If Cliff gets the godfather offer that he seeks from somewhere else, good luck to him. Can't begrudge him or any other kid for doing so, especially if they're not a surefire NBA player. That being said, I am curious to see what the final number is vs. our offer. If we got blown out of the water and someone else massively overpaid, I can live with that. If we were haggling over 100-200K and had the opportunity to meet in the middle but chose not to, I'd be a little bit more annoyed. Time will tell. Many deals are falling apart over 100-200k. That is a lot of money for a lot of these guys that don't have much and aren't lined up for big paydays in the future. It's crazy to think but some of these guys will make more in college than they will in the pros or whatever job they end up in. Crazy times we are in right now. On the other hand I'd rather EC stick to his number and not be known to bend and overspend on a player just because. Otherwise where does it end? This is objectively bat S crazy and the numbers that are being offered/thrown around is absurd. I'm glad to hear there's a huge number out there and seemingly the stance is you're either in or you're out. I would be shocked if he got what he's asking for elsewhere, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by any of it anymore. This is not a Dickinson situation from last year where you waited on him to do anything else. It's pretty clear Ed learned from that last year and is going hard at other bigs still. You all that are worried about a sustainable program, you want kids that want to be here not *just because they threw a couple hundred more at them. Yeah the money is a big factor, but refusing to be finessed in this process is nothing but good in my opinion.

I find it hilarious that half of us are saying we need to win immediately in the portal and half are saying we need to develop the kids and let them play. Both are true to have long term success. But if anyone thinks there will be kids to develop if we don't see progress next year in terms of W's and L's, you're sorely mistaken. Half of you are "out" on Cooley after one year already (which is ridiculous). I tend to agree this is a must win year though. We as a fan base are out of patience, but we need some perspective. I'm actually pretty happy with the recruiting of Freshman that's occurred already, my only concern is that we dive further into irrelevance for us to keep it up in 25 which seemingly could be a big year.

With no hate or malice towards any of these guys intended, we should have 0 feelings of disappointment or questioning of the staff if anyone from a 9-23 team doesn't return. Quite frankly it will be more concerning if we have most of the same core starting/playing big minutes. Only one I would love to stick around is Fielder as I think he has some serious upside as a stretch 4 for us. All of the success Cooley had at PC was driven by players who had experience playing for him, I think the staff needs to retain as many of the new kids as possible bring in the youngsters & then fill in the rest with portal players. This isn't a knock-on Cooley but he isn't an innovative or system type coach, he's a motivator who needs time to get players on the same page. I mean you can absolutely make that argument about the coaching itself, and I agree that you need some sort of continuity to build a program, but our problem was mostly a talent one this year. Hands down. So in year two, he's building with the future with the frosh coming in, but he better be swinging for the fences in the portal and not guarantee anyone a spot. Period. We can nitpick the in game coaching if we're on par or higher than others talent wise; right now just get me dudes who can ball and have a motor.

Yes. Questioning of staff re: player retention of this 9-23 team? No. Totally fair; I don't think anyone would argue they did a good job of that this past year. Reserving judgement on any of it until we see how this offseason/next season plays out.

Cartwright will likely go with Thomas to get a true bench role. Hes currently listed as support staff rather than an assistant coach. Would love to see Cooley offer Chris Wright Cartwrights spot. Let him get his foot in the door if he so chooses at a low stress gig. And then when Battle retires in a year or two (as rumored) he and others can move up the chain if so deserved. I don't know specific responsibilities but Cartwright's job was listed as video/social media coordinator. No idea who controls what, or what account is controlled by athletics and what is controlled by the basketball program, but as a category, social media has to improve. My big fear though - they hire Murphy and keep both Battle and Blaney in the roles they are in. Hiring Murphy in a vacuum seems like a decent move, but you absolutely need an experienced recruiting assistant with DMV ties. That was Thomas and you just lost him, and neither Battle or Blaney fill that role. Ewing went without one and it was the obvious thing other than Ewing being terrible that killed the program - relying on Kirby commits from the South just did not work. We absolutely need DMV commits for the 2025 and 2026 classes. Well if a total of 3 spots are opening on staff, seems like you can bring in Murphy AND someone with DC ties. Best of all worlds. I also think Ed's mending of fences with the local programs is being undersold here as well. That alone is probably bigger than having a DMV guy just to have a DMV guy. How many of these guys that are touted to have DMV ties are really actually effective in that? Acting like that is the magic pill isn't really based in reality

If anyone was interested in seeing Caleb and Arcaden tomorrow in a great game, Sidwell plays Bullis in the MAC/IAC challenge event at 5pm at Georgetown Day. I have the doubleheader with Hoyas/DePaul penned in..and there will be a 3pm game at GDS as well (not sure who is playing) so triple header also doable… Note specifically to you, HoyasAreHungry: I converted your avatar into a t shirt, and it is a HUGE hit at games… Thank you for your creativity and artistic/electronic chops! Love to hear it! I may have to do the same!

