Game day vs Syracuse… on ABC… and just 3 pages of discussion… apathy. Since my time at GU, I have never missed watching a Syracuse game live (in person or on TV). I’ll be ending that decades-long streak today to watch what will be a classic in England vs France at the WC. Thanks to The Three Stooges! On a pure entertainment value level, watching players like Mbappe, Grieszmann, Varane, et al take on Kane, Bellingham, Foden, et al so outweighs watching what is left of Georgetown playing the Orange detritus, it is not even a close call. One will be a game played at the highest level by the best in the world, the other will be in Syracuse…

They will be dedicating a piece of the court to Pearl. We need to win to temper the excitement and fuel rage. 🤣 I would imagine it is the spot from which he hit the near half court shot to beat BC.

The Robert Gates analysis proven true yet again. “Wrong on every major foreign policy issue for 40 years.” Here a dangerous arms dealer who has helped terrorists try to kill Americans has been released in exchange for a basketball player who likes weed. To say Biden got rolled is an understatement. I don't think anyone would call this a "win" in terms of comparative offenses. That said, an American (though, a divisive one for some) was brought home. That's a good thing, no? Of course. Wonder if she’ll appreciate her country now. On a positive note a WNBA trade got news coverage so that’s progress.

When your entire recruiting pitch is that you know how to get to the NBA, what else could you expect. He did know how to get to the NBA. Unfortunately, he can’t show anyone else. Ted Williams was one of the greatest hitters ever. He was a flop as a manager.

These teams are both so bad right now that a Chris Wright style Alumni game would be much more interesting.

1. In Craig Esherick's fourth season he signed a six year extension through 2009. 2. In John Thompson III's fourth season he signed a six year extension through 2013. 3. In 2013 JT III signed a second six year extension that carried him to 2019. There seems reasonable public information that at the fourth year of a contract for men's basketball, a six year extension is the norm at Georgetown, or at least the recent trend. An extension of only three years, however odious it is right now, could be considered a hedge against committing the University to six years along the lines of what Craig Esherick and John Thompson III eventually signed. I'm not sure these are right - Esherick signed a 6 year deal in 1999 that would take him to 2005, and then in 2003 - with two years left on his deal - signed a 4 year extension that would take him to 2009. Esherick was fired the next year in 2004. www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/2003/05/01/esherick-gets-four-more-years/6de01172-d280-4d3d-8b73-7d1055dcaddc/Given the fact that he had to fire two coaches (Esherick in 2004 with 5 years left on his deal, and then JT3 in 2017 with two years left on his deal) you would think DeGioia would be more conservative about extensions, but my view has been that he sees being fiscally imprudent and guaranteeing coaches long contracts gives them a barrier from public criticism and an excuse for why he shouldn't take action (How can I fire Patrick Ewing, we owe him too much money!). We're where we are now because DeGioia keeps making the same fiscal mistakes and builds in no out for himself or the University - it's almost the exact same situation as Esherick. Maybe Jack views these extensions as buried pensions… Given to these coaches, Thompson insiders all, in lieu of a gold watch…

This wasn't one of Barry's better columns. Not sure how far back he was recalling Georgetown with "just more than 3,500 undergraduate students" or his reference to "Try to find a ticket to a Georgetown game in the mid-1980s out at the old Capital Centre in Prince George’s County." Georgetown played 228 home games at Capital Centre, and sold out just 17 of those games. Average attendance in those 228 games was 10,550 per game, or 55 percent capacity. Just four sellouts total were in December and three were against ranked teams: #1 Virginia (1982), #2 DePaul (1984), and #5 Duke (1990 ACC-Big East Challenge). Even if you restrict it to "mid-80's" (1983-87), that average is just 9,450. Very true. And while Virginia would clearly have sold out either way, I recall it was a split house with UVA and not an actual home game.

I am not sure what depresses me more.
The state of the program or the fact that an article like this will have zero impact inside Healy.

Both have a shot, most probably to start in USL. Good for them.

I would also like to see a deeper rotation, but I understand some of Pat’s hesitation. Who plays point if you take Primo out? Murray lacks the instincts, Heath the handles and passing ability and Anglin a little bit of all three plus experience. Riley gives you nothing on offense that you aren’t already getting in a better way from Heath and Murray. He’s a plus defender, so I think he should always see some shifts, but he struggles offensively. Mozone is unequivocally dreadful IMO. Ugly, streaky shooter who brings little else. Bristol is competent at everything, good at nothing - meh. Only place I’d like to see real emphasis on bench minutes is inside - Q has regressed for sure; he’s a lousy finisher with poor hands, not a good rebounder and perhaps the worst on-ball defender on the squad. Bradley should see as many minutes as he can legitimately earn and Ryan should get Riley-esque mini-shifts. Q is fool’s gold imo - yes, he is the most likely to get consistent decent looks on the offensive end. But he is vert inefficient at converting them due to a combination of really bad hands, dubious footwork, poor touch and indifferent want-to. And on the defensive end, WOW; his best is barely passable and his average is very poor. Well, Ewing (or COS RT?) put together this transfer roster. And with no Dante Harris, what did he expect? The ultimate responsibility for the lack of depth still lies with Ewing, right? Not in the TAC Bizarro world. Pat the Coach is not responsible for the roster; Pat the GM is not responsible for the Coach’s inability to teach or scheme. Fredo is not responsible for anything except cashing his check and protecting his cronies.

Right. Why would anyone hire someone who engaged in extra-marital sex in a public place? I see what you did there. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Apparently many people saw what he did there….

Maybe Pat can channel his inner Big John and get run with two technicals.
Then after the kids scrap their way to late lead, Jay Heath (ludicrous late foul practitioner) can channel his inner Sam Jefferson and commit a foul 80 feet from the basket to blow the game.

All those folks disguised as empty seats were sure happy to get their free tickets last night.
