If Lampkin was the first domino we were expecting, color me unimpressed. I get that we are looking for a back-up big or a starter who will likely cede minutes as our freshmen gets better but damn, Eddie Lampkin?!? There have to be ten centers in the portal who would be a better fit then that guy. I have a feeling I am going to hate the next three to four weeks.

I agree about Rowan, I like him and think he will be a really good college player. But if your Rowan and were told they might be looking for another PG to start while he develops as a backup, what would you do? I’m sure he will find a place to start and probably make more $$, the game has TOTALLY CHANGED. With him and Kaiser out of Maryland, this just shows we can't count on this upcoming freshmen class to be the solution. I would love to believe we have told everyone of these kids the unvarnished truth. What the 3 to 4 year plan is for them. Maybe with Rowan we were just in fill mode when we got him and didn't get a chance to have this discussion. It's not like Rowan would sit next year. He just wouldn't see the minutes he saw on a terrible team. He also would likely see those minutes rise his junior year and start his senior year. The kid isn't a pro so a degree should mean something. The grass also isn't always greener as the schools recruiting him will due the same thing if they can.

Just my thoughts: I think Sorber might be one of the highest paid guys on team, if not the highest, I think he starts. I like TJ but he looks like a Fielder clone, maybe he’s better but I think we invest in Fielder. Lampkin to me is a backup or pass. Defense has to be priority number one. Again here’s what I hope PG Malik Mack and a strong backup SG Jayden Epps and Mulready SF Styles, McKenna and Williams PF a stud experienced scorer and defense and Fielder C Sorber, strong backup, Cook We HAVE to get the PG AND PF RIGHT What if for strong back-up PG we go with this kid out of Georgetown named Rowan Brumbaugh?!? 6'4, good handle, good shot, needs seasoning. WTF are we doing.

This kid might be going for the transfer record. Duquesne -- Gtown -- Florida State -- I'm guessing he sneaks in two more colleges in the next two years.

There are two ways to look at guys who were paying players back before it was legal: First, you can take the view that paying players is legal now, and that the players should have been compensated all along, so past violations for paying players (as opposed to procuring prostitutes, or I don't know, creating an entire fake academic department to keep players eligible) shouldn't really be held against those coaches. Second, you can take the view that, while the players deserved compensation even before it was legal, it wasn't legal. Coaches weren't buying recruits out of the goodness of their hearts, they were doing it to get a leg up on the teams that weren't offering the bag. A coach who was willing to drop the bag under the old rules is a coach who was willing to cheat to get an edge. Now that the playing field has been leveled (from a rules perspective, if not a bankroll perspective), that edge is gone. But the willingness to break the rules and find a new edge might not be gone. In other words, the focus shouldn't be on the nature of the crime, but the active decision to be a criminal. Personally, I fall closer to the first view, at least with respect to this (potential?) hire. Johnson has been caught, disciplined, and is serving his sentence, so to speak. Why should Georgetown punish itself by imposing harsher guidelines than the NCAA? Don't get me wrong, I understand the view that we should hold ourselves to a higher standard, but I don't know if I'm willing to go so far as to assume a potential assistant-coach hire is irredeemable because he committed infractions in the past, which would not be infractions today. I trust Cooley to do the diligence and decide whether Johnson is a guy who can be trusted to abide by the rules now that NIL is allowed, or whether he's just a guy who will cheat to get ahead, and will find a new way to cheat. I would add another view on this. If they weren't cheating, would they still have been a good assistant? So now that the playing field is level, are their connections strong enough to stand on their own now that the payment is the same from every player? That is a legit question. I have no thoughts on this guy but if he is a takeover guy and takeover wants him in that position, that might be a good reason to hire him. His old recruiting successes when he could cheat aren't that special because he had a leg up. That is the real question in this new Jackie Moon semi-pro nonsense we are in with the NCAA.

I hate this. It's why I think next years freshmen class is fool's gold until they are sophomores. If we kept Brumbaugh I would feel differently but if you are taking freshman, you have to retain them and re-recruit them each year.

So at 5 million and 13 slots, that's about 385K a man. What does that distribution look like? Does a slot 9-13 kid get about 50K or maybe even 25K? Do non-starters get 75K a man. That gets you to 475K if you have a good GM with good negotiating skills.
For a starter I am assuming 100K is the minimum ask with an all big east level performer type (thinking somebody like Claude or Richmond) getting 300 to 500K. That would put a roster around 1.5 million. That is probably just to retain your roster, not to attract a kid.
Since we are in the attract mode, I am assuming it is higher then this, especially for starters. So we probably have a floor of 250K per starter and then we need to pay 2 to 3 guys who can be that alpha. He isn't on our roster today. So if we have to overpay, that means likely 750K for those kids.
So guy 1-3 at 750K, guy 4-5 at 350K, guy 6-8 at 100K, guy 9-13 at 75K. That's 3.6 million. Now we gotta overpay too. How these freshmen slot in I have no idea. What happens when guy 8 outperforms and guy 2 stinks? Turmoil in the locker room ensues. This is all so ridiculous. That deflated ball don't mean S**T!

