Unfortunate, but it seems to me that Gtown basically does as little as is possible in every aspect of being a University and effectively has been successful at and will continue to pray to be able to hold onto its Top 25 US News Ranking!
I mean, I started this comparing Gtown to Top Notch D-1 Schools....but DFW makes a good point: "Former non-scholarship programs like Duquesne, Wagner, Robert Morris, St. Francis and the like are now offering up to 40 scholarships each, which adds more to what's out there. Not every one of these recruits is looking at schools like Georgetown, but if they pick off one or two a year, that's what counts.
FWIW, former MAAC opponent Duquesne got a $200,000 guarantee (plus free airfare and hotel for 100 players and staff) to play a game at Hawaii last week because they had the scholarships. (Final: a respectable 42-21.) They go back to Hawaii in 2022 and have scheduled Charlotte in 2021 and West Virginia in 2023, and that sells for recruits, as opposed to, well...Marist."
It just continues to be mind boggling that these little town Schools can find $$$ for Scholies and Proud Global Brand Gtown (made so heavily off athletics in the early 80's) is too poor to even possibly consider it! SAD

None of the above helps us recruit better, compete more and WIN in Football....and in regard to the comments about geographic changes to recruiting at Gtown above - I don't see this as a bad thing, I think we should get as many kids from TX and FL/GA as is possible, the Coaching Level and Competition level in these states are incredible and kids are much more ready to play earlier at the next level in my opinion than from anywhere in the North East (Especially MDDCVA) which for some Odd Reason we seem to want to pull kids from!
It seems to me that the only way Gtown has any chance of competing long term is to find a way to get 40-60 Scholarships, but it also seems to me based on most of the feedback this will never happen until we have a New President of The University and even then it is going to take a special kind of a New President (one that has the mindset the Athletics have a positive impact on the Brand of the University) and is willing to make significant changes and significant investments in this new approach. I can only hope this type of person takes the reigns in a few years!

Interesting Read: www.usnews.com/education/blogs/paper-trail/2008/12/30/athletes-show-huge-gaps-in-sat-scoresSome highlights: - Football players average 220 points lower on the SAT than their classmates. Men's basketball was 227 points lower. - University of Florida won the prize for biggest gap between football players and the student body, with players scoring 346 points lower than their peers. - Georgia Tech had the nation's best average SAT score for football players, 1028 of a possible 1600, and best average high school GPA, 3.39 of a possible 4.0. But because its student body is apparently very smart, Tech's football players still scored 315 SAT points lower than their classmates. - UCLA, which has won more NCAA championships in all sports than any other school, had the biggest gap between the average SAT scores of athletes in all sports and its overall student body, at 247 points. - Schools with the highest admissions standards, such as Georgia Tech, the University of Virginia, the University of California-Berkeley, UCLA, and the University of North Carolina, had the biggest gaps between the SAT averages for athletes and the overall student body. At a glance, here are the top 10 highest and lowest schools based on the average SAT scores of football players (out of a maximum 1600 score): FOOTBALL SAT SCORES: THE TOP 10 School, Average Georgia Tech, 1028 Oregon State, 997 Michigan, 997 Virginia, 993 Purdue, 974 Indiana, 973 Hawaii, 968 California, 967 Colorado, 966 Iowa, 964 THE BOTTOM 10 School, Average Oklahoma State, 878 Louisville, 878 Memphis, 890 Florida, 890 Texas Tech, 901 Arkansas, 910 Texas A&M, 911 Mississippi State, 911 Washington State, 916 Michigan State, 917

