Get Sorber a rebound for his first double double! Had one last game - believe it or not!

This team will get much better, just have to eliminate some silly mistakes. There is no questioning the effort.

Feel like I’m taking crazy pills having read some of the debate about Sorber earlier this week. Kid is more than legit. If you can’t see that, can’t help you. LFG!!!! PTSD from all the bums that walked through the door before this season. Some people have no clue what good basketball players look like.

Peavy has been doing a ton of on floor coaching to Mack and Epps. Both of them need it and hopefully it sinks in. Mack in high school showed he could learn and change his game quite a bit (he moved high schools a bit).

Love that our bigs can sink those open 3s, such an asset. Nice shot Sorber This really can change things up and create a lot of mis-matches. Fielder's outside shooting is rather good as well when he is set. Three bigs with 3s in their toolbelt. This could be interesting. It will open the lane for Epps drives when the big's defender cannot sag. Epps should thrive with that.

Hoyas about to win a game because of their defense. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Much of this is Peavy, Burks, and freshmen. It is great to see!

If Epps can stay at 11 FGA, the Hoyas can do quite well on the offensive flow. The Hoyas can do well, and he shouldn't feel as if he has to carry the team on his back. Cooley has a deep bench, so this team can be quite balanced on the floor.

It will open the lane for Epps drives when the big's defender cannot sag. Epps should thrive with that. I think Mack and Peavy will benefit more as both are more explosive than Epps and can also kick to open wings if coverage collapses to the middle and leave a wing open. Epps still has the same problems he had last year it seems.

Strong effort on the defensive end the second half. But the offense will have to be better to beat Notre Dame next weekend. We need to get a bit more out of Mack. Sorber can’t carry us against teams with comparable size.
Still good to see us execute down the stretch and not let them get it down to a one possession game where a few lucky bounces could turn into a bad loss as we’ve seen in prior years.

Gritty win for a young team (among the youngest in the nation if I recall the stat from the game. This team has more talent than last year that is also better diffused throughout the roster. They're not world beaters, but they can be dangerous.
- I've seen no indication they can shoot from range with any reliability/consistency. Unless something changes, that might be the biggest hurdle. - There are A LOT of silly turnovers (leaving feet without an idea of who to pass to, miscommunications, etc.) Maybe that's remedied over time but it could be problematic if it leads to ugly non-conference losses. -I think this is going to be a strong defensive team. Plenty of long, disruptive players. I suspect it has to do with Peavy's leadership role, but it looks to me like they take pride in their defense. -I missed the start of this game but from what I saw of this and the last game there is a slight "snake-bitten" aspect re: three-point defense. I didn't noticed an egregious amount of open threes being allowed, just a lot of contested shots going in. -Sorber is already very good. Excited to see what he develops into. I'm pleasantly surprised by Julius already, there's definitely something there.
They have a great foundation of young talent and I think some grit among the senior leaders which hopefully stays with the young guys.

This year I really hope Peavy can instill his mindset and play (looks the same if not better than he was at TCU and he was a monster at TCU) into Mulready. Peavy has athleticism, insanely high ball IQ, and plays with active hands (arms out and up) and feet. Mulready's build and solid ball IQ already would help the Hoyas in the future. I'm already thinking beyond this year and seeing the solid change Peavy has made and moving forward that type of player needs to be a core piece of Hoya teams. Better would be every player adopts and mimics this.

Improvement over the first game but nowhere near where we need to be to compete against even mid majors. It feels good knowing Sorber raises the floor by just being able to dominate terrible opponents. Another game where Epps played under control which is a good sign. Some bad passes but when he realized he was off he didn't keep chucking. The defense was better than the first game but the numbers are misleading. I don't feel great about the defense still. It just so happens that Fairfield is too small and unathletic to make us pay. Mack is going to have to play much better if we want to be respectable. Was good to see McKenna get some run. If any of the non big freshman are going to crack the rotation I would imagine it will be him. Peavy looked more like what I thought his offense would look like. What he brings on defense more than makes up for any offensive lapses. I was really hoping to feel much better after this game but I just don't find myself there yet. Next weekend will finally give us a good test of where we are at. In the meantime we can be thankful that we aren't the Big East teams that already have really bad losses.

The spacing will open up and the 3 pt shot will be there for the taking. Also, Cooley grabbing guys with length will prove vital and being disruptive in the passing lanes, hopefully they don't gamble too much and get exposed by the back door plays with their over-pursuit.

Again wasn’t pretty but we’ve yet to lose and let the conference down like some others have! Defense better than game one but still very much a work in progress. Keep winning ball games, excited to be at the game next week for our first major test. Go Hoyas !

Obviously the threes. Trusting EC & staff will figure that out. Loved seeing some bench play. Encouraged by the play of McKenna and Mulready. Liked how EC used first time out to sit the starters and put in the bench. Calmed things down, exerted some defense. Really excited that our paint points are way up and our paint defense is strong. AND that we had 15 point off of turnovers. The improvement from 1st half to 2nd half -- unlike last year, EC has the horses to step it up and bring the pressure. Kinda like past Hoya teams. TBS, we turned the ball over way too much, though it did seem that many or most of those came from communication mishaps. Had flashbacks from last year of Epps forcing the action and forcing up shots -- didn't like it. Thought Epps and Mackey played subpar games. Will take some time before they find their groove. Burks was frustrated and fouled out (I think) but I definitely like his smarts and athleticism. Gotta state the obvious: Sorber is a beast.
Also liked the announcers, esp. the color commentator. Knew his stuff and made good points.
Wasn't happy that they didn't show the 1984 team and ceremony. Anyone know where to see that?
All in all, a better game but full of mistakes that a young team still getting used to each other makes. Definitely will take it as we improve to 2-0 (remember last year this time we were 1-1 after the loss to freaking Holy Cross?) and have a week to prep for ND.
Really like this team. Enjoy the week -- see you next Saturday!

Dave Leitao was an excellent listen. I wish they would insert the commentators graphic once in a while during these telecast. Good call by you.

Interestingly, Mulready had 11 minutes compared to Curtis' 6.

By the metrics, this was the 2nd best defensive game in the Cooley era. Ironically the only one better was last year’s opener vs LeMoyne (who was playing their first D1 game ever).
It still isn’t a finished product, but the trend is going the right way for sure…
