Does anyone think that there would be a benefit in making a little progress towards the completion / ultimate expansion of the MSF if we did a "Season Ticket Buy-Out Campaign" each year for the next few years. That is, if everyone that reads this board or is someway associated / interested in Gtown FB spent $100 for two season ticket seats regardless of their intent or ability to attend the games, it sends a message - right? Maybe not a huge message, but its something. After all, 250 people would buy 500 seats and what if we actually got close to 500 people and it sold out 1000 of the measly 2000 available seats for a couple of years – that would in my opinion say something…all be it maybe a whisper. Worst case is the program and athletic department get some extra cash and we get the added benefit of being able to report really good gate numbers for all games.
It’s a small individual investment but it might go a long way in a few years when HOPEFULLY someone starts planning for the sizing of the MSF build-out.
Thoughts?

"The Dirt Pit" - fitting and much more catchy than the MSF in my honest opinion!

It's like the university has no pride in itself - honestly, what if I lived in a really nice neighborhood and spent a lot for my house but just decided that I didn't want to spend money on the front yard, so I kept it a dirt pit for 10 years. I would be considered a loser with no Pride in myself or my home. I get that they don't want to spend money, but really you just have to have Pride in yourself and your "home" and provide an environment becoming a top tier university. The dirt pit is a discrace it's been there for 10 years, its totally unacceptable and I am so sad that the school so apathetic that it finds this and the past 10 years acceptable!!!!!!

At least I had the pleasure to watch a few seconds of the half time dance squad - just awesome stuff!!! Really, can't they just get a cover band or something that people might enjoy, the 15 person rag tag troop of dancers that can't even dance on the 50 yard line b/c we have a bleacher that is not an even 80 or 100 yards. Every time I see games at this place it just makes me so disgusted with the school and AD for allowing something so pathetic at such an incredible institution!!!!!!!!

Yep - Total joke, I'm getting about 30 sec of video every 5 mins. Just so typical of the GU athletic dept and anything that it gets associated with - Half A$$ and on the cheap!

Any of these good ideas around developing a supporting fan base for the Princeton game ever get any traction?

The team played for the Patriot Championship last year, which was a huge accomplishment and the mantra that we are all firmly behind this year is "Finish the Job" or something along those lines....
Anyway, I'm almost scared to ask but for all the good these guys have done and for the decent increase FB $$ support - did they get any small token of an improvement on the game day experience (Smoke, Inflatable Dog to Run Out Under, Small Cannon for TD's, Cheap Half-time Entertainment, Etc).
Improvement to the stadium seems a total lost cause, but maybe something smaller to make it sorta fun for the fans that might help put more butts in seats on a regular basis?
Regardless, Great start Hoyas - take it to Wagner, the Parents - Former Players and Fans are behind you and want to see the Patriot Trophy at Gtown like we know that you can deliver!

DFW excellent points in your Blog as usual, I am in full agreement with your focus on making this an opportunity for GU football to shine on a national stage and in my opinion more importantly in front of all of the Ivy and Patriot schools that think of GU FB as a second class citizen due to the lack of money and support that we have been awarded from the school and athletic department (ie facilities, scholarships, etc).
1. Regional Alumni. There are over 4,000 undergraduate alumni in the Garden State….Georgetown Clubs of Northern and Southern New Jersey, I'm talking to you.
Question: Is the GridIron Club going to take the lead and make them aware of this game and work / push to make this something special – perhaps something like a big tailgate that is co-sponsored by the GridIron Club and the local NY / NJ / PA alumni clubs?
2. Band & Cheerleaders. …the chance to show off Georgetown on national TV might be the ticket to get 25 or 30 of these folks on a bus outside McDonough at 2:00 Friday afternoon, along with cheerleaders and the costumed Jack The Bulldog to show the colors for TV and rally the fans making the trip… Transportation to and from the game costs money. Transportation to and from the game requires planning. The Gridiron Club should open up the discussion this summer with these groups and get some commitments and, where needed, a few donations, to get this moving.
Question: Is the New Director of FB Ops, Football Coaching Staff and Athletic Department also going to help make this something special? In my opinion, they all need to be heavily involved and they should all be very public in terms of announcing what they are all doing to make this a success.
3. Students. While we're at it with the bad and cheerleaders, is Hoya Blue ready for its curtain call? …. But with only a three hour road trip, what better way to get students (particularly freshmen) interested in Georgetown sports than a bus trip such as this? ….
Question: Is the GridIron Club, the New Director of FB Ops, the Football Coaching Staff and the Athletic Department going to push on HoyaBlue to do their part to make this something special? Again, in my opinion they all need to be heavily involved and they should all be very public in terms of announcing what they are all doing to make this a success.
4. National Alumni. … We need awareness by every Georgetown regional club in the US that they should host a game watching party for this one….
Question: Is the GridIron Club going to take the lead and make them aware of this game and work / push to make these events happen? It might also be a good oppty to ask each of these clubs to “pass the hat” at their particular event and send some money into the GridIron Club in support of the program. Maybe the GridIron Club can arrange to ship out some GU FB apparel / hats, etc to the clubs that agree to participate so that they can be given out as door gifts, or as part of a raffle or something. .
5. Basketball fans.
Question: DFW – Can you make the announcement of the game as prevalent on your BB site and Message Board as you have done for the FB site?

