did not have any turnovers - so what is the point? How on earth does Ewing feel this team is deep enough to give 10 different players 10+ minutes in a league game? I thought about this last night as well. I was sitting across from our bench and Mac was clearly agitated the last 10 minutes. I noticed him a few times almost trying to get Ewing’s attention on the bench. J Wallace patted him on the thigh a few times in what seemed like an attempt to keep him calm. I get the whole, we play fast so we need to substitute more than most teams, but Ewing's rotations leave guys out of the line-up for long stretches at a time for no apparent reason. I am more concerned by this trend than anything else. As a head coach, you cannot be so insecure in your decision making that it changes every single game, and even every half of a game. You could argue it works for about 35 minutes of each game, but the importance of having a game closing line-up is absolutely critical. Let these guys develop some on court chemistry. I would argue this also hurts the team's defense - players need to communicate with a different guy every game and can never learn tendencies of teammates. The lineups are so bizarre that I think it's fair to wonder whether Ewing actually gets wrapped up in the game and forgets to put his better players back in. It's outlandish - an assistant needs to pipe up about this.

Who follows Howard around to keep him under 40 pts? My favorite example of this is what Dwayne Bryant and Mark Tillmon combined to do to Dana Barros in the 1st round of the 1989 BET. They shadowed him the entire game. Cant remember how many he had but he was really frustrated. Boy was that a fun weekend.
