Bad Day at Black Rock, that's way more catchy than MSF....I know its from a movie and it's not the right name, but maybe we can just come up with a Nickname of sorts to call the MSF like "The Rock Pile" or "Stonewall Field"........anything is better than MSF.
Actually, I'd be curious if they actually put some money into making the MSF a respectable college environment does anyone have suggestions for a Nickname for the filed like suggested above? Until they make the place better, this is all a theoretical discussion - just curious if anyone has a good name?

One thing that I think would make the Blue / Black Helmets WAY Better would be a Gtown G on the one side and if they wanna keep the number on the other fine.
Watching on a video feed last weekend, the helmets looked really plain and NOT Gtown b/c their was no signature G.....put it on one side at least!

Is anyone else shocked that as a whole, Basketball only expects to raise $1.5m in donations annually...this seems really low for a Nationally Prominent D-I Program in a Major Sport that is as recognizable and historied as Gtown BB, not to mention seemingly absolutely critical to what I thought was a pretty fanatical alumni fan base with pretty high expectations for success? Especially, since there is not another major sport that overshadows the BB program like FB does at the vast majority of schools that are comparable in level to Gtown BB. I'm curious what type of donation levels other similar size schools with Nationally Prominent BB programs pull in annually from their alumni (Duke, Wake, some of the other Top Tier Big East teams, etc)?
From a FB perspective, I would be willing to bet that "IF" the MSF had been completed as anticipated by many FB alumni 10 + years ago, there would be substantially more alumni that would be donating substantially more $ than the paltry $250 - $300k referenced above as a likely unattained Goal.
Additionally, I would be willing to bet that "IF" a MSF completion plan with funding requirements were actually published and metrics about funding goals being achieved were tracked and published - there would be many former FB alumni that would we willing to make some pretty decent sized donations specific to this cause....but open and consistent communication about the plan and progress towards the plan; even if phased would be absolutely critical to this happening. Hopefully, this sentiment and behavior would be consistent with the LAX alumni as well, effectively doubling the potential increase in fund raising.
Further, I would be willing to bet that these same alumni would continue to give on a much higher level than they do currently annually b/c they would have seen progress and commitment from the University to do something positive for these programs and break the 10+ years of apathy that we have experienced. A near immediate jump to $500k in FB donations seems doable and I don't think its outlandish to say that $1m annually is possible - putting FB pretty close to BB in terms of alumni giving. If just 10 people in each class and some parents / friends of the program from the past 30 years donated, we would have a donation base of @ 500 people...does anyone know who many people currently donate on any given year?
All that said, I made a donation to the Letter Winner Challenge and I hope that FB wins some of the $50k available...every little bit helps!

From someone who was there, I'm curious about attendance: Homecoming and a Big Name Ivy opponent - did we have a sell out or better? Did Harvard bring a good contingent of fans? Did the Hoyas Come Early, Be Loud and Stay Long or was it apathetic? Really - How embarrassing was it for the to the Hoyas (Facilities, Game Day Atmosphere, Etc) ?

Loving being able to watch the game on real TV!
That said, our tackling is awful and we need to get more aggressive in general.....regardless somehow we are keeping it close.
Go Hoyas!!!!

I know that this is a worthless thought b/c no work is going to be done on the MSF any time soon.... But, I saw this pic (attached) and started thinking that even if the seating capacity of the MSF was small, they could really make it look a lot more like a real stadium if they continued this retaining wall all the way around 3 sides of the field (Scoreboard, Home & Visitor sides) and used fill dirt from someplace like the digging of the IAC to elevate the seating by 10 - 15 feet with a permanent looking / concrete wall surrounding 3 sides of the field. It would give the whole place a mini-horseshoe feel.
Also, like I suggested last year would love to see a locker room building built into the hill right behind this end zone to house two teams during pregame and halftime.

I think I posted this in the past, sorry if it's a repeat but I think that there is a potential Win / Win for older player alumni and the FB team fund raising in making a yearly purchase of that season's team Gtown FB gear available for purchase, especially the customized stuff with numbers on it, etc.
At the beginning of the season, make a bulk purchase of the new years gear being provided to the team available to Grid Iron Club members at a substantial markup off cost. So, say the cost of all the T-s, Shorts, Sweats, Hats, etc that gets provided to the team comes to a total of $100 - then charge $250 for it to former players. If it costs $250 then make it available for $500....
Basically a way to get new gear to old players and create a way to generate some additional cash for the program. It's not a lot of money, but every little bit helps - right?