The attached donor list inclues a $5m grant from an Anonymous donor. Did someone really give this amount and get the MSF $5m of $7.5m in required donations - but still we have no progress towards a completed stadium? If so, I really really just don't know what to say!

Per usual, I am extremely disappointed that once again the Administration is taking the cheapest, slowest and most non-committal / non-supportive approach to the football program that is possible. The preparation and handling of this situation is basically no different than what they have done for the past 10 years when it comes to the MSF. It is a stick your head in the sand and hope / pretend like it's not happening or going to affect us approach. Quite honestly, it embarrassing and unfortunately, I don't expect anything to change anytime soon!
That said, I also don't think that as long as the PL continues their AI requirement, the lack of schollies at Gtown will eliminate our ability to compete in this league. PL schools will still be prohibited from recruiting the vast majority of the top FCS players / bottom FBS players that currently go to the MAC, SunBelt, CAA, SoCon, Etc. LH and Gate already gave nearly 100% aide through grants to FB players and the same is true of the top Ivy's. Georgetown will however, need to increase their financial support of football and make more grant / aide money available to the football team to remain competitive. Quite honestly, I don't think that this is a tremendous ask since we are ducking the costs that every other program in the country is incurring in schollies and by having & maintaining real facilities.
I just don't get how Gtown which is such an amazing institution with so much pride for itself and reputation to protect, continually fails at providing competitive funding and facilities for the athletics programs. It is a shame, it is embarrassing and as per usual the players, coaches and fans are essentially getting shafted by a lack of support by the Administration for the programs. I am still completely unable to comprehend how all of the schools in the PL or the lesser prestigious schools in other FCS conferences can afford schollies and facilities when Gtown can’t even come close! Mind boggling – it’s like we are a really, really economically poor family living in a really, really expensive neighborhood and hoping nobody notices or makes too much of a public comment or joke about it.
At the very least, I pray that the Administration will use some of the money that will be "saved" by not granting schollies and start finishing out the MSF. It does not need to be completed in a single year, but what about spending some money each year to build out a respectable facility? In the same light, if we can't afford 60 schollies over the next 4 years, how about taking a phased approach to that as well? Why completely discount schollies at Gtown for FB, but rather implement them over a much more gradual and affordable timeline? Until this year, we had not been good for 10 years, so if there is no other option or support, I would be willing to be bad for another 10 if I knew that we were actually completing the facilities and working towards a full boat of 60 schollies which would allow us to be a legitimate program that we could all be proud of. It would be better in my opinion than the what we have now or dropping down to a joke like the NEC or PFL.
Progress of any sort is much better in my opinion than the apathy and lack of progress that we have seen over the past 10 years!

Perhaps one day we will get really lucky and one of these guys might want to make a sizable donation which might get the MSF underway and named after them: William Bidwill (C'53), president and majority owner of the St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals since 1972; Carmen Policy (L'66), former president of the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns; Jim Schwartz (C'89), a four year letterman from 1985-88, is the current head coach of the Detroit Lions; Jerry Jones, Jr. (C'92), a letterman in 1988 and 1989, is vice president of the Dallas Cowboys. Or, the seventh commissioner of the NFL Paul Tagliabue (C'62).

Congratulations Hoyas, incredible season – you should hold your heads high with pride as you will in my opinion be known as the best Hoya football team in the modern football era. We had some great teams, seasons and players in the MAAC era, but to go 8-3 in the Patriot League and play for the league championship is a HUGE accomplishment. Be proud and in looking at all of the returning players and starters I have high expectations for another great season next year! You have brought renewed sense of hope and pride for everyone that follows this program, so much in fact that I will be making a good sized donation to the Grid Iron Club this year, going against a personal pledge that I made to myself about 2,000 days ago to stop funding the program until the School and AD get off their butts and show their support by completing their pledge to finish the MSF and give the team a respectable home to play in. This team taught me that I cannot take my frustration with Georgetown out on the players and the team that I love. I will give to the Grid Iron Club for the first time in a decade and I will continue to give to support these guys, but I will also say this – if we saw increased communication, plans, timelines and progress on a home for the boys my desire to give and the size of my donations would likely increase significantly year over year – even to the point that my wife might want to kill me! Regardless, Great Season – keep up the hard work in the off-season and get ready to win the Patriot next year – you have proven it is possible, a lot of our guys are back so surprise everyone and take it. HOYA SAXA!!!! BTW – My son played a game at Georgetown HS in Austin, TX this season, it made me so sad that their stadium made me truly envious and that our players (FB & Lax) that work so hard to earn the right to compete at the college level and for Gtown nonetheless, don't get the respect or support from the school to build them even a halfway respectable home! If you want to check it out, do a google search for Georgetown HS Stadium Austin, TX or try this link: www.texasbob.com/stadium/stadium.php?id=6

Actually, I believe he compiled a list based on many discussions that have occurred over time on that board. Regardless, I defy anyone to argue with his (their) positioning of Gtown in the worst of the worst! BTW - Seems to me that with this IAC talk and active fundraising, GridIron Club and Coach Kelly should be lobbying hard and having constant discussions with the AD about the inclusion of the MSF in the plans. Anyone know if this is happening?
