Fielder out with illness will give the freshman more chance to shine against a small team.

Fairfield being my other alma mater, I can tell you this team is not what they were last year, as essentially the whole roster has turned over, with only 2 main guys back from last year's 24-win team. They were crushed by almost 40 at URI on Monday night, and played 12(!) guys, as Coach Casey is trying to figure out how to put the new pieces together. Last year they were Top 50 in the country in 3pt shooting, but they opened vs URI 4-29 from deep, as their top 3 shooters from last year are not on the roster. This year, their top player is 5'8" guard Deon Perry, a local kid from Baltimore, who transferred from Loyola MD, and who was the Patriot League's leading scorer last year. His debut was forgettable, as he had two points on 0-6 shooting (0-5 from 3), but last year he was 35% from deep on 8 attempts a game. I shudder to say, he certainly fits the mold of undersized local guard who has tortured us in the past at Cap One. Other than that I am honestly not sure what to make of this roster. There isn't a ton of size or rim protection. Stylistically, a faster tempo game is likely. Coupled with the 1984 team celebration, I'd be surprised if Fairfield is able to stay within 15-20 points here, that is unless Perry pulls off the small guard career game we have seen over the years... So we can expect them to hit 7 of their first 8 treys. Of course they will.

I mean let's be honest anyone with a pulse in the backcourt can score against us.

Is it an intentional strategy to not guard 3's? Some sort of innovative avant garde zig where they zag thing? Seems like the wrong approach but I don't get paid $4 million to coach basketball.

The lazy in bounds defense to a three pointer. I’m getting flashbacks…
But I do like much of Mulready, Julius has confidence but not the skill to actually do the behind the back drive yet lol

Our defensive lapses continue to be head scratching, but man, it would help if our opponents would miss occasionally…

There are certainly rough moments but certainly not nearly as disheartening to watch as other past teams. A lot of it feels like experience and just being on the same page.

Flow and motion much better. Ball moving better. Need to hit our shots. Defense still needs work.

Agree, lots of potential on this team and will take a little time to sort it out.

I'm perhaps in the minority, but Mack reminds me of Chris Wright (attack mode).

Cooley should continue to reward that bench with minutes and mixing them in with the starters...Mulready, McKenna and C Williams all came to play...these are the games where they should get minutes

Please dont give ball handlers 3 feet space. Get on them! making it too easy to run their sets. PLAY DEFENSE!!

Agree, lots of potential on this team and will take a little time to sort it out. A much heightened semblance of cohesion (lack of familiarity notwithstanding) - and unselfish play for the most part (the most glaring exception Epps's predictable corner 3 that failed to drop).

Epps should be pulled...he looks awful...this isn't last year where we have no options...bad play should equal a sit on the bench...we have depth