BTW - Despite what our Faculty may think, I personally believe that Gtown is more closely comparable to some of the Smaller Top Notch Universities like Notre Dame, Northwestern, Vandy, Rice, Duke & Wake Forest vs The Ivy League! All of these schools baring Duke which is larger at like 17k Undergrad I think are in the 4k - 8k Undergraduate student size....just like Gtown. The Ivy League is the Ivy League, it has been in place for hundreds of years and they do what they do - not saying any better or worse than the schools above....but it is a Club that no matter how much people at Gtown may want to be included into - it will never happen! We need to recognize this, we compete for many of the same students with the Ivy as do the schools above - but at the end of the day We Are Not Ivy and Never Will Be Ivy! (See this as Good, Bad, Indifferent - who cares its just the truth). The only thing that makes us a bit closer to Ivy schools than those above is Gtown's location on the East Coast!
However, for some reason unlike these other schools that are not totally adverse to offering scholarships and assistance to a portion of the student body (Sports / Band / Theater, Etc) and provide to their students both opportunity from these skills in helping them to get into said elite school and aide them in the payment of their education. It is also very much in my opinion, helping to provide the larger student body and the alumni base a really fun and well rounded college experience filled with traditions and student cohesiveness - driven at times by Football, Etc.
SORRY - BUT AN AVERAGE D-1 BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN ANNUAL BASIS FOR THE PAST +20 YEARS DOES NOT CUT IT!
Whereas, Gtown seems constantly to be pleading Poverty and is for whatever reason Very Unwilling to offer aide to its student body...except at what seems to me to be the absolute minimum level possible. I mean would it absolutely kill the school to Offer 60 Football Scholarships and then in turn be able to increase the what I understand to usually be very / very small Partial Scholarships in most of the Women's Sports currently to an equivalent 60 Full Rides for these ladies....or if it meets Title 9 - give 60 to the Ladies in the Band and maybe build the thing from the somewhat comical "scramble band" that it is into a REAL BAND - like all of the very similar schools to Gtown referenced above already have?
I just can't imagine that 120 Total Full Scholarships to Women and likely a higher number of Minorities than standard in the student body is bad and/or something that this Substantial / Wanting to be Globally Recognized and Respected University can't afford.....
The schools listed above are able to do it and some are even thriving! Maybe if we had bigger football, we would also have significantly Bigger and More Annual Donations from the Alumni Base - which is the case for most if not all of the schools above and is not the case as I understand it for Gtown! These scholarships COULD ultimately drive a substantial increase in the schools Coffers - but that would likely require a move to FBS at some point further down the road to be totally honest.

Does anyone happen to know what the "Minimum Acceptable Standards" are for the Football Recruits at Top Academic schools in FBS?
- Stanford, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Vandy, Rice, Duke, Etc
It seems to me that since we DON'T offer scholarships like the rest of the league, an argument should be made to the Patriot league that we are at a MASSIVE disadvantage and that we shouldn't have to adhere to the league AI policy. That is, as long as All Accepted Football Players meet some "Minimum Acceptable Standard" that is simple and clear - perhaps similar to the schools above - like 3.2 / 1250!
An argument also could be made that this makes it possible for what I consider to be obviously still very bright kids (3.2 / 1250) who perhaps come from disadvantaged areas more of an oppty to attend Gtown. Even better, Rice now provides free tuition for families making < $130k, I believe a lot of the Ivys do too. Gtown should get on board with this concept and it would allow us to recruit from a much bigger pool and effectively "scholarship" those kids that fall into a less economically fortune bracket.
Finally, it seems to me that the traditionally Extremely Liberal Minded Faculty should be open on the principle that it is providing oppty to a more diversified (race and socioeconomic) student body. At the end of the day a person with a 3.2 / 1250 is clearly a bright person and sports could be giving them an oppty they may otherwise never have to attend Gtown and I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of these kids would graduate with close or nearly identical results as the kids today admitted under the AI restrictions.

Lord Help Us, that looks nothing like the depictions that we have seen (even the latest) which are really, really bottom of the barrel for a Top 25 University regardless of NCAA Level....However, I would be ok if this or something along the lines of this someday became the Visitor sideline!
Not to get to crazy here, but it would be cool if they had those small Visitor side box things available for either Parents of the Home / Away Program or for Various Alumni groups to rent out and have food / beer / booze catered from one of the Gtown On-Campus Grills. I know I would pay for a small Box type thing for me and some of my friends to enjoy a game, especially if I could get Food and Beer delivered!
I'm thinking $1k for the space and then Food / Beverage on top of that with a Service Charge -- What would you pay?
Also, will there be any Box Type arrangements in the New Home Stands with stuff like I mention above?

