Stop it, Patrick Ewing stood up for a teammate. He didn't go over the line. He just did what basketball players do when their teammates get hassled. Alexander did'nt hassle nobody he was diving after the ball like any body else would.

Sorry for my profanity in my own last post. While throwing out "thug" for a shove is way over the line, the racist stuff really gets under my skin.

I tried not to go over to the WVU board, but couldn't help myself (you know, sort of like craning you nexk at a car crash site). It's only a few posters, so you can't denigrate the whole board, but there are some scary folks over there. They have the "thuggery" threads and the racist and homophobic jabs going. Makes your blood boil.
Comically, they actually have a thread complaining about the refs -- one guy pointed out that WVU lost by 18 and there was a 10-point disparity in free throws, so we are looking at an 8-point game or something to that effect. Wow. Yeah, that was a real close game there.

Alexander was not going for the ball. He had no chance of getting the ball. It was a stupid, dirty play. That is why Beilein was trying to talk to him when Patrick made sure he got the message. Then Alexander made a couple more chicken- plays from behind.

Yea WVU has two boards that are pretty popular. I hate how they never get their stuff into threads though, there are a million random posts always. Poorly moderated, obviously.
Anyway, its whatever. I wouldnt let that stuff change your opinion of the whole fanbase/school/state, even though I would bet its statistically more prevalent there than many other parts of the US. But whatever, life is too short and we know all the good that the Ewings have done.

Then Alexander made a couple more chicken- Edited plays from behind. Exactly. You can say a lot of things but you cannot say Alexander was just "doing something any player would." Beilein thought he was out of line. He puts his hands up and tells him to calm down and then starts talking to him. Then Beilein gets after PE Jr. in the "Hey listen kid, I'll handle this" sort of way I'd expect him to. Why is this so difficult to comprehend that a kid sliding back first into another player from behind on an impending backcourt violation is out of line? Beilein knew it himself and he was handling it when Ewing made the bump. In my mind Beilein was right twice: 1) Giving Alexander a talk 2) Giving Ewing a talk when he was already handling the situation

That's over the line.

All four entities, Ewing, Beilein, Alexander, and the refs, were wrong.
To Beilein's credit he did start to yell at Alexander, but then ruined that moment.

This post proves just who has actually played a sport before and who is from the SFS. Ewing wasn't out of line at all. That coach should have been thrown out of the game. I'm just glad JT3 didn't stand for it.

That's over the line. You know I really want to take offense to this and I completely understand people who do but all he did was touch Pat's back to get his attention and reprimand him. I chalk it up to this not being ballet class. If they T'd him and Ewing up there I wouldn't have had an issue but nobody deserves to be ejected for this.

They just showed it again on SC and Digger did say that approaching another team's player is the refs job, not the coach. Another analyst (a woman (excuse me, don't know her name)) chimes in with "Good job bee line."

He was sticking up for a teammate--there is NEVER a bad time for that. I would rather he wait for a chance to hammer Alexander--who is a fine/tough nosed player in his own right--on a drive, but it's basketball and it's over. I think Beilein's reaction was fine--he was trying to teach his player and was incensed that he gave up possession of ball with a silly play and PE JR bumped him--Beilein is a classy coach/good guy and Alexander plays a tough style of ball and respect him as a player--this type of crap happens time to time.
For someone to call this out--shows why I make absolute CRAP of the "Classy" angle. The old Hoyas used to throw fists and fight and nobody would be ejected--they'd just get after it. Today's world will see this as a "terrible incident"--it was nothing and I didn't lose respect for anyone involved--it's conference basketball and sometimes silly stuff happens--it's over. PE JR will have to take heat for this next year in Morgantown and rightfully so, but who cares? It's what makes CBB great and that is type of atmosphere that Championship teams thrive in.

Patrick was wrong and should have been gotten a "T" While I respect Beilein as a coach he definitly crossed over the line and should have been sent packing. Unless you are trying to break up an ongoing fight there is absolutly no excuse for a coach to put a finger on an oppossing player. As for the posts on the WVA threads get over it; it's West Virginia for god's sake. What do you expect?

I missed this live (I was reading a bedtime story with my 7 year-old, so sue me) but just saw the replay on College Gamenight.
My take: much ado about nothing.
Alexander was out of control, shouldn't have rolled up on JW, but did.
Beilein was already dealing with that with his player when PEJr brushed by and gave Alexander a bump. Likely an "I got your back" move in support of JW - not a punch or anything dangerous, but poor timing. Beilein goes out on the floor to tell PEJr (presumably) not to do that to his player.
It's pretty clear that at the end, neither coach felt it was a big deal, although Hilary Clinton now has another sports team to pretend to be a fan of when she campaigns in West Virginia.
Lots of needless overreaction in this thread (though thankfully nothing like the witty repartee on the WVU board linked above).