I saw Caleb Williams play last night. Very fluid, good shot, plays with in the game. With 10-15 lbs of muscle, he will be very good! more importantly he'll break the curse of Josh Hart and allow our once great program to win again

Man it feels good to follow recruiting again! Welcome Drew! Big time pickup and early in the cycle too! About as late in the cycle as you can get for a class of 2023 recruit, but a good pickup nonetheless. Lol ok I walked into that one. *Now that he's a 23 a very good LATE pick up

It seems like he can hold his own in the BE, no he's probably not an all BE teamer, but I'm encouraged by his production against Wake and X. Someone who's willing to battle in the post and hustle for rebounds is exactly what we need. Like it or not we're going to go as far as our guards/wings will take us next year. Add another guard in Dunn and I'll be encouraged about our roster for next year, with very clear talent upgrades coming in 24 too

I think you absolutely have to go after Edwards hard regardless. I'd be disappointed if we play the "hold out for the higher rated guy to say no" game that used to drive me nuts about III's recruiting. We absolutely need to lock down an impact big guy.

Hoping the staff isn't fully filled out yet; certainly fine with the continuity from his existing staff, but would love to see another DMV guy and/or former player in the DOBO spot. Obviously nitpicking and from all accounts the locals are happy with the Cooley hire and in general will work to thaw alot of the relationships in the area as that's the kind of guy Cooley is; but it doesn't hurt to get some additional leverage

love it. This is the type of player we've struggled with defensively for years, glad we've got that type of versatility on our side now!
What I love most about the two commits is that they clearly play hard. You can't teach that dawg in em; give me kids who want to compete all day every day...oh and add that sweet of a jump shot we've got somethin!

Agree, but incoming commit Allen should likely still be on the list. This past season, I stayed off the recruiting board because the writing was on the wall, so I haven’t kept up with Allen. Why did he pick GU? Was GU his dream school growing up (regardless of the head coach)? Was there some personal connection to the staff? Why did he want to play for Pat and his disaster? Nickleberry. As soon as he lands somewhere else, I'm sure he'll be following in tow

Athletic big that has been coached up defensively, can finish at the rim and shot 79% from the FT line. Would be a great addition. Would be fine with this player to be named later in the Harris trade

Imagining you meant a picture of JT3 sitting in a drawer. Must have been a really big drawer Why do you think we haven't seen much of III around? (Ha!)

Hill needs to go as well or at least just concentrate on the other sports. We need new blood all the way through. He's been there way too long and I wouldn't say our strength program has been a errrrr strength? (ha) just want to say, HoyasAreHungry, that your new “Hope” avatar is the greatest… Spent way too long last night seeing if TShirts are available (yet) with it and so far no. I recall there was a similar one with III for a bit, right after Obama’s original. I do now know that “Cooley” as a name is Irish enough so that many many TShirts are available with it married to an Irish theme (shamrocks, pubs, Irish flag, etc.) I would say there are now a few less of those available — but that would be inaccurate (the “few” part”). Haha thanks! I thought it was appropriate. Maybe I can see if we can get that printed on a T somewhere. I actually still have the one they made of JT3 sitting in a drawer somewhere (sadly in a much smaller size than fits me currently but that's a whole other topic! haha).

To me, there isn't an RT without the administration, more to the point without JDG. The fact that Reed couldn't give a definitive answer on a staff member that won 2 BE games in two years is concerning. Cooley had no problem talking about the offers he put out to his assistants which tell us that Nickelberry, Crouch & Baldwin are gone, we'll know soon on RT, Howze, Hill & others I'll give the benefit of the doubt until the staff is complete Totally agree with your point about the main 3 assistants being gone, given what we know. I do think HIll is probably safe, given that officially his title is "Associate Athetics Director for Sports Performance" and he oversees all 29 sports, not just men's basketball. guhoyas.com/staff-directory/michael-hill/241I would hope Coach Cooley brings in his own guys for the positions now held by Ronny (although I don't know that the Chief of Staff role needs to get filled), Howze, Hamilton and Horne. Also nobody related to Patrick Ewing should be drawing a paycheck from Georgetown anymore, besides of course the $12M Patrick, Sr. is getting to go away. Hill needs to go as well or at least just concentrate on the other sports. We need new blood all the way through. He's been there way too long and I wouldn't say our strength program has been a errrrr strength? (ha)

Yeah you never know; with reports of the billionaire booster wanting to get back involved presumably with NIL, it evens the playing field. I'm not thrilled about having to go against Rick up to 3 x a year but hey a strong big east is what's important. Just think of a Nova, Uconn, St John's, Gtown semi final in the BE tourney Fri night at the Garden. Place will be electric!!