"The IARP’s ruling means that Johnson will not be allowed to recruit off campus during the April and July live periods that occur between Nov. 3, 2022 through Nov. 4, 2024." My concern is, can we afford to take on a guy who isn't allowed to recruit right now? I agree with what 2003 says regarding his "worthiness," but can we afford to use a slot on a guy who can't recruit, this year of all years? "Off Campus"!!! I am sure this guy has irons in the fire and eyes on the street. In this current NCAA environment, this would be the least of my concerns.

I dont get this line of thinking. If you keep 3 core guys from last seasons roster and have 4 incoming recruits (top ranked group in BE) then you do have a 7 person core to build off of. That's not square 1 Do you honestly not get this line of thinking - i.e. you’re shocked that people are frustrated - or are you just being obtuse? And enough of the core talk. There is no core. There are 4 new freshmen and a at best 2 or 3 mismatched parts that helped win zero conference games that weren’t against DePaul. You don't want to lose freshmen though. These aren't seasoned vets. They should get a year plus to adjust. If Mulready, Sorber, McKenna and Williams all aren't immediately contributing, does that mean we see them walk in year 2? Of course not. That is a path to stay on the tracks we currently are on. How many NFL teams overspend in free agency and then win big? Almost none because it's a crap way to build. You need a strong core and with turnover each year, you'll never get it. If we end up with Mintz/McDaniel and a half a dozen free agents, every one of those kids is going to have an angle. Getting them all to buy in over the course of a few months is going to be impossible. If you get them to buy in like St. Johns finally did, it may be too late to matter. It's insane!

To me, I think Fielder is the biggest player we absolutely need to retain. Beyond that, I am not going to really get upset over any others. From what I’m hearing/reading, you are going to be upset. Don't, just don't. Pitino brought in a rack of new guys with NIL money to burn, extra roster spots, and Soriano as the building block and didn't even get into the tourney. If we run back with Epps/Styles and the freshmen class and a bunch of transfers, I'll be irate! Losing Fielder & Brumbaugh would be unacceptable.

Disappointed by the news on Rowan Brumbaugh. I'd hoped the revolving door to which we became accustomed under the prior coaching staff would change. I must be naive. What was the damn point if you were going to lose a guy like Rowan this year?!? Why did I sit through that? Cook/Mutombo I get. Guys who are seasoned and probably capped out I get. But Rowan is on the upswing. I'm like others that if the sport keeps trending this way (and Georgetown in particular), then I'll still tune it but I don't think I can keep buying season tickets. I'm cheering for the Georgetown brand, not the player who pops in for a year and then leaves. If this is a one off, so be it. If this continues the trend from prior years, I'll go cheer on real pros without the veil of education.

Do not let Brumbaugh leave. Glue guy and potential all BE player in year or two. Agree with this 100%. I would like to believe him & family see the vision and future at Gtown with him being a huge part of it. A lot of these guys were forced into service much sooner then anticipated.

I don't think we should really care about the ST. Johns situation. If kids are willing to go there, they know the rules. If this kid followed him from Iona, he knows Pitino well enough. Pitino may have said we will give it a shot for a year and see what happens. I see nothing wrong with that. The kid didn't go to St. Johns from Iona for the shiny degree. He knew what he was doing. I think we are in for a different type of recruit so it doesn't matter from Gtown's side.

Probably Villanova's new starting PG. He is a good 1. Tough last name for a basketball player!

Relax Francis! This is ridiculous. People claiming she didn't do enough because of room full of people with no accountability didn't choose our teams but picked her college team. Get out of here. I'm all in that we should have had more teams in but I also know St. Johns ain't winning this tourney. They could have done the most damage though of the bubble teams. I am of the group that thinks putting in a Indiana St. would be much more meaningful then Michigan State, UVA, Boise, Co St., another MWC I'm forgetting, a few more ACC schools, a few more big ten schools, Texas A&M, etc.

Already 1 transfer and more than last likely 2-3 more. Nobody going to stay here. The school or students or community cares. This is not ever going to be better. No home stadium to play in says a lot. This team under Cooley didn’t even play defense. Inexcusable. Nobody can win here mark it down nobody can win here. It’s just irrelevant and no one give a damn about the basketball program. Just shut it down and forget it. Never change same garbage year after freaking year. Sick of this mess. Don’t know why I’m bothering to respond to this, but . . . We’ve all been expecting Bristol to grad-transfer for weeks now (if not months). He was recognized on Senior Day. As was Ryan Mutombo. So don’t be shocked if he grad-transfers, too. If those two guys leave—with degrees in hand—it is not a sign of another mass exodus. If we are being this pessimistic we might as comment that Kazor entered the portal too. I'm not losing sleep yet as the painfully obvious happens.

Get 3 and leave a slot open. Splash the pot all the way around to keep everybody happy and give everyone a clear development plan. Right now you've got two rising seniors in Styles & Cook. Maybe add 1 grad transfer and then build out with two more guys that can give you one to two years. By then your incoming freshmen will be juniors and you will be stacking another nice recruiting class behind that. That is the dream.

Just curious on thoughts on our guys and the process. I assume coach has already had exit interviews with everyone. Talked up the path forward and hopefully got an indication one way or the other so no one is caught off guard on either side. When would we reasonably expect to hear about any of our current roster?
I am of the camp that would prefer we get all of Cook, Styles, Epps, Brumbaugh & Fielder back for 24/25. I realize roles change yada yada yada but I need to see some kids grow as players. Call me old fashion.
