Any word on events/meet ups? Getting in Tuesday. Can't wait! There is a 5 p.m. cocktail party on Tuesday night. You should contact the athletic department for more information.

I completely disagree with the characterization of Paul White as "slow as molasses."

I agree with most of the above. Hopkins is best at the 4. He should try to remain a 10-15% usage player but when open should take his shot. If he avoids shooting he would become like Nate(black hole)on offense. I do love that he has taken up the Nate role on Defense which he really did not do as well last year. I hope that hustle translates quickly to the freshmen on defense. I was under the impression that SF-B was a senior laden team but reading the comments appears they had 7 new players on their team yesterday so that tempers some expectations. I really wish Hopkins and Hayes had mastered the jump hook by now. Minor quibble.. Isn't a black hole on offense a player who when gets the ball never gives it back....the ball goes away as if lost in a black hole I thought I saw the beginning of a black hole, but it was Peak and not Hopkins. He went to the rim just about every time he got the ball. I loved the aggressiveness...just hope we didn't the beginning of poor judgement I'm not sure that I have ever disagreed more with a comment on this board than the suggestion that LJ showed the beginnings of being a black hole - and that is saying something. LJ was 9-9 on his shots - which one was a bad one? He was fouled on three other shots - which was a bad shot? He had three assists, and had two other passes that would have been assists if the receiving players' shots had gone in. When LJ played in the Jordan Clasic last year he stood out as the only player other than the point guards who was willing to give the ball up in the context of what goes by the name of offense in an all star game.

The reaction in Syracuse is exactly what one would expect from a fan base that has been so desensitized to miscreant behavior over the Magoo years. They have routinely risen up to defend the indefensible, be it Red Bruin, Andre Hawkins, Billy Edelin, Devendorf, Melo, you name it. It is a clannish, hillbilly mentality that defies logic and reason. People talk about the bunker mentality at GU during the Thompson years, but the entire Syracuse community is down in the bunker with Magoo and his miscreants. As long as the cretins are fed basketball during the long cold winter in southern Canada, they are willing to overlook just about everything. And now we insult cretins.

Magoo could have plenty of time to deal with the reinstated suit, once the NCAA penalties come down against 'Cuse. Boy, I hate seeing this kind of thing involving our friends at Lower Canada Community College. As a Canadian, I feel that Canada has a defamation lawsuit against this board for being constantly linked to Syracuse. For perspective, the board should also know that the poster - NJHoya78 - bears a disturbing facial resemblence to his whininess.

I actually spoke with Jackson earlier this year and he seemed to have love for the Hoyas. Jaren was also at the gala dinner for the IAC groundbreaking.

Grantland speculating that Jeff will be traded this season "Green has a player option for 2015-16, meaning he may be working on a de facto expiring contract. His price will come down as the season moves along, but Boston might be willing to accept a diminished return. He’s a likable guy with more fans across the league than you might expect, and he can split minutes between the two forward positions. We know now that Green isn’t a primary offensive option, but he has become a good spot-up shooter, he runs the floor, and he’s a nice secondary threat. He can attack gaps in the defense, provided a teammate cracks them open first." grantland.com/the-triangle/33-crazy-predictions-for-the-nba-season/

One other thought, however. The Thompson IAC is intended to house facilities for many other women's and men's sports teams, not just men's basketball. So the question arises: where were the celebrations for women's basketball and men and women's soccer, track, football, etc.? Soccer and lacrosse will have locker rooms in the IAC, but the other sports remain in McDonough. Each of the varsity teams had a couple of athletes at the dinner. The entire woman's basketball team was in attendance. While not all the teams get new locker rooms, all of the teams will be served by the enhanced medical and training facilities and study facilities.

I missed a former player who spoke last night. Michael Jackson, now a VP with Nike, led off the former players.

Actually, the manager story was a great one. Coach saw him working as a manage for American and recruited him to transfer to GU.

Thanks, Chris. The only somewhat negative thing (perhaps just a small pet peeve) I may come away from all of this is that I am now convinced that for one reason or another JT prefers to refer to his most successful NBA guys rather than give shout outs to some of the arguably more important players to the program whose pro careers weren't as stellar. I'm guessing if, say, Reggie Williams's career was as successful as Reggie Miller's, JT would chat him up more. I wasn't watching Hoya hoops during Reggie's days but I've become aware how critical he, Sleepy, Duren, Wingate, etc. were to the program's success. Perhaps JT talked them up during the evening portion. But to read that the four guys that spoke at the podium were the four most NBA successful Hoya alum gives me doubts. MCI - I may have unwittingly reinforced your view with my selection of comments about the event, but if you had witnessed John's whole speech you would think otherwise. John spent 10 minutes talking about one of the managers and more time talking about Lori Michael and Mary Fenlon than any of the players. Moreover there was a long video featuring John and Lonnie Duren. Now John Duren is a Hoya great, but Lonnie got about two minutes a game. He is, however, doing great community work in Southeast DC today. A.I. got a lot of attention, but I think that is mostly because the whole community was stunned to see him.

Notes from the Friday night dinner.
From the start of the cocktail hour to the end of the final benediction the event was six hours long!!
Despite the length, the event was amazing. I have attended quite a few Georgetown functions and this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I doubt that this collection of former Hoyas will ever have reason to be together at a formal event like this again.
I think we learned that they do not make microphone stands high enough for speakers when 4 of them ar at least 6 foot 10.
Former Hoyas were spread around the tables with the alumni and friends of the program. We were lucky enough to have Otto at our table.
The return of A.I. seemed to be the highlight of the evening for our current players. The major reason for this seems to be that the the bigs all seem to have spent a lot of time around the program while A.I. has been absent. Jabril in particular, as a Philadelphian, was really enthused to meet his idol.
Four former players spoke in person - Patrick, Zo, Deke and A.I. All were moving in their own way. Apparently Dikembe missed class one day due to sickness and came to the locker room to find a one way ticket back to the Congo in his locker. Mary Fenlon had to talk Big John into changing his mind.
The videotaped speeches by opposing coaches were all good, but Coach K's was the best. He spoke about Big John's role in forcing the acceptance of African-American coaches and said a lot of nice things about the program and the university, past and present.
Both the groundbreaking ceremony and the dinner had relatively little involvment from JT III. It appears that he was consciously trying to step aside and have his father be the focus of the evening.
I spoke with Ed Cooley and thanked him for coming to both the groundbreaking and the dinner. I also congratulated him on his recruiting. He said he was friends with JT III.
John became friends with Dan Rather (when Rather was the leading anchor in America) in his early years at Georgetown. Rather was at the dinner.
I am now convinced that Josh has lost at least 40 pounds and understands that this is his last chance to make a career in basketball.
I am really excited for the season. I think we win the Big East and make a March run.

He clearly did not nail the top 5 players in GU history. See Floyd, Eric You are right - I was just thinking that too. My bad. Still an impressive 5. Anyone know if Sleepy attended? I don't know if Sleepy was at the groundbreaking, but he was at the dinner.
