As DFW and ColumbiaHeights commented, there are plenty of worthy schools within about a two hour drive - Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania that could improve the attendance at Verizon and start a more local (albeit lopsided in our favor) rivalry for these early OOC games. If the name of the game is to find a reasonably easy win but not kill our SOS then look at schools in a 150 mile or so radius with an RPI ranking under say 200 which includes Delaware 66, Richmond 71, Towson 84, William & Mary 124, ODU 163, VMI 167, GMU 173, Bucknell 170 and Mount Saint Mary's 196. By comparison, TAMUCC was listed at 233 last year. Other weaker, more local (same time zone) contenders with higher RPIs would be Morgan State 222, JMU 236, Lehigh 238 and Navy 301. None of these schools are from power conferences but they are respectable programs and don't equal St. Leo's or Maryland Eastern Shore. As a season ticket holder I do want a reason to come downtown for a decent game. I'm not suggesting we try and recreate the Big 5 local match-ups that they have in Philly (although it's not a bad idea) but at least we can have some local feeling and perhaps a few assorted visiting fans for these games. Someone can now feel free to post how the Verizon Center professional sports team schedules dictate our game opportunities and kill our ability to schedule decent opponents. That will re-start a flurry of posts regarding the need for an on-campus arena. Anybody reading this from the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2E please note that such a debate was unintended on my part. If we ever schedule a home game against ODU again, especially at McDonough, I will cease to donate to the program and curl up in a little ball and die. I have been traumatized enough.

In addition, our building costs also tend to be higher because we are looking to shoehorn buildings into a highly constrained amount of space.

What do I like? I love 10 teams and the double round robin. I am pretty happy with the additions to the conference in Creighton . Butler and Xavier. I am ecstatic that we are no longer in the same conference as Pitt and West Virginia.
What would I change to improve the conference? We and St John's need to be better than we were in year one because that is the only way to fill up the Garden for the BET.
Am I satisfied with Fox Sports coverage? It is awesome that every game is televised. As an out of towner that was a major concern with the loss of ESPN. I am less excited about the times of some of the games but that is not a problem for me, only some of the DC area fans. Beyond Raff, I found much of the commentary to be quite weak.
Do I prefer the old Big East? Yes, the one circa late 1980s with 10 teams. I hated the 16 team league. It does suck though, not having Syracuse, UConn and Louisville on the schedule.

If the standard is hit an open three point shot, Jon Wallace would be at the top of my list.

I believe that our rate of fouling on defense will decline significantly - i.e. return to historic levels - in 14-15.

My Freshman year 74-75, we could buy beer for 50 cents and mixed drinks for a dollar in McDonough.
Of course the drinking age was 18.

Has anyone ever seen Harvard/Princeton in the same sentence as Syracuse/Maryland??? "After graduating from Princeton, Pembroke Burroughs Gilmore IV founded The Privatized Penal Group, whose success was assured by its focus on the lucrative Syracuse segment.

I think the full lyrics of the chorus are appropriate here.
"Teach your children well, Their father's hell did slowly go by, And feed them on your dreams The one they picked, the one you'll know by."
I have never been prouder of somebody else's daughter.

Michael Bohlin @mbohlin247 12m Had #Hoyas offer. RT @sportando: Panathinaikos announces an agreement with Greek big man Georgios Papagiannis (1997, 216m) Would someone interpret this? Panathinaikos is arguably the most successful pro team in European basketball with 6 European club championships.

I agree with those sentiments. Class is looking great but needs at least one guard. except he has been playing wing in high school. because his ball handling skills and shots have not been there. in my opinion, he is kinda like aaron bowen with a bit higher ceiling.. I do not believe that the Bowen comparison is appropriate. Josh is already an elite defender and would come in as the best defending guard that we have had since AI.

From Espn: Best back-to-the-basket and face-up touch: Marcus Derrickson This Georgetown commit has an excellent stroke with his face-up game. He knocks down midrange jumpers from all around the floor and creates matchup problems with his ability to draw post players away from the lane. How do you go from this ESPN writeup to dropping out of the ESPN Top 100?

So I hear this Allonzo Trier kid is really good! Let me be quite clear. I assume that Trier is the staff's top choice and I think that any of the other targets would be an amazing get as well. Our recent recruiting success is making me lightheaded.

Plus, and this is important, Reaves would immediately be the best defender on the team. Defensively he reminds me of David Wingate. Oh you didn't! Chris - you made the Wingate comparison! Doesn't get much better than that - maybe Gene Smith -- in the pantheon of Hoya perimeter defenders Wingate was a shutdown defender who also had a handle & could finish, pass and provided added value in so many areas. If Reaves makes HoyaChris - one of our longest tenured and most knowledgeable fans -- think of David Wingate? Then I say bring him on! Reaves and Trier added to the guys we have already -- (With our without Rabb) would be an embarrassment of riches.... oh my! I could have done without the longest tenured reference. Especially from one so much my senior.

We really should not forget about Josh Reaves in this discussion He is an uber-athlete. Since seeing him at EYBL this past weekend, I have been searching for the player he reminds me of and it has finally come to me - Victor Oladipu.

He is a very, very good three point shooter and clearly can stretch the floor.

He only took 6-7 shots when I was there so two does not seem a small number in context. Mostly he caught the ball mid post, made a move and was laying the ball in at the hoop. I saw one baby hook.

So, I guess my question with Derrickson is where he fits into the rotation as a freshman / sophomore. It doesn't seem like he provides anything offensively that isn't replicated by other players, now that Noah has committed, who, it sounds like, is both bigger and much more of a traditional post player than Derrickson. (The caveat, of course, is that I haven't seen him play, only read about him, so please take this as a question, not a criticism) He seems to be a 4/3, but he's not particularly tall, and it sounds like he won't be able to keep up with most 3s on defense. Considering the 3/4 positions will have Peak, Copeland, White and Noah (not to mention Mourning and Cameron) there for at least his freshman year, is he something of a project/end of the rotation type, at least his first year (and maybe even his second, depending on if anyone goes pro early and how everyone develops)? Or does his game add something that none of the other players provide (like Cameron's shooting, if it comes around)? Marcus Derrickson is a very good basketball player that almost any program in the country would be happy to sign. I have no idea how the log jam at the 3/4 is going to sort itself out, but this sort of dilemna is inevitable if we keep signing highly ranked players.

Sounds like some of our fans have a case of PTRSD. Post Traumatic Recruiting Stress Disorder. I think what we have is a case of HTHDOFLGTBTWCMTTWTGGITWWBMUSD or "How The Hell Did Our Front Line Get This Bad That We Can't Make The Tourney With Two Great Guards I Thought We Were Big Man U Stress Disorder."
