If it's such a disaster why are programs like Marquette, Xavier, Creighton & PC thriving? Time to stop listening to the Breys & Beoheims in my opinion I am not saying it is an impediment to success. But the new rules are absurd and bad for the game. While I have no love lost for Jimmy B and some others who have spoken out against these changes, I am not hesitant to agree with them when I see these changes harming the game. NIL was established as a legal right. The free transfer portal was the stupid decision of the NCAA. It is reaping what it has sown.

This game is there for the taking. I would love to see a new streak. I hope this team can put together some wins.

I am so glad to see the Hoyas get that victory. They fought hard and EARNED those foul calls by being first to the ball, moving their feet, in good position, etc. I hope this team can build off this game and get as many wins as possible.
In over twenty years, I have read some crazy stuff on Hoyatalk. Claims that this game was fixed are toward, if not at, the top of the list. Wow.

We can agree to disagree. I still believe there are things Big John did in say 1993 or JT III did not do in 2014 that will affect our coach in 2028. Those issues can be overcome- but I think it is false that GU sheds all of that baggage with a new hire- even someone like Pitino.

There is tons of relational baggage attached to Big John, Esh to some extent, III, and Patrick that will stay with the program for years. High school and AAU coaches who will torpedo us. Parents who will not consider us. Recruits in certain parts of the country who still believe GU is a HBCU (there are many here in North Carolina, sadly). And remnants of the lack of NCAA success for years and recent landslide. Certainly, a good coach can overcome that baggage. But it will be there, and it will take time. In all seriousness, what "relational baggage attached to Big John, Esh to some extent, III and Patrick" are you talking about? Are you hinting that there are a bunch of people loyal to those guys that won't send players to Georgetown in the future under a different coach? Who are those "high school and AAU coaches", why would they do that, and how will they "torpedo us"? I hate to break it to you, but we don't have very good relationships with most local high school and AAU coaches as is. We have had a terrible lack of success recruiting locally - nobody is delivering players to us. If you're talking about regional or national programs (the IMG Acacemys of the world), how could they send us fewer prospects than they're sending us now? What are these loyalties to the Thompson/Ewing folks getting us today? We've recruited a team of mercenaries through the portal and our high school recruiting appears to be dead in the water due to the team's performance, we've lost 27 straight Big East games - so how could it get any worse? Hoyaboya- we are in agreement that the relationships with coaches and recruiting sources is in shambles. My point is that those issues are something a new coach will inherit. If the idea is that a new coach somehow clears the slate, I disagree with that vehemently. I think it will be a slow thaw over the course of years or perhaps a decade or more.

I am not saying getting rid of Ewing will make it worse; I am saying it is a mess for any new coach to deal with.

If there is a change, we need a coach who wants to be at GU, period, baggage and all. Even if there are widescale changes, there will be baggage. We need someone who embraces that and has no fear. If Ronny and his cronies are no longer around, what "baggage" do you speak of? It's a great job. It pays highly, is located in a recruiting hotbed on a gorgeous campus and plays in a high profile conference. Sure, we don't have some of the advantages the Power 5 football schools have, but it's a very good job particularly for somebody with ties east of the Mississippi. Or...Jack is going to let the season play out and make a decision at the end. Period. The Earth will not stop spinning, and if GU decides to pursue a new coach at that point, it will have plenty of options.

That was a winnable game. More frustration. On to the next one. I am hoping that the team will decide to FIGHT and can salvage some wins down the stretch. 0-27, 0-270, whatever...it is a privilege to wear the navy and gray and I hope to see these players have some fun and enjoy their time on the Hilltop.

Rightly so.
GU is wise to be very careful about these things. Losing basketball games is one thing. The situation could get a whole lot worse than that.