My assumption is that 90% of cash donations to the program come from former players or some close relation to a former player. That said, I think that the 22 years of relationships that Rob has with past Team Captains needs to be used in a Grassroots Fundraising and Activism manner for things like pushing the AD and Healy for answers on the MSF. Rob need to ask former Captains to be in in charge of driving fundraising from their former teams (2 years in front and 2 years behind their graduation). I choose these years b/c it is the classes that these Captains had an effect on, but also so that there is overlapping fundraising from multiple years of Captains for each player. Our fundraising is abysmal and if these guys got on the phone and started asking for $500 to $1000 from all of their former teammates it would in my opinion have a much larger impact than some girl from the softball team calling and asking for money. Once this drives more money maybe Rob and the Captains can figure out a way to get the MSF built using the same grassroots pathway of former players now financially involved in the program.

"If you want a playbook to follow, consider Brown. Lowest budget in the Ivy, arguably the worst home field, but only two seasons below .500 since 1994".
DFW - I would really be interested in your analysis / perspective on Why Brown has achieved the above, any chance that we might get a Blog on this in the near future?

Please get into POD - with your wealth of complaining and useless, non-productive, whiney comments....man you such an deleted, I wish you would step out from your on-line facade and let me come talk to you in person about Gtown FB someday! My guess is that you are just some super deleted that never stepped on a field at the HS or Pop Warner level - right?

So, it has been said that Gtown was the CRITICAL lynch-pin in the creation / existence of the New Big East..... As such, I would argue that Gtown should have some ability to shape the footprint of the sports or league beyond Basketball. Looking at the current Big East Conference schools & football, to me it does not seem unrealistic to create a Big East FB league bound by mutually agreed upon standards (No-AI, Limited Scholarships(max 45 over a graduated timeline), Etc, Etc...). BTW - I think some form & number of Scholarship is REQUIRED in these days in FB....the Ivey’s give them regardless of name! Existing FCS Teams: Villanova - CAA, Full Scholarship FC Program, recent National Championship...but no one seems to care or like the costs associated with playing at that level. Their Alumni may never allow them to play in the Patriot League as it would be viewed as a gross downgrade, but perhaps playing in the New Big East might be somehow more palatable? ? I expect it would be to the Board and Leaders looking at schools like JMU spending $62m on stadium alone! Gtown - Not sure I need to comment here other than, We Will NEVER Improve w/out a Stadium deserving of College Athletes. Butler - See Butler thread on making the playoffs, Gtown has never made the playoffs but I bet the New Big East would be able to secure an Auto-Bid without a whole lot of work if the league actually existed! Existing Club Teams: DePaul, Xavier - These are two teams that seem to be really excited to play in the New Big East, nudging them to compete in a New Big East FB Conf. does not seem to be too much of a stretch, if anything it would be an exciting expansion for their schools enabled by the New Big East. Low Hanging Fruit: Creighton - School has an athletics mentality in a FB poor town of Omaha / FB rich state of NB, Beautiful professional level small soccer stadium, to me they could be a big player in the New Big East in no time! St Johns - Really nice existing stadium, looking for any lever to make the New Big East stronger so they don't get completely left in the encyclopedia as a once relevant school (if the new Big East collapses)....Most importantly HUGE & ALMOST IMMEDIATE RIVAL in BB, FB, LAX and likely every other sport. Others: Marquette, Providence & Seton Hall - I don't know much about these guys, but I bet with a little leverage from Gtown and Nova, with Butler and Xavier making a move it would not take much for them to find some FB $$$ that never existed in the past. 6 or 7 league “Big East FB Conference” – This could be a league that competes with the Ivey’s and or close to the NEW Patriot and maybe plays up occasionally to CAA! Comments / Thoughts?

Butler claims PFL's first playoff bid St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Butler University received the Pioneer Football League's first-ever automatic qualifying bid to the FCS playoffs on Tuesday. Butler won a ranking tiebreaker over Marist. The two teams shared the PFL title after going 7-1 in league games, but they didn't play each other in the 12- member league's unbalanced scheduling
We need to start playing these guys annually and making this into a solid BB / FB rival!

P.S. - Why can't the "Stadium" be built in segments? Take on an imporvement every 1-2 years, make the goal, project plan and timeline known to people upfront and collect towards that improvement. The simple fact is that in the past 3k days that nothing has been done (aside from new turf - absolutely needed), we could have been chipping away at improvements like I have suggested above. My guess is that this addition would cost between $250k and $500k, which could have been built and done at this point without needing to gain the approval of the Neighborhood Board more than likley. Why can't we do a little each year (Locker Room Building & Move the Electric Boxes on the Home Side preventing Growth, Added Stands Home, Build Press Box, Concession & Restroom facility, Added Stands Visitor, Etc....) We could have a pretty nice facility in my opinion if the past 10 years were not wasted waiting for the Big Bang improvement - lets eat this Baby Elephant in annual improvements.....Thoughts?
