I apologize for the SFS jab. I was pretty heated during that game. I was very close to throwing down with a few West Virginia fans. They made Marquette fans look very polite. The "Scoreboard" chant never felt so good tonight.

This post proves just who has actually played a sport before and who is from the SFS. Ewing wasn't out of line at all. That coach should have been thrown out of the game. I'm just glad JT3 didn't stand for it. Whoa there. The Hoya athlete of the year for 2006 went to the SFS. That said, for 90% of the SFS that's a correct assumption, I'd say. Probably Stacey Dales. She normally gives Gtown props, too bad not here. Maybe we should make her wrestle Rachel Nichols in a pit of mud.

Some player from an opposing squad dives at the legs of a team leader? Umm, no. The fact that Alexander probably didn't mean it, and probably didn't realize WV had possession is no excuse. Alexander could have easily hurt Wallace, ignorance doesn't register. Had that been St. Johns or 'Cuse in the mid 80's, that woulda been much uglier.
Way to go Patrick

to me it looked like Pat was just trying to get through, and Alexander was in his way. He was obviously Editeded, but nothing malicious. Same with Beilein. The refs did a poor job of controlling the situation. I dont think you can fault Pat for backing up Wallace, nor Beilein for saying something to Pat, but probably shouldn't have touched him. It looked like everything was all good after the game though. I'd rather have players who feel the need to protect each other than players who don't. I think everyone is being a little insane about this, but I guess thats half the fun of this board.

I must say, having been a river guide on The New, Gauley and Cheat rivers, I love WV. Unbelievably beautiful, the oldest mountains on the planet, friendly, down to earth people, just great times. I'f the bleep hits the fan, I'm headed for Albright...

They just showed it again on SC and Digger did say that approaching another team's player is the refs job, not the coach. Another analyst (a woman (excuse me, don't know her name)) chimes in with "Good job bee line." I saw this as well on ESPN. I thought the female analyst (name unknown) comments were dead wrong. You don touch an opposing player. End of story.

as someone else said, imagine if Bobby Knight had done this. ESPN would go crazy over it, shove it down our throats for 48 hours straight (or until TO says something controversial), and everbody would call for Knight to be fired.
Personally I dont think it was a big deal what PEjr or Beline did, but u just gotta love the double standard.

For those who think Beilein was seriously in the wrong, let's take the exact same situation (theoretically) and substitute some different names:
For Alexander, let's say it was Dikembe Mutombo instead. For Ewing Jr., let's say it was Derrick Coleman, former Syracuse star And for Beilein, assume it was JT-Pops
How do we think Pops would have handled such a situation as compared to what Beilein did?

Not only do you have to love the double standard; think about this; what would have happened if someone had grabbed one of Bobby Knight's players. I also wonder what would have happened if occured with John Thompson II on the Hoya bench and the player grabbed was Patrick Ewing Sr. For you younger people they use to refer to the Big East as the Middle East.

What the hell does Stacy Dales know about playing physical basketball or defending a teammate? She and others who play that "sport" have enough trouble making it over halfcourt, so please spare me the manure coming out of a woman in regards to this incident. I wish Digger would've thrown a bow right in her chops after she "pussified" the telecast. What a joke this is--and it's why it's not just a terrible idea to have women commenting on men's games, it's having someone with zero credibility commenting on a completely DIFFERENT SPORT. The way men and women play basketball is so far apart that having them comment on men's games is like having a Hot Dog vendor perform your open heart surgery. They know where the heart is, but they have no clue about anything else.
Tell Dales to stand on the sidelines and give us the meaningless drivel that is worthless to a telecast--which sums up Sideline reporting. ESPN wanted to be "hip" and "progressive". Well they are being ignorant. To comment on something, you have to have played it--and women's basketball is a completely different level and FAR BENEATH anything that Males play--be it grade school, open gym at a health club, etc..... it's a joke as is Dales or any other female commenting on men's game as if they "know" what is going on. Basketball ISN'T basketball--as many like to think--and all you have to do is watch both men and women's games and if you can't see difference--then may your eye problems be fixed.

Serisouly has everyone who commented here gone back and watched the video of what happened. Here's the way i see it after watchign the tape a hlaf dozen times.
Alexander was being dumb not dirty. He looks to be actually going after the ball. Why who knows. He's clearly jsut dumb.
Pat was 1. totally justified and 2. barely touched him. Very innocuous and it's been done thousnads of times by thousands of players. I did it a number of times in highschool ball. It wouldn't even be called a foul if it happened in the run of play.
Belien was the most out of line of anyone but even he wasn't that bad. His physical actions weren't that bad he also barely touched eweing. But it's the way he went about it. He was screaming at pat and ran at him angrly in a very threatening way. That is what's unacceptable.
I can't beleive this got blown out of proportion this much. WHne i first saw the title of this thread i only thought it was going to be a bout Belien attacking eweing but it started out about what eweing did wrong. Mind boggling.
Eweing got the T in an unrelated play several minutes later for mouthing off. Pretty unrelated if you ask me. That was foulish the bump not at all.
As far as WV goes sorry WV Hoya your state will always be the but of jokes and far too often they're justified.

Watched the replay many times --- Belein has no business 'engaging' an opposing player -- case closed. That is the unwritten rule throughout sports. The refs enact discipline, you do not try to discipline an opponent.
As far as PE Jr, I love the bump & the message it sent -- don't take uncessary cheap shots at our best players, especially when you're getting killed and are frustrated, and most especially on our home court.