Looking at the schedule, it seems POSSIBLE (not likely), but possible that we could go 5-0 to start before starting Conference Play with Fordham...
09/01: at Marist 09/08: CAMPBELL 09/15: at Dartmouth 09/22: COLUMBIA 09/29: at Brown
Thoughts?

This does not have the most recent Renderings that were included on your site (DFW) as of few months ago, unless I'm just missing them....
These should be at the bottom of the page.--Admin

Does anyone have the link to the most recent Renderings of the Stadium? I'd like to see a so called Berm / Grass visitor side that I apparently missed.... Word coming from someone up at Gtown is that: 1) Home side, permanent stands and bathrooms for 3500 with game day locker rooms only. FB team will continue to use existing locker rooms for day to day use.... 2) On Visitor side temporary bleachers will replace West (home) side during construction. Eventually this will have a hill type berm like UVA has in their end zone. According to him, the Visitor side you see in Renderings that it will have a grass hill and that's it. That is the long term plan right now unfortunately.

From a Trusted Source at Gtown, who shared with me pics of the removal of the Visitor Side Stands at Cooper Field... "Believe it or not Georgetown people they are removing the bleachers on east side of Cooper Field. Does this really mean they will finish this watered down project after 20 plus years. We will see...." Attachments:

Are there any rumors / plans of his departure?
He has been at Gtown 16 years as President and is 60 years old - so one could argue that he may be here for another 10 - 15 years assuming his health is good...

Scheduling - It makes no sense to me that we don't schedule the currently available Big East schools on an annual basis, win or lose - to me it just makes sense. (Nova & Butler). In addition to this, as a founding member of the BE - I would think that we could more than likely persuade the BE school(s) that have Club FB currently to make a move up to Non-Scholarship FB with a VISION of establishing a Non-Scholarship Big East FB conference made up of like minded (basketball focused) schools. (Xavier) The same argument could be made for some of the schools in the conference that currently DON'T have FB but did in the past and/or might be interested based on stuff that I've seen on the web by people or groups interested getting FB at these schools: (DePaul, Marquette, St Johns & Creighton). This would obviously take a BOLD VISION - but it could be done in 5 years if Gtown really decided to drive this. In addition to these auto-include BE schools, we could also open this up to others like (Davidson, Dayton). This is BOLD so likely not going to happen, I get that but it ONLY takes 7 Teams to make a Conference. So, if we decide or it is decided for us that Gtown can't play in the Patriot anymore and the IL is not willing to take us as a FB affiliate - why not Independent??? What is the harm, we are not going to make the Playoffs anyway as a Non-Scholarship program and if we do we may win 1 game...... Indy Schedule - We could schedule Butler, Nova any of the 8 IL teams, any of the 6 Patriot schools, any of the Lower Level CAA schools (Maine, Rhode Island) and if we got better in time, we could obviously expand to Bigger Named 1-AA competition. I really don't think that Gtown would have any issue putting together a pretty good schedule of games year after year as an Indy....who would not want to play a team with a Known Name that they will likely beat!!! Stadium - Enough has been said about this, but it DEFINITELY impacts FB Recruiting - our place it a Joke, If I was really on the fence Gtown or Columbia as an example, the feel that they have a Real Stadium and CARE about the program would likely push me to Columbia. VISION & COMMUNICATION - Here is the breakdown, for 20 years now there has been NO VISION & ABSOLUTELY NO COMMUNICATION from the Program, Athletic Dept or School. So while I would love to get people working towards Funding Scholarships and Improving Facilities, Etc - NO FUNDS WILL COME UNTIL THEY HAVE A PLAN & COMMUNICATE UPDATES AND PROGRESS MADE TOWARD THE PLAN ON A REGULAR BASIS - I'm not giving $10k to go into a pot of funds that just evaporates like it did for so many when they started the funding drive for the Stadium 5k days ago! Coaching - We don't seem to be way undersized or slow aside from a RB, so why do we SUCK so very badly - we've had like 10 OC's an they all seem to be the same very ineffective Offense...how can we change things up and put in a scheme that gives us a chance?

BTW - worst play call of the day thus far in my opinion was early in the game we had a 3rd and 9 and give to the little RB for about 1 yard, when we rarely if ever get more than a few yards on a carry in years!
